  1. At home in my basement where my office area is, the G2 will hang on to LTE around -130 and I get 2-3 Mbps down, 1-2 up with ping in the 100-150ms range. If it gets much lower it will drop to evdo. Band 4 is available here, but I don't know what the channel size is. I've only seen two reports of it from LTE discovery in the log. I didn't mean the wider channel makes for a stronger signal, just that the signal will be usable and the phone holds on to it at lower signal levels. I don't even know if that's true, it just seems that way from my experience. It could be some other factor which is what I was asking about.

Verizon's band 4 rollout seems to be very deliberate and targeted in their launched cities. If I go into the heavily trafficked areas of Orlando I can usually find band 4 pretty regularly on my girlfriends device, but outside of those areas it seems very hit or miss. Makes me appreciate Sprint's rollout more and more.

I shouldn't assume you are using Verizon as well but it seems to fit what I've observed.

  2. I really don't know where to put this, but I've been hearing about this Sprint deal on the radio all day. It appears it's a special pricing deal for Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul customers. $50 for unlimited everything. No framily stuff, just $50. Check it out

If that was available in Florida I would snatch that up in an instant.

  3. Oh ok I forgot about the 4.3 method. Anyway I don't think it's possible to flash an older ruu because the newer bootloader from 4.3 won't be compatible with the older ruu which is why it failed. If you were already s-off then it's probably possible though. Rooting and getting s-off might be your only option but without that it's a definite no go.

Alright so s-off will be tomorrow's adventure then! Thanks for the help.

  4. I am getting a little bit confused, if you are not rooted aren't you already on jellybean?

I am on Jellybean, but 4.3. I updated with one of the last ruu months ago just to check out Sense 5. I've rooted and tried flashing a few 4.1.1 Roms without much luck. It has been forever since I have rooted and flashed Roms to an HTC device so I'm not very up to date with S-off or anything additional that may be necessary. I guess you could say the Nexus has spoiled me some.

I don't recall the ruu throwing a specific error. It just said "failed" and rebooted the phone.

  5. What are you trying to accomplish anyway?

Just trying test on a 4.0 or 4.1 android device for an application.

  6. Are you rooted?  As a reminder to run an ruu your boatloader will have to be locked or it will fail.  If you are s-off though you can run it using fastboot commands.

No I'm not rooted.  I've tried a few different ruu's now so I guess rooting and flashing via fastboot will be the way to go?

  7. Google play won't let me install it on the tablet, it says your device isn't compatible with this version. I haven't had a chance to see if I can side load it or not.

Is your Galaxy Tab stock?  I haven't found what may be the problem yet, but now I am particularly curious because I just noticed that one of my reviews from early this month was made from a Galaxy Tab.

  8. Possible to get the bands on the 310410 Mcc? I can send you the method of determining B17 DAS, B17 sites, B4, and B2 by the GCI. Not sure what band 5 has unfortunately.

I think I account for all those except for B17 DAS and Band 5, but please go ahead and send it to me. I can make any changes or additions necessary.

  9. I've been using the pro version of this app for about a week and I have to say I'm impressed. I really like the LTE log feature. I was wondering something though, is there any particular reason it isn't compatible with my galaxy tab 3?

    Thanks glad you like it!

Hmmm, I wasn't aware of any particular incompatibilities with the GT3, but now that you mention it I think I recall that we had an issue sometime ago with the Nexus 7 because the tablet didn't support the stock android tabs we were using (seriously). I thought we resolved it at the time but it may have popped up again-- I'll have a look into it and see if its a simple fix or not.

  10. I finally got the update, but there us trouble in paradise, unfortunately.

I can't seem to get the map to work properly. It won't show the tower on the map, even when on 3G. Is this supposed to work like the last version did?

I did get the logger to work, even if I don't fully understand all of the information (remember, I came from iPhone so I never had access to this much info).

Also, some B41 connections are still showing up as B25 connections on my G3. There is no rhyme or rhythm to this. All of the B41 connections in my market (Jax) are Clearwire that I'm aware of. Some sites will show B41 and some will show B25, despite being a confirmed B41 connection via the engineering screen.

Thanks for you time and effort on this app; I upgraded to the Pro version. :)

There is a menu option in the map tab you need to enable this time around.  That fragment of the code has been extensively worked over.  Wanted to have users enable it manually because the logic is very intense in that part of the app and it could cause problems if it encountered something I hadn't expected. That part is really a public beta, but most of the feedback I get about it seems to be good.

I just saw the B41 bug myself and and have already rolled out the fix.  Basically the logger works so quickly in the background that sometimes the PLMN doesn't have time to populate correctly and that is what is causing the errors.  I had code in place for the app to discard invalid logs and recreate them a fraction of a second later when the PLMN had time to catch up, but I accidentally put it in a place where the code never ran (whoops).

    You'll get the update shortly.

Thanks for the support.  Feel free to let me know anytime how I can improve it.  Have more planned upgrades once I catch up on the small bugs that have popped up.

  11. I got my Wi-Fi calling/texting problem worked out. Several profile/prl/reboots/power cycles later. Has anyone noticed when sending a Wi-Fi text that the Wi-Fi calling icon briefly flashes? I wonder if sms actually goes out through Wi-Fi, or if it quickly connects to cellular to send?

Hmm let's find out. Try turning on airplane mode, then enable WiFi and try to send a text.

  12. Yup. It's perfect.

Btw: I'm still stuck on v3.6.1. It will not let me update.

Everyone should have the update before the end of today. If you don't, let me know.

  13. Do any of you guys have any idea why my G3 is connected to B41 but LTE Discovery and Signal Check is reporting the connection as B25? The engineering screen clearly states it's a B41 connection.

I posted this in the G3 thread as well.

I mean to ask before... Is LTE Discovery displaying correctly on the QHD screen?

    LG G3

Are you running ART or Dalvik runtime?

Not sure. Lol. I'm running the stock LG G3 rom. I came back from iOS so I'm a little lost. Haha

And coming from iOS where the question asked would be, "is there an app for that." Not are you running ART or Dalvik runtime...I have no idea what that means LOL

*Cough cough* I think I can assist here. He's on Dalvik lol.

  14. Well at work I saw this popup a few times throughout the day, didn't stay on it long as it went back to B25.

Also saw my phone was connected to B41 when I woke up this morning but it was at about -128 so I was lucky enough to get a screenshot, but walking to work I was connected to B41 for most of my trip not bad. I love having a Triband phone, especially a performer like the Nexus 5. And for some reason Signal Check pro doesn't like showing a 1x connection when on LTE even though I have voice etc, it's weird.

Simply put that would be because your phone doesn't actually connect to voice when you are on LTE.  When your phone receives a call it drops down to 1x to accept it, but it doesn't maintain the voice signal prior to that (unless you are not on LTE of course).  All tri-band LTE phones on Sprint behave like this.

Do you run carnival rides?  Austin Powers fears you.

I knew you would post this.  I think this came up last time I asked about a phone being too large lol.

    LG G3

Anyone feel like the G3 is too big? Personally from what I have seen of the phone, I love the specs and the UI is very much improved.  Just don't know if I could deal with the size.

  15. I heard this on the radio this morning. AJ, I post this YouTube video in honor to you for all the painful posts you endure and mock.

I present to you, Word Crimes by Weird Al...

We should start posting this clip in response to all the English butchering that occurs around our forums.

    That was great lol.

  16. Is there anyway to see if I am in a 5*5 or 3*3 zone in regards to LTE on the nexus 5?

Yes and no. On the EARFCN card if you hit the check button (or manually open your debug screen) you can view your downlink and uplink channels and plug them onto the frequency calculator.

If the center download frequency is not 866.3 then it is very likely you are on a 3*3 channel. Unfortunately there isn't anyway to automate this process on non-HTC devices since I can't access those EARFCN values.

I'm sure this is not the way you want to do this, but it will have to do until those API's open up to developers.
