  1. It pushed this morning. These are going to be my running notes so I don't forget anything. I'll be editing the post as I find more details. -I did nothing heroic to get this to happen. I waited for the push, I did NOT factory reset the phone. -I took out open office and cleared the application cache to make 3.9GB available on the device before install. -Google play services said it needed an update to run properly. It was a real bear to get updated. I crashed out the phone three times (such that it rebooted) trying to force it to update because it looked like it wasn't. When I finally left it alone, it updated fine - but with no indications it was doing so. Be patient with this one. Just walk away. -Service mode doesn't seem to require the "sprint" password any more. It is still accessed by ##DEBUG# from the dialer. That's nice. LTE Engineering screen still provides serving CELL id and Band. -Signal check pro now gives neighbor cell data -My Alpine radio / Pandora interface doesn't work yet. I have to use Bluetooth device mode. No song like / dislike capability until I get that back - maybe with an Alpine app update? -I like the improvement to calendar that added screen width real-estate by moving view settings to the hamburger icon. -I like it EXCEPT "tasks" are gone and are deleted from my PC side google calendar as well. I was hiding some 4 digit padlock lock codes there so I wouldn't have to remember them. DOH! -It appears to have reinstalled and reenabled a lot of the bloat I had taken out or disabled. I'll be cleaning that up again to get my storage space back. -It's ugly but tolerable so far. -Eats battery. Allows too many apps to start in the background. Killed apps don't stay killed. I can't clear as much memory by killing apps as I could before.
  2. Just as a status update, lollipop has not pushed to my phone yet. I have not done anything to either encourage or prevent it. I'm a bit ambivalent about it anyhow. Not too thrilled with the color scheme they chose. Anyone have any good or bad experiences worth posting yet? Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  3. Because that's the "modern" artistic way. Pretty is preferred over functional. The design people have way too much influence these days and they're wrecking most of the things they touch. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  4. If I have to do a reset to get it, I don't care if I ever get it. I'll report if it ever downloads without doing a factory reset. I have a tough time believing that is a prerequisite. There are no other reports of that necessity. I think the timing was just a coincidence.
  5. So at least someone has seen it in the wild if they built a ROM for it. Encouraging. Does anyone know the rhyme or reason? Do they go by market size, serial number or totally random?
  6. They caught a single-band version. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint/general/original-galaxy-s4-update-zip-od2-t3105607 I'm watching the threads for a tri-band version to get posted.
  7. FYI http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-sprint/general/original-galaxy-s4-update-zip-od2-t3105607 Single band only. Still waiting on a triband version to be captured.
  8. Talked to a friend this weekend that said a coworker with a GS4T was offered it last round but she had troubles getting it to install. No word if she has seen it on this round yet. If it rolls in serial order, then I'll be waiting a week or two.
  9. Last I heard it got pulled with a new target date of mid-late June. Still no idea what the problem was. Still haven't heard of anyone that actually got it for any length of time. I'm beginning to wonder if they ever really did release it or if the whole thing was a data entry error.
  10. Update the prl. (Preferred roaming list) Another thing to try is to shut off roaming, restart the phone, toggle roaming back on, and restart the phone again. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  11. Gs4 doesn't like power+ volume down Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  12. I can't say that I'm in such a hurry to get it if they broke silent / vibrating notifications. We'll see some version of 5.0 first - LONG before we see 5.1 - if ever. http://www.androidpit.com/android-5-1-lollipop-silent-mode I swear, they should spend more time FIXING stuff instead of breaking things. Google maps PC and PHONE and KML's on Earth mobile are all prime examples. Put the smart people back in charge of interface and design. The chimps they have in there now are annoying and breaking EVERYTHING.
  13. Looks like they walked it back the very next day. I cut and pasted what was there into the Sprint forums. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  14. Guarantee there will be bugs. Firmware and prl updates are being denied so that indicates either traffic or server reserves. Put your phone in wifi and on charge overnight. It should download sometime in the next few weeks. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  15. http://www.techtimes.com/articles/45999/20150413/samsung-galaxy-smartphone-android-5-0-lollipop-update-roundup-s5-s4-s3-alpha-active-and-mini.htm Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  16. All things being equal, in my experience, obstructions is one of the biggest factors. I'm far enough out in the boonies that my prime towers are all high boomers. Effective distance works out on a boomer to roughly 6mi, 8mi, 10mi line of sight outdoors. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  17. Should be higher than that if you're line of sight and 1/4 mile. On a set of new Samsung towers in SE Omaha, I get 99-103 outdoors line of sight at up to 6 miles. Indoor and one exterior wall and I drop to 105-115 and periodic signal loss at those distances. For one that I'm centered on between sectors, I struggle to get those numbers at a mile. Fairly sure two of the three are not at full power yet, maybe even the third. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  18. Possible. Go outside and see if you can use the house as blocking interference to determine a direction you get a stable signal from. Are you a premier sponsor? You can trade info in the premier forums. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  19. The line is that the carriers want their customers to be happy by keeping some control over the process but the result rarely works out in the USA. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  20. Might easily explain the delay. It's possible someone said "screw that noise", scrapped the 5.0 progress and started over on 5.1 Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  21. Samsung isn't all of the problem. Sprint has to take some of the blame. If it was all on Samsung, you could download direct from the Samsung site. Have you ever been able to download a stock Sprint update direct from Samsung or Motorola? Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  22. Tried that before. Now I'm at "I'll believe it when I see it and not a moment before." There's no money in support after the sale. Planned obsolescence drives turnover and new sales. Everyone wants to be Apple and Microsoft. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  23. At some point they have to commit to a version and actually get it done and released. Google will be three revisions ahead before Sprint releases one. They abandoned the Moto photon after initially promising revisions two years back. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
  24. ...and 4.4.4 was *supposed* to release in November. Here it is 5 months later and no update for 4.4.4, no update for 5.anything. I'm not going to get too excited about an update until there is more than an rdf. If every revision to 5 means they stop and start over again, then we'll *never* see an update. Not that it seems to matter. The only nice thing would be to see a massive reduction in bloatware and more *user* control of the phone instead of Google control.
  25. No. Last I heard, 4.4.4 would release first and then 5.x would release by mid summer. Sent from my SPH-L720T using Tapatalk
