My unlocked S20 is now connecting to T-Mobile Bands by default. Still says 5G but account to the debug screen I am not connect to any NR signal. So now I actually don't have 5G at home since before I could connect to a NR41 signal,.

Not even connecting to B71, I am currently using CA with 66, 2 and 12.

Same here, except I never had n41 here in the Bronx. My LTE speeds were 5-40mbs now it's sub 5mbs slow ass "5G" and no B or N 71

Has anyone with a 5G phone found that speeds are faster when they turn off 5G. Here is a speed test from the same location, time, and server. LTE was blazing fast and 5G was slow and very unstable.

I have a feeling this happens when EN-DC does not run. That's my best guess since NR is only 40Mhz vs 60 on LTE, but when combined, NR does exhibit better peak and overall speeds.

AT&T N260, not to shabby. I wonder if this is the faster test on an S20 series so far... I'll post more on this in the AT&T thread later. 5e9ff2a623b4dc40e9bd6ac27b77a1f9.jpg

    Nice!

That definitely beats my 600mbs on Sprint..

    How's the coverage?

Done, all three are exactly the same from what I can tell, which is basically an instant unlock( I can record and post later if you like, LOL). The only issue I can think of is finding the exact spot when the screen is totally off.  This was the reason why I started using the always on display so that it shows the correct spot when AOD is active.  When the screen is off, just being off by a little could cause a delay or it not work at all.  Even running my test just now, just by coincidence I had a slight issue with the note 10 and the s20 and had to do it a second time because I didn't quite had it lined up right while AOD is off.

Thx for the comparison, for me it could have simply been the fact that when I owned the S10 it was still in it's infancy (got rid of it months after purchase) and subsequent updates helped it's performance.

Needless to say, I've been super impressed with GS20U's FP consistently and performance. The only thing they could have done better is possibly made the FP area larger, aside from that, been pretty happy with it.

As I sit here at my desk I have an s10+, note 10+ and s20 ultra in front of me and I can't see any difference in how fast any of them unlocks using the fingerprint scanner.  All three are very responsive.  But also keep in mind that the performance of the fp sensor is directly related to the moisture level of your finger tip.  So that may be why we all get different performance results. If your fingertip is super dry, you'll have problems.

Let the device screen time-out then use the FP while the screen is off, see if that makes any difference.

No but it's definitely improved over the one in the S10, probably just software though.

Fingerprint is quite a bit better than the last one. I think its been optimized much better especially right after waking the device.  S10 was almost always slow to wake, in turn, causing the FP scanner to feel less reliable and slower.

So making my way back up to work this Tuesday and was at mt Vernon east it showed 5G in the icon but went into the engineering screen was only connected to LTE! So some icon signal manipulation at play there. I'll check in other towns as I pass by though.

Keep in mind, data needs to be active, when idle it might not register valid current connection.

So while running speed test jump to the engineering screens.

    Sweet! Thanks for that!

In the BX where there is a 3rd carrier for band 41, it's on 10mhz wide. Not even 15mhz. Checked earlier from the debug screen.

Yup it is indeed 10Mhz my mistake. So makes me wonder what they have up in Westchester.

  9. Just here to say holy bejesus!!! this phone is awesome! Finally got mine today! I know I'm late to the party. Pre-ordered on the 21st through Best buy, but they obviously couldn't release it till today.

Also finally able to activate my Galaxy watch 2's VoLTE along with it(couldn't do it with LG V50 for whatever reason)

First day back to work and on the metro to Westchester. Mt Vernon east area has 5G. That surprised me. Should update my info but on the s20 ultra.

OH WOW that does surprise me, considering i have not even seen a full 60Mhz of B41 spectrum(I believe the 3rd carrier is still 15Mhz) north of 170st..

Can you get a screen shot of the engineering screen(s)+SCP

    Good luck with that.                  🤣

States that contribute the most to GDP just so happen to basically help subsidize cell service advancement to the rest of the country for the most part. Without the high concentration of customers from places like CA & NY, i cannot see them being able to offer any type of meaningful service in places that barely crack a million POPs.

In the Columbus OH market Sprint has more macro sites than T-Mobile. T-Mobile has just a handful of small cells versus hundreds for Sprint. T-Mobile likely has many more indoor sites. T-Mobile does test better on root metrics, likely do to better backhaul.

    Exactly,

Here in NYC I believe Sprint probably has equal or more Macros+SC sites  than any of its rivals.

But a lack of backhaul did Sprint no favors.

5G is underperforming, and is underbaked both on the handset and the network side. The new Qualcomm chipset X60 is finally a chipset worth incorporating on the handset side.

If you saw how well Sprint 5G performs on current handsets you would not say that, no overheating, good battery life and solid network performance, in my opinion considering how little funding Sprint has gotten, it's very impressive how well they are performing from handset and network standpoint.

But alas; "Sprint sucks" is the mantra everyone has adopted and higher ups are good with that.  Just makes this merger thing that much easier to make happen if as many people as possible believe that.
