I noticed today that N71 is down from 10x10mhz to 5x5mhz.
Man, that was the only really nice thing in some areas around me having 10x10 N71. Now my N71 speeds went from 20-30mbs, to 3-6mbs..
This merger has been a total bummer so far.

It's not due to backhaul or anything like that. mmWave is sharing the same backhaul as n41.
The reason why is because current 5G chipsets aren't able to make the most out of mmWave spectrum. n261 in NYC is currently split into two 50MHz carriers that are aggregated together so technically 100MHz of spectrum. However, it operates in 2x2MIMO and 64QAM. This is in comparison to n41 which operates in 4x4MIMO and 256QAM. It's a lot more spectrally efficient than the current mmWave deployment and as a result, you get much higher speeds.
The highest speed I've been able to achieve on N261 with a strong signal is around 400mbs. Assuming 100mhz even on 2x2 should be able hit well over 800mbs. Definitely not related to network traffic since barely anyone was in the street.
Buddies Verizon phone on mmwave typically hits 500mbs during day and 1gb+ late night with same device.

I biked around midtown east and Murray Hill today. Noticed a lot more N261 then N41. Also N261 was way slower then when I connected to N41. N41 also wasn't stand alone in the few sites I connected. Here is my fasted speed test with N41. My fasted N261 test was 330Mbps but it also would sometimes only pull ~10Mbps Download and then 50Mbps upload.

Nice find. but yes, pretty much what Ive found when connected to N261, I'm assuming it's a backhaul limitation. The whole mmwave deployment from T-Mobile definitely seemed like a stopgap solution to keep V and ATT at Bay marketing wise. Also, I wonder what happened to that 60mhz N41 site Milan found. Seems all sites I've found are 40mhz.

Finally connected to some N41 in midtown (28th st indoors). Speeds were between 200mbs and 300mbs still using 40mhz of N41+B2+B71
Funny enough ground level is N261, speeds were similar to N41.

I'm kinda wondering the same thing. And marketing this on Sprint's website as a 5G phone makes no sense as Sprint's 5G network no longer exists. Am I missing something?
Those devices will default to TMobile (which of course means N71/N41 for 5G)at home first then roam on Sprint where Tmobile isn't available.

I wonder if these will be activated as T-Mobile phones and have absolutely no access to the Sprint network?
I thought about this, and it would make sense to have these default to T-Mobile as home first then roam on Sprint when necessary. This coincides nicely with T-Mobile's announcement of adding another million Sprint users to T-Mobile's network as default.

When will we get more 5G phones to buy from Sprint instead of just Galaxy S20?
The V60 is coming in the next week or so.

Thanks. I tried using the Samsung App to force N41,not sure if that will work with 5G, but it appears Sprint 5G might be blocked now.
Most n41 have been moved to TMobile, so not blocked, just non-existent.

Samsung bandwidth selection app still works?
Yes indeed, it resolved my issue.

Btw new update is out! With security finally updated!
Also, camera improvements, autofocus is much better now, on top of that, a couple of tweaks within the camera app.
Very nice update.

Using the Samsung been selected application. You go into the more network settings. Tap on the Sprint active Sim in the next menu. Tap the Advance menu. In the Wi-Fi calling preferences you tap and change it from over mobile network to Wi-Fi calling priority.
My man! Thank you!

Anybody know how to force Wifi calling on gs20? Looks like TMobile prioritizes VoLTE and quality is terrible in my area. Man, I don't know if I could wait for TMobile to get their act together here.
Miss Sprint big-time. 😑

Good site density?

Great site density, alot of spectrum online and very well optimized. Tmobile is quite a bit worse in the places I normally visit.

I'm new York you would be better off with Verizon over at&t. Vzw has 20x20 on both 66 and 2. Att is all 10x10 on each band..att B2 is 10x10+5x5. TMO will be able to go from 10x10 B2 to 20x20 when they can use sprints spectrum.
Well see how this plays out, but to be honest with you Sprint was probably one of the best option(s) here in NY.

I'm not really feeling this. When Sprint actually launched 5G, the network it was like a few blocks of a substantial geographic city block and connected neighborhoods. When T-Mobile launches it's literally a "block"!.
This is just to puff there chest a bit.
Also the discrepancy with regard to where they have a 20 megahertz wideband and a 15 wide band because that's the same where I am. I lost 5 megahertz over the weekend believe I noticed. Tmobile is burdened here. Its fine on the street for n71 10 mhz as it stands, but every other LTE only device its kind of trash.
I hear you. It's unimpressive to say the least. Also the fact that Sprint had such a solid deployment here in NY does not help TMobile's case. The thing that scares me the most is what will happen once everybody heads back to work in the city.
TMobile's hodgepodge spectrum deployment is messy and super inconsistent. I was hitting 2mb-100mbs with very few folks walking the streets. And n71 was very sparse. I will give them till the end of the summer, if they don't show real improvement I will just switch to ATT.

Well, TMobile N41 is indeed live! Seems deployment is thin, I connected to two sites in lower east side. I kept bouncing between n261 and N41, definitely a look into what's in store for the future of TMobile..
Aside from that, n41 from this site(s) were 40mhz, B41 was still 3xCA in the area with same EARFCN as expected.
Here are some screen caps..

I'm assuming you're going to do this anyway. But could you for switch between Sprint native and T-Mobile native when you're down there to see what they may have taken offline to increase Spectrum to 60.
Will do..

I will head downtown to see if I have any luck connecting to this..
Spectacular speeds! And 60mhz n41 which is awesome.

Thanks for the update. Painful to hear. Was hoping to hear progress has been made. Just have to give it time... Hope it gets better and better for you.
My connection is now slower in general, also for some reason, B71 went from 20 to 15Mhz making a iffy situation, worse. I will wait a couple of months to see if they finally bring n41 online, if nothing happens before the end of the summer I will probably switch to ATT since a lot of spots I used to see great speeds are now super inconsistent.

That sucks. I wonder how long it'll be before T-Mobile starts thinning Band 41 LTE for 5G use. The way I see it, the 20MHz that's currently reserved for small cells are either going to be first to go or last to go. They definitely help augment Sprint's LTE coverage very well so it might be necessary to keep them for a while until they can replace them with 5G small cells.
We never got to see non-contiguous 2.5 CA, so it would be nice to see them deploy that now to maximize spectrum use and minimize impact on current Sprint b41 users.

I went up to the Bronx yesterday and experienced a weird issue where my phone wouldn't get more than 2Mbps down. It definitely seemed out of the ordinary given that the network screens showed that I had pretty much a perfect signal. After I restarted my phone, speeds went up to 71 Mbps down and 27 Mbps up.
Maybe I'm lucky but for me T-Mobile has been consistently in the 40-80Mbps range. It's slower than my average Sprint speeds in the same areas but T-Mobile has had better indoor LTE coverage in the places I frequent.
My only complaint is that they really need to densify their 5G footprint. It's a shame that T-Mobile can get away with saying they cover NYC in 5G when 9 times out of 10, I'm on LTE while outdoors. The 5G experience on Sprint is way superior to T-Mobile.
The issue with N71 is that it's deployed for capacity and not coverage, which kinda makes sense since there is quite a bit of density in general. But it's somewhat of a double edged sword since you end up giving up the potential coverage of 600mhz.
-
Went up to Westchester and Bedford NY, totally surprised.
In parts of Westchester, phone would drop signal then eventually would Roam on Sprint(took forever to finally make the switch) then in Bedford NY it was worse! No signal on either carrier.
Another thing I gotta say, VoLTE is definitely less reliable than Sprint, sometimes it just freeze after initiating a call and others just go blank mid-call. At first I was thinking maybe it's proxy issue going thru Sprint but I noticed it on other TMobile direct phones in similar spots.
Was really hoping TMobile would at least fill in some of Sprint's weak spots around my way, but so far, my experience has been subpar.
Btw, Happy mother's day!

Network Vision/LTE - New York City Market

I've heard a few markets that 71 got downgraded so I assume the temp dish agreement expired. Was also looking forward to seeing more N41 sites especially with 60mhz worth of spectrum, but alas have seen very little movement in bringing more N41 sites online and have yet to see any sites with over 40mhz.
