  1. Sprint has officially announced Unlimited Freedom Premium, which can be added on a per-line basis for $20/month. As the press release says, some people don't mind "mobile optimization" for certain content based on their usage habits, while others do.

Did anyone else notice it says up to 1080p for videos while the T-Mobile one says up to 4K?  Seems like they're still limiting the amount of bandwidth for video, just enough for 1080p.  Not saying 4K isn't overkill, just an observation.

Interesting AT&T's unl data plan requires a minimum $50 DirecTV plan.

  2. Something to keep in mind is that some of the dates are very tentative, and could slip relatively easily.

I understand delays, but almost an entire year since they began work?? Something must have really kept them from continuing the upgrade, whether it was permit status or lack of backhaul.  I'm hoping someone that has access to Glance can shed an update.

  3. This is just a question.  According to @Sprintcare on twitter, this site was to begin work early November and be LTE ready on B25/B26 by the end of March.  When I asked about it prior to leaving Sprint early this year, their executive team didn't give a reason.  It is still broadcasting legacy 3G only.  Anyone have access to Sprint's Glance to see what the status is now?

  4. Long live ED1500! I have a 25% discount and 5 lines and my total bill with all taxes and fees is $221. This is less than $45 per line and includes phone subsidy. I've done the math with every plan sprint offers and have yet to find a cheaper option.

I had 5 line plan, with no leasing on ED1500 but my plan came close to $300/month. I also had a 26% discount.
  5. Yep, and this is how T-Mobile will try to make more money. They created the welfare economy by offering heavy discounts to attract customers and now have to raise prices to offset the network burden.

I do think it's a great idea for them to gradually increase prices, especially when their pricing was of the cheapest in the industry for a great product, but they're changing too much at once. People are used to included high-speed tethering (14GB/month was included yesterday.) Today, it's None, and costs $15 for 5GB! People are used to 14 GB included for free. BingeOn was an option for subscribers on older plans. Now, it's required. The pricing is also a bit more than people on the promotional plans previously ($160/4, as opposed to the $150/4 or $100/2 that many people jumped on.) To market this as an Uncarrier movement is rather ironic as there's nothing but adding pain-points, instead of removing them.

    EDIT: Typo

  6. Well yes and no. The unlimited 2G is for hotspot data, but the language is grey for how video streaming while using the hotspot would be. I read it as all hotspot data is 2G which means video is useless.

Well then this plan really is a huge letdown.  They should have kept the ~14GB or so for everything else aside from video and let BingeOn handle the video portion.  They're slowly removing features now.

EDIT: It's now $15 for 5GB of high-speed hotspot on the new plans.  Yikes.

Smartphone Mobile Hotspot: Add 5GB of high-speed tethering when you need it for $15.

  7. Un-carrier 12 Announced

No more LTE bucket hotspot, only 2G unlimited hotspot.

$20 for unlimited LTE on a tablet as an "add a line"

    Plans available 9/6/16

Well, I don't use much hotspot, but it is incredibly nice to have when you're on vacation with no access to WiFi (for a tablet/laptop.)  Sounds like they'll allow for 480p streaming with unlimited 2G for basic browsing/emails.  For now, I'll hold onto my $150/4 line unlimited promo for as long as I can.  The 14GB hotspot at full speed is too good to let go.

Definitely a good offer for new customers though.  Although me personally I'd hold out for another unlimited plan promo.

  8. As far as the AT&T plans go, I still don't see where the cost advantage is that great over Verizon. Considering their network isn't as great as Verizon's, I don't see why they don't cut prices or or offer more features to compete. I guess their main focus is pushing "unlimited" with bundling AT&T mobile service and DIRECTV.

The best advantage I see is for the BYOD options. AT&T is also rated higher in customer service than Verizon. AT&T's coverage overall is very similar to Verizons, the only difference is a lot of AT&T's rural coverage is still edge/HSPA (no LTE.)
  9. Yes that sounds accurate. We need more band 41. Also I don't know if this is a device issue or a network issue but I fall back to 3G a lot earlier than I should.

It's mainly an issue with eCSFB. Sprint's B26, while can be very usuable at lower levels (-120dBm), it tends to drop off around -115 or so on most devices as the lower signals can result in failed circuit switch to 1x for calls (meaning blocked calls.) Basically, Sprint needs density and VoLTE for LTE to become more useful, especially on B26.

  10. I also see that sprint now covers "approximately" 300 million people now according to the article with the HTC 10 and 3CA.

    Is Sprint quietly expanding coverage?

I've seen overlays, but no actual coverage improvements.  My guess is they changed the algorithms to measure coverage to make it look bigger and not actually 'lie'.  The coverage map for Sprint's LTE is the same as it's been for awhile now.  Actually, with the latest update, Jacksonville seems to have lost some LTE Plus coverage!

  11. Sprint is getting better. In Florida Verizon is the king and T-Mobile is starting to challenge them. At&t is really good too but if we are talking solely LTE coverage and speeds Sprint is so far behind its ridiculous. Went to Vegas recently and Sprint was way better without any b26 anywhere.

It's because Vegas has all new equipment.  If Sprint had that type of funding for each market, they'd catch up quickly.  Sprint's B41 network could be as great (or even better) than T-Mobile's B4 network.  They just need to replicate that and for rural coverage, B25/26 is good enough since it's nationwide.

  12. Also I want to add that even articles that didn't have anything to do with Sprint, the Godfather trolls (  S. ALI,  Fabian Cortez aka Spuckle, Babaganush, and his others alias from Battlestar Galactica infested the place. Not to mention that troll that was a member here Maximus was part of the mob too.

BTW hi guys,  I know you are lurking, too bad you don't have a passport to S4GRU country.

Now Howard forums and Reddit will be in an endless war.

Actually, on /r/Sprint and /r/TMobile the trolls tend to be downvoted and their posts automatically hidden after it hits a certain threshold.  However, I do expect to see HowardForums inheriting a bunch of those troll posts, even though that site is also decently moderated.

  13. Sprint's Claure out-earned CEOs of Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile in 2015

    $27 million

    http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/sprint-s-claure-out-earns-ceos-verizon-at-t-and-t-mobile

I don't think he should be getting that much, unless he did as well as Legere has done turning things around.  But, I did notice one thing.

Claure pocketed more than $22 million in stock awards

A majority of his paycheck was in Sprint stock.  More companies should do this when paying their executives so it gives incentive to make the company perform well.

  14. Sprint distant last place in J.D. Power customer care study. http://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/07/30/att-has-best-wireless-customer-care-in-the-u-s-study/

It was interesting that Sprint didn't seem to really care that I was porting my entire family out.  Their retention offers were non-existent.  But, for most of my calls, their customer service seemed decent.  Maybe I got lucky.
