  1. I'm wondering about this. I tried putting in my VZW iPhone's IMEI into the website and it said it wasn't eligible. Not sure why.

After searching around, it looks like my Nexus 5x isn't working because it's registered as a Prepaid device (when I used it on Ringplus).  I am going to see if I can submit a ClickIT ticket to get this thing moved back to postpaid eligible.

  2. Sprint's Regional Market Twitter Feeds.

For example, Salt Lake City, Utah: https://twitter.com/Sprint4Utah/status/874299656355946496

I wonder if @digiblur would be able to confirm whether Sprint's speeds actually improved around him or not.  I recall him leaving a few years ago because they weren't rolling out LTE in the areas around him.

    EDIT: He's in New Orleans.

  3. What I really hope is that if it is a tie up with T mobile then the networks merge almost right away though a project fi type set up.

My guess is they're completely decommission CDMA/EvDo and re-use that spectrum to further LTE capacity.  Similar to how they managed the MetroPCS transition.  The only difference is most of Sprint devices already support all of T-Mobile's frequencies so I think the transition will be quite smooth.

  4. That new promotion is interesting but has zero to do with what I said. My point is Sprint isn't necessarily trying to cover every single human in the lower 48. Nor should they necessarily be trying to. My point is clear and solid in that if it doesn't work for you (or whomever) then stop whining and find a carrier that does. Sprint doesn't owe you coverage. In fact, they don't owe you or me or anyone else (aside from shareholders) anything at all. Entitlement, that's a major problem these days.

The issue isn't entitlement, it's negligence on Sprint's end, or over-promising/under-delivering.  They stated a few times during network vision they were planning on having LTE on almost all of the sites, and then even NGN was supposed to be properly funded and going in full-throttle.  So in a sense, if Sprint says they're going to do it, you're very well entitled to what they promise.  That and of course, the terrible coverage maps that state you're covered when you're actually not.  :hmm:

I do think it's unrealistic to think Sprint is in a position to expand to 100% LTE coverage, but the point is they can't properly fund for the network, especially if they start giving away service for a year.  Something tells me they're juicing up their subscribers for a buyout/merger.

  5. Switch to Sprint and get FREE Unlimited for 1 year.

    https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/offers/free-unlimited.html?ECID=vanity:1yearfree

Save more than $900 in the first year vs. Verizon

Get Unlimited data, talk & text free for 1 year

Keep your phone and phone number

No annual contracts, no activation fees - a $30 savings!

    (Offer ends June 30th)

Between this and 6 free Months of Tidal Hi-Fi, Sprint is using a lot of cash on customer acquisition.

Do you have to switch from Verizon to get in on this?
  6. I would love to try this but first I have to make sure this doesn't effect Sprint software updates. When we get the next security update let me know if it goes through for you.

My guess is he flashed firmware from the unlocked variant which works without any issues since they are signed by Samsung. If he used that method, it will most definitely fail the firmware checks in the Sprint OTA file. We'll see if that's how he did it, though.

  7. Just as I suspected. T-Mobile pretends like their network is equivalent to Verizon and AT&T, but their metrics tell a different story

    097fc5cdb3.png

Their ARPU is nowhere near AT&T and their churn is much higher than T and V

This is a bad chart or outdated chart. At&t is losing customers, so their ARPU is becoming less of an advantage. Churn is also at a record low for TMobile and ARPU on T-Mobile is very similar to Verizon's while also adding many more customers.

T-Mobile claims their churn is at 1.18% as of Q1 2017.

  8. Yea, I saw that. This is an encouraging quote from that article..

"The Sprint LTE network saw a boost in nationwide average download speed also showing some improvements are happening. Nationwide average download speed is up over 15% to 16.82 Mbps. Sprint also has the fastest or second fastest network in 8 cities that we track showing that performance is getting better overall. Both Sprint and T-Mobile saw gains in network performance for April 2017 while Verizon and AT&T did not."

Make me want to grab a new Sprint sim through an MVNO and just test the network around town. haha still got my Nexus 5x as a backup device.

  9. For those that want to know how the network is in Manhattan, particularly considering ultra high macro+small cell density. Its simply spectacular.

I'd be willing to bet average speeds for Sprint in the island of Manhattan are probably somewhere between 30 and 40mbs.

    Sample from yesterday's testing..

It looks like Sprint's speed is imporiving in a lot of markets.  Look at the speed graph in this crowd-coursed article.

    http://speedsmart.net/wireless_index/april_2017/

Some markets are still too slow but they are very competitive in a lot of them.

  10. Verizon is set to shutdown its 1X network by December 31, 2019: http://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/verizon-to-shut-down-2g-cdma-1x-network-by-end-2019

Then the next question is will Sprint find reliable regional carriers to roam on when Verizon shuts off their Legacy network, or will Sprint be forced to improve it's native coverage with the limited capex it currently has?

  11. Verizon has always had more coverage in rural areas.

    Using Tapatalk on Note 8.0

Isn't this where Sprint relies on Verizon's 1x/3g network for roaming?  People probably don't care as much about coverage difference if they can still get a text/call through.  But when Verizon shuts off their 1x/3G network, won't it make Sprint's coverage disadvantage much more noticeable?

  12. Has Google confirmed HTC as the manufacturer of the Pixel 2? I'm quite skeptical of anything related to HTC at this point, and would much rather see Google taking the Pixel manufacturing over to either Samsung or Sony. It would certainly be easy for the Pixel 2 having an infinite display and waterproofing if it were manufactured by Samsung. Sony possibly too, since Sony has done great with waterproofing on their smartphones for many years, and Sony does have a very near-the-edge display on the XA Ultra model.

Sony does the best job with their smaller devices and being able to fit everything inside well.  Sony also was the first to bring the water "resistant" concept to mainstream flagships.  I would be interested in a Sony device like that.  Samsung as well has proven themselves on the hardware front.  Especially with modem advances.  The 4x4 MIMO, 256 QAM and other enhancements make the network noticeably faster.

I almost purchased the Pixel but it's out of stock nearly each time I look on the Google Store.  They need to fix supply issues next time, but Google has been notorious for being bad at predicting demand...

  13. It would be nice if Samsung re-released the Tmobile Galaxy S8 with the 835 chip and updated X16 modem with B71 LTE support.  I would hate to have to choose between just the Note 8 and Pixel 2.

The Pixel 2 has to dramatically improve its hardware before it can compete with other big flagships.  IP53 rating in the Pixel 1 is unacceptable and needs to be IP68 rated for the Pixel 2.  In addition the Pixel 2 should follow Samsung and Apple in designing an all screen phone that has minimal bezels to maximize screen real estate.

The bezel and waterproofing likely won't happen with HTC making the phone, to be honest.  They seem to always have the larger bezels of the manufacturers.
