  1. This tower over by me must be really overloaded on a daily basis. I get such varying speed tests. Just a second ago I did a speed test and got 198 ping, .46 download and .46 upload.....and I just did another one to "see" and got a ping of 363, 0.00 download and 0.00 upload....

And another with a (null) test failed. Sigh lol

Another edit: just looked and saw that they have done 4 speed upgrades on the tower on lake underhill and alafaya... :o

I don't even bother looking at the Sprint upgrades, as I have found they rarely mean anything in the real world.

  2. LTE is still active at Winter Park Towers, though I'm getting a really terrible ping and download. In my front yard, 340ms ping and 500kbps down, not the 6mbps I first got on Saturday.

I've noticed that sometimes at Winter Garden village as well. Don't know if it's peak time lag or testing or what, but certainly can be a pain.

Also, who gave our LTE inspector the weekend off? :-)

  3. I am trying to decide whether to stay with Sprint. We recently moved from Austin, TX to Orlando, FL and are not happy with the service. I have an S2 and my wife has an S1. In Austin, we had great service, 3G was slow, but we could get Wimax just about anywhere we went in the City so it wasn't an issue. Also, almost always had 4 bars of cell signal.

Now we move to Orlando, and Wimax coverage seems like a slice of swiss cheese. Only get Wimax in a few areas. Also, many of the areas we frequent seem to have low cell phone coverage. We have been with Sprint since the 90's, but we are both getting frustrated with dropped calls and unable to send texts. We are thinking of switching.

My question is regarding NV and LTE upgrade. Will this improve coverage in Orlando or will coverage stay the same. Basically, will areas with little cell signal stay the same and areas were you get good signal will have better 3G and LTE? The Sprint CSR was telling me that Wimax was never fully deployed in Orlando and it was in Austin, so that's why I don't get Wimax everywhere. Also, he said once the NV upgrades are complete cell coverage will increase and I will get better cell signal in areas where I have little bars.

Example.. We were at the Loop (Chili's) and our family could send/receive calls/texts, except the a couple of us who had T-mobile.

I would like to stay with Sprint, but if things are going to stay the same, coverage wise, I think it may be best we move on.

I imagine it's frustrating going from a great Sprint city to one that isn't as great. The question is can you wait for good unlimited LTE. If unlimited data doesn't matter to you and/or you're not worried about pricing, then I'd advocate looking at sensorly.com and the carrier sites to get an idea of who would be best for you. Between the discount I'm getting and how much data I use, leaving Sprint would cost me a minimum of $50/month, so I'm just dealing with it and celebrating each time LTE gets flipped on somewhere near me. In the end only you can decide if it's worth waiting though.

  4. Any thoughts on why my radio Apps disconnect so often? I'm a Virgin Mobile customer, have a Galaxy S2 4g (I know it's WiMax and won't work for the new LTE, I think it's only 1900 mHz CDMA). But when driving I get some 4g (I'm guessing WiMax) and 3g depending, and I'm trying to listen to any TuneIn Radio or iHeart Radio Apps and it is useless and will not stay connected to the data stream. It acts like any time it swithces towers, it loses the stream. Works perfect on cell tower connectivity while I'm at home in Metrowest and on my home WiFi. It's "talk" radio so I'm guessing it's not an excessive bandwidth thing. Runs Android 4.1.2. Doesn't help if I turn off 4g and drive around. I drive around Metrowest, Ocoee and Winter Garden and have this problem, so as a Virgin Mobile customer, I have to think there are still Sprint native towers around there. It is so bad the radio apps become useless when driving.

Would it be that Virgin Mobile customers just get crummy priority and every time I jump towers I just get too low a priority? Or maybe just that Sprint is in transition with all their Orlando data networks and it should get better? I'm one of those users who doesn't need lightning fast. Until I buy a new phone, I'd be OK knowing with the LTE rollout I wouldn't get an improved 4g WiMax connection, that's OK. But once the Orlando has NV I am hoping I could at least have some stable 3g usablilty for a simple low-bit rate radio app.

Go ahead and yell at me if this isn't the place for this type of question, he he, I'm a non-tech newbie here. Even if no one knows for sure, I'd be happy to hear some guesses or thoughts. Thanks.

A few things: the handoff between towers (if you could even find multiple continuous Wimax towers on your drive) is typically not great, so I wouldn't be too surprised if you drop connection between towers.

Second, the handoff between 3G and Wimax was never very graceful for me so again, no surprise that it's not great for you.

Third, West Orlando's 3G has always varied between acceptable and abysmal. Depending on when you're trying to stream could be a high volume timeframe when streaming of any kind will go poorly.

Finally, I believe that Sprint is throttling prepaid users who use more than 2.5GB in a month, so you might have hit the soft cap too.

  5. had to drive over to Bithlo this morning, talk about an LTE hotzone! I was running tests and getting between 10-20mbps down all the way until I got back up on Alafaya - then it went back to solid 3G.

"Welcome to Bithlo - We Have Sprint LTE!!"

  6. One reason can be that when not in use you have the phone sitting on a piece of furniture. Once you put it on your hand the your body alters the antenna properties; though very slight. Remember that your body does have electrical properties. This is normal performance.

    @l3x

    You're holding it wrong. :-P

  7. Happens to me every single day, multiple times a day in my apartment as well. I think you might be on the edge of the signal limit then..

This happens to me all the time in one room of the house. Usually signal is -118 to -124

  8. Occoee seems to leave me in the dark for 4G today at Hiawassee and SR50... Connected but no data flow. Same thing happened to me last sunday in Daytona. It was working again by tuesday... Disney Hollywood Studios had a good steady 102-113 signal throughout most of the park today, steady 5-6 down. Good enough though the park has free wifi acces pulling 16 down and 23 up on average.

The Pine Hills tower on 50 seems like it's really getting the snot beat out of it being the only 4G tower for a considerable distance.

  9. This is something most people seem not to grasp. You can put new tires on a car, but rebuilding the whole engine along with new tires on it takes a little longer ;)

While the car is still driving.

  10. That's how it was for me at the Magic Kingdom Friday. Absolutely atrocious data signal and I went through three batteries and we didn't even get there until 2pm.

Sadly, Disney in general has always had very iffy signal with Sprint. I used to work in AK and couldn't even GET a 3G signal in the trailer behind the Safari, much less have it be fast. Nowadays, if I get a strong LTE signal it's ok, but when the parks are packed like they have been lately, it still grinds down quite a bit. They do at least have free wifi though :-)

  11.

Tampa and Miami got launched today. Hopefully Orlando is next

This would be perfect! I just got my 5 so I would be more than happy to have LTE all around orlando, and in my apartment of course lol

That's definitely what I care about. Give me LTE in Ocoee!

Not necessarily new towers, but just LTE on the existing ones. I'm assuming acceptance means they're clear to work on it? Or does it mean they have approval and have actually started work on it? And how long will it take from being "accepted" to us actually seeing a 4G icon on our phones? I'm just saying there has been no additional sensorly LTE locations added anywhere near downtown in 2 months it seems like.

LTE acceptance typically means LTE is available but is not always the case. Similarly, I've seen the tower in pine hills broadcast LTE a full two weeks before it was accepted.

As for location, Ocoee is in a similar situation with not getting LTE live other than bleed through from pine hills and winter garden. Not having LTE where you want it isn't the same as no progress. ;)

  13. Even after the heavy rain today in ormond / port orange + overcast there was a tower crew at nova and reed canal.

I was actually eyeballing the tower passing by and didn't notice the workers, I only noticed the line going up to where they were, I immediately did a U-turn and pulled into the storage lot.

I only company name I saw on the trucks were american tower(I guess I read it wrong), the other trucks seemed unmarked; Was already being eyeballed driving so close in a private lot, so I didn't get any better of a look than the pic I took.

I wondered where that LTE signal that I had in bed lastnight came from, to bad it was only on for a split second..

Nice to see progress happening even with this weather. When they're done can you send them to Ocoee, please? :-)

  14. So is all this rain essentially halting the LTE rollout here in Orlando? Haven't seen any new towers light up in what, a month or 2?

It certainly isn't helping, and remember too, the Orlando market doesn't just mean metro Orlando. Towers well outside the city limits have been getting lit up like crazy, especially in the outlying areas (probably easier to get access to sites here). Either way, they are definitely making progress, even if they're not lighting up towers in the order I would prefer. :-)

  15. Has anyone been to Disney in the very recent past. Just wondering if the LTE makes it all the way through all the parks yet. Im going in august an hoping that by then they have made much more progress.

Unless there are some undocumented acceptances, it definitely does not. Goes through parts of MK, very little of Epcot, and some of Studios. I could get a faint but useless signal in the Animal Kingdom parking lot also.

  16. I will say this. Sprint needs to improve the network in downtown Nashville. With the CMT Music Festival in town and the crowd it brings, the newtwork could barely send a text message. I know it is still being worked but this is a perfect stress test of the network and it was disappointing.

Same story when the parks are busy in Orlando or when there's a large convention

  17. I'm going to assume this means work still continues, but 1xRTT for a data connection is agonizing. (Sandlake Rd/International Dr) I believe we are well into one month of progress, and I hope ro see improvements soon.

That seems to have gone away in Ocoee, but sadly I think Andrea is slowing progress towards LTE.
