I haven't had to do as it has just picked it up on it's own. I will try that though for next time.

It's definitely not super common but just notice that occasionally airplane mode doesn't do the trick for whatever reason.

I took a trip to the Walmart Neighborhood Market and my service was the same as before. Very poor signal with 3G only. Do you think maybe they were just testing it because like you said it's a deadzone for Sprint in that area.

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I've noticed that occasionally I need to reboot to acquire an LTE signal. Perhaps that was the issue?

When is backhaul scheduled for Daytona. Also one thing I'm confused about, there are some towers in Daytona that sprints says have had data speed upgrades, yet when I'm near them, my 3g still sucks. A sprint rep claims they are only 1% finished in Volusia county but the numbers aren't adding up

I'd be willing to bet that customer service has old and outdated information on the rollout. Also I've found that without dates, it's hard to gauge when upgrades went in. Also, the tower could still be well overloaded.

  4. Thanks. What part of Sanford did you see the crew working. Cause Iive off celery ave and for a couple of day there was a crew laying orange wires. And somebody told me those are fiber cable. But I didn't know if it was for sprint cause the nearest tower is about 2 miles away from my home. I though it might have been AT&T laying cables for U-verse

Might be both? Aren't Bright House and AT&T both backhaul providers for Sprint?

  5. From what I have been seeing the back haul should be complete, or near completion, from north International Dr all the way to Disney World, up to the Winter Garden and Windermere Areas to 192. Almost every highway in this area is having fiber optic line laid. I have really been amazed by the number of crews and miles of flags and new markers I have seen pop-up. Then I began checking numerous cellsites and noticed evidence of recent fiber cable being laid. Recently, I was in Sanford and Orange City and observed similar work being complete there too. 4 lte has to follow soon!

This would be awesome news. Now we just need more towers completed.

  6. Guys I really tried hard to stick with Sprint. I just couldn't handle having horrible 3g and no 4G. I left my Samsung Galaxy S3 and Sprint on Saturday.

This is a speed test on T-Mobile. That's not even LTE. It's HSPA+ and it's not too bad. Uploads might not be insanely high but still sufficient.

  7. Having a Verizon LTE JetPack through work, it is nothing to brag about in the Conway area or in the Winter Park area. At home in Conway, the download speed is less than 1 Mbs, and in Winter Park, it is between 3 Mbs and .3 Mbs...depending upon where you are at. It's a black hole near the high school.

Part of the issue is that people likely remember when the network was so new and always pulling down 25mbps or higher.

  8. Was browsing around the Sprint Forums and I just saw this from a Sprint Customer Care representative - apparently the Orlando area is 13% done...

"Thanks for the reply. I understand your frustration, currently Orlando has yet to launch. I can tell you that the Orlando area is at 13% of over 600 towers. We still have a ways to go before we launch your area. I'm sure there are areas that have LTE upgrades added but we could pull the service due to fine tunning needs. When we launch and area its because its 100% ready to go. You can use the network site to see the progress of where its at. It should show you if a particular area got and upgrade and if there is LTE service near by. Also other posters on this thread gave some good words of advice about certain apps that track this progress.

Whether it's 8 or 13%, we still have a ways to go before Metro Orlando is even mostly covered.

  9. I've found connectivity to be sort of hit and miss. I can usually get and maintain it from the 429 parallel to MK to wester way, down western way to world drive, and then I usually lose it in the EC parking lot. If I go towards MK, I can usually get just about into Main Street before it starts dying one me.

  10. Take it for what it is worth, but I was told today that Sprint has completed 8% of the 274 towers in the Orlando market for Lte.

Seems a little conservative to me, but I can't argue with the source.

If they're counting towers inside of the major beltway highways that might be accurate. Remember that earlier last year Robert did some great writeups of the different markets, and the Orlando market was then seen as Orlando itself plus a lot of outskirts and smaller communities. Now as they move closer to Metro Orlando, we should see the 8 percent creep up.

I'm right there with you. If they would complete a tower just 4 miles east and a mile or two North, my house would have LTE goodness :-$

  12.

Exactly, I only care about my area by Michigan and Conway. Coverage is so abysmal there. My house is like in a black hole of coverage. If I walk across the street I get decent service, but without my Airave I can't even make calls from my house.

The unlimited data and my SERO Plan ($50/mo) are the only things keeping me around. Though I keep telling myself that if their service isn't improved by the time the next iPhone comes out I will be jumping ship to Verizon. Honestly I don't even care that much about LTE, I just want to be able to get 3G speeds .5mbps-1mbps consistently.

Worst case scenario for me, if I had to flat out leave, I'd go to Tmo for the 70/month unlimited data without caps. Their 3G is at least moderately speedy.

  13.

I agree, unlimited data is their crux and the single reason why I am still with Sprint. I don't like the data pricing of Verizon & AT&T either. I've been a longtime Sprint customer. But even as a loyal customer, at some point you start to question things when you are given no information and kept in the dark about your city. Sure they are currently "rolling it out" according to Sensorly, but really what do we know for sure? It still might be late summer or end of 2013 into 2014 before Orlando is deployed for all we know. A full 3 years after other carriers. I've been pulling for Sprint since they're the underdog and offer unlimited data, but at some point if Sprint continues to keep us all in the dark, how can people keep paying a premium for 2G data speeds? That's just not right.

For me I don't even care about full market, I just care about Ocoee/Winter Garden (selfish, I know).

... as he enjoys his Verizon device. Not trying to complain anymore. I'm over it. Maybe I'll join you on Big Red.

There are days that I've gotten frustrated with Sprint 3G,but Verizon always talks me out of it with their insane data pricing structure. Maybe that's not a concern for you, but I've compared what I would be paying for with the same usage on Verizon and AT&T and there is simply no comparison. I also don't need unlimited minutes so that incentive of the shared data plan is meaningless to me.

  15. For what it's worth:

-AT&T Launched 4G LTE in Orlando January 5th, 2012. Basically the end of 2011 they had their network up here. Over a year ago.

-Verizon had their network up in Orlando in 2011. Almost 2 years ago.

Why didn't either of these carriers have a problem with "birds nests?" Why didn't these other carriers have to rebuild each of their towers from the ground up?

Where I live less than 3 miles from downtown Orlando I can hardly get 0.2Mbps or send a picture text message. We are talking 2G speeds here, yet they are selling us LTE devices with pride.

Years of underinvestment and flat out neglect. Believe me, the wait sucks, but them going to all this trouble will mean that Sprint LTE will actually work and be stable. I've been in metro Atlanta with an LTE device and have enjoyed being able to stream on the go.

  16. Looks like on sensorly there is a blip of 4g at Universal Studios!!! now all i need is for the westside of Orlando to fill out!!!

I wonder if it's on the Doctor Phillips side? I was at the Kirkman road Starbucks and was only getting 3G.

  17. Sprint is bringing LTE to virtually every tower. You can’t associate current WiMax coverage with Sprint’s future LTE coverage, for WiMax is provided by Clearwire. How is your Sprint signal?

Not to mention if they're using 1900 mhz and eventually 800mhz bands for LTE, the signal penetration should be better than the penetration we got from wimax (I think it was 2400mhz?)

  18. Ok so I found some pretty extraordinary stuff while I was in Melbourne today. With my iPhone being jailbroken, I got an app called Signal 2, which approximates the location of the cell phone tower you're connected to. It's not 100% accurate but this is as good as it gets.

So I ran a speed test at this exact spot shown below in the first picture, and got the speed test result shown in the 2nd picture. I got just under 30mpbs within thousands of feet of an active LTE tower. So I can probably suggest to expect to see a maximum download speed of 30-35mbps and an average of 4-10mbps indoors when it's launched here in Orlando, but of course, it could be even faster.

Also, check out the third photo. When the line is blue, it means the tower is visible, but not connected. So it turns out my iPhone detected a tower's approximate location in Oviedo all the way from Melbourne, which I thought was pretty incredible. That gives us an idea of the real potential of a tower's signal strength. I thought these were very interesting. Can't wait to see this stuff happen on our side of town.

I definitely have never seen LTE go so fast on Sprint, probably the best I have seen is about 20mbps down while I was in ATL for a week, and that was very late at night. Either way, hoping that if Orlando is 25% complete and most of those sites are on the outskirts, that they'll eventually start focusing on the central areas of the market a little more (like Ocoee, cough, cough) :)

  19. I was having dropped calls and delayed voicemails. Now I have 5 bars instead 1, and friends with Sprint can now use their phones in my house without me having to enter my secure wifi info into their phones. Sprint provided it for free because of the issues I started having.

Yeah, my mom lives in Jacksonville and needed to improve call quality which is why she got it.

  20. Slightly off topic...Airave arrived yesterday and after some issues of getting a GPS lock and unexplained iPhone 5 issues pulling the expected data speeds, it has definitely improved the 3G experience throughout my home in Conway. Not an LTE fix, but it is a nice bandaid until NV upgrades are available in the Conway area.

Personally I only would get one if I was having call drop issues since if I'm going to boost 3g with my own Internet I might as well just use wifi. Just my 2cents. Glad you like the airave

  21. Phoenix is in the beginning stages of being deployed, a lot of sites in progress and a few sites 3g accepted. I will let u know that alcatel-lucent likes to get the site done and 3g accepted then 4g goes live a few weeks after or sometimes a month or two after. I am glad to see your excited about seeing 4g coming to the valley, yet I am in phoenix for business right now. Honestly it isn't that bad, I have been in a lot worse places for work and the 3g took forever to even load google.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but robert is really busy with his main job that pays the bills for his family. He does this on his own time and honestly I am amazed how much the site gets updated. Robert is trying to not get mad at some people for asking questions about each own market, when the website has individual market pages letting everyone know what is going on. He understands everyone is excited about 4g, but he gets that question every day by tons of people. The answers are normally in this website, just have to do a little looking around.

This is as good a time as any to say Thanks to Robert for working so hard to keep us in the know!
