  1. Little late to the party over here, but SignalCheck always shows the 1X provider name in the pulldown menu. The EV-DO and LTE provider names is a much newer feature in the app, perhaps I will have to address that somehow.. As digiblur said, the 31000 MCC-MNC is invalid.. it pops up on Samsung devices often. Nothing on that screenshot leads me to believe that device was roaming on LTE at the time. -Mike
  2. It's 0.04 inches (<1 mm) thicker than the HTC One; is that really a significant difference to you? Even if you feel that it is too significant, is that small of a change really a concern when you're talking about a device that measures 6.5 x 3.25?! Anyone purchasing a device this large is not going to shy away because it is ~1mm thicker than a comparable phone about an inch smaller length and width-wise. -Mike
  3. Commenters on that article seem to hint that Vodafone pricing is always high, and mention that the unlocked Note 3 is over ~$1000 for them. Plus, the article also shows that it can be picked up for ~$79 with a 2-year contract agreement, which is better than the deals we usually see in the US for a high-end device at launch. CNET UK has a nice writeup about the max.. they point out the 600 as a negative, but also state that it's fully capable of handling any app or game available today: http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/mobile-phones/htc-one-max-review-50012476/ -Mike
  4. No offense, but it is hard to decipher what you guys are trying to say. Not trying to call anyone out.. we all make typos, especially when using a phone. Just try to take a moment to proofread your post before you hit submit. If you are trying to raise an issue or ask a question, there are many of us who would love to help you out! Just my personal two cents.. -Mike
  5. John Q Public wants to be able to tell his iPhone buddies that he has a fingerprint scanner too. The average cellphone customer will probably never use half of the features on a device.. but they will buy the phone that has the longest list of features. I remember waiting to use my upgrade for one of the first BT-capable phones to come out back in the day.. held out for months. Something with BT hit the market that I liked, I bought it on launch day.. and never used BT once! I'm excited to hear that the max will be tri-band, but it might be a bit too large to use as a primary phone. Looking forward to physically holding one in-store to check that. I think the specs are adequate; as others have said, something faster and better is always around the corner. It takes time to design, engineer, and develop a device.. lots of factors go into deciding what the final specs will be. Not sure why so many get upset about a 600 vs. 800.. it is not like HTC was not aware there was a newer chip available. It breaks down to something along the lines of an analysis of $$ & power consumption vs. the performance enhancement realized. The laptop I have used every day for the past 5 years is a 2ghz dual core.. I am not going to be concerned if my cellphone is "only" a 1.7ghz quad core. -Mike
  6. Thanks! I knew some new ones had recently popped up, but Tapatalk search wasn't behaving and I couldn't remember what they were.. fully expected a reply like that from someone wiser than myself -Mike
  7. Yes, ericdabbs is correct.. a Sprint SID in the 22000's indicates that you are connected on CDMA 800. If you want more confirmation, you can also check your 1X engineering screen and see what channel you are on. Channel 476 indicates 800 SMR. -Mike
  8. Haha, more like moved to the corner of married and a new semester of grad school.. but if my new wife asks, that's Happy and Healthy!! It's been a hectic few weeks, so app development has been on the back burner. Later this week I should be able to find some time to button up a few loose ends and get a public update pushed out. There are some new features ready to go, plus I hope to get these cache bugs squashed. Appreciate the support and patience! -Mike
  9. Heh, at least you have seen them.. I'm in the Boston area, and have yet to see a single one of these alleged commercials. I've seen plenty of iPhone, Samsung, and LG commercials lately though. I personally don't choose my cellphone based on TV commercials or other marketing.. and if you're on S4GRU, you probably don't either. Unfortunately for HTC, most people do.. -Mike
  10. Anyone reading this thread by now probably already knows this, but HTC has confirmed that Android 4.3 and Sense 5 are coming to the EVO by the end of 2013. http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-lte-set-receive-android-43-and-sense-5-end-year -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Interesting, but I'd rather it cut off when it's that weak. My fairly uneducated opinion is that -138 dBm LTE is worse than a decent EV-DO connection. But who knows, perhaps there was no EV-DO in your area at the time. -Mike
  12. It's more of how GSM operates as opposed to something T-Mobile specific.. GSM does not have as many accessible pieces of data to display. There is no comparable BSL function on GSM (or EV-DO, or LTE), and that's everyone's favorite piece of the puzzle. -Mike
  13. Hmm.. again, the app doesn't "know" 1900 vs. 800 other than the SID changing. I will have to take a closer look at the code, but what you describe is basically what is already in place. My guess is that somewhere along the line, a partial piece of code is not seeing the new SID and/or BID. Please send your cache database (/data/data/com.blueline.signalcheck/databases/signalcheck_cache.db) to support[at]bluelinepc.com when you have a chance so I can take a look at it. Have you happened to confirm on your engineering screen that you're actually connected to the far-away 800 site when you are seeing the nearby 1900 address? Maybe we're not looking at the right bug, and the address is right, but the SID/BID is somehow wrong... -Mike
  14. Thanks for the screenshots! So do you typically only notice it when you are flipping between 1X 800? The app doesn't really know the technical differences between 800 and 1900, so that and your PRL might just be a coincidence. Please e-mail your cache database (/data/data/com.blueline.signalcheck/databases/signalcheck_cache.db) to support[at]bluelinepc.com when you have a chance. Unfortunately, that is not possible.. the icons in the status bar are intended to let you know that there is a notification in the pulldown drawer. The two components are really just one notification item. As has been mentioned a few times, the area for "real" status bar icons on the far left side of the status bar are reserved for the system and off-limits to third-party developers. The next version (the current beta has it now I believe) will have an option to prevent duplicate 1X icons from appearing, but that's about all of the "cleanup" possible. -Mike
  15. Very useful! I have an inactive T-Mobile phone that I use for GSM testing, and I always thought the CID looked large. It's always connected to UMTS. I will note that page and look into it, thanks! -Mike
  16. Hi, welcome! SignalCheck does display the most data on HTC devices (the EVO LTE and HTC One) because some internal HTC routines were discovered and are utilized. I wouldn't choose a smartphone based on what works best with SignalCheck though, there are many other factors you need to consider based on your own personal preferences. Non-HTC devices display a majority of the same information that HTC devices do, and with each new version of Android, more information is becoming available. For example, until Android 4.2, SignalCheck could only display the LTE GCI on HTC devices, a useful bit of data. Now it is starting to work as more carriers and custom ROM developers utilize features in Android 4.2 and 4.3. We don't see a lot of GSM users on this site and I don't hear from GSM users often, so feel free to let me know if you discover any bugs or have feature suggestions. -Mike
  17. So follow the instructions earlier in the thread and downgrade.. many people have already stated that the new version performs worse. -Mike
  18. That's a pretty $$$$$ area.. wonder if the NIMBY types are resisting construction efforts? -Mike
  19. Thanks! PM me your e-mail address and I will add you to the beta list. I was just about to declare the BSL cache problem fully resolved, bah! If you could provide specifics about how you see it happening (post here, PM, or e-mail, whatever works for you), I will look into it some more. -Mike
  20. I couldn't agree more! Some people drink, some people gamble, some people invest in fried chicken.. I throw my money away on Sox and Bruins tickets -Mike
  21. Thanks! It was incredible.. if anyone is looking for getaway ideas, I strongly recommend Aruba. It was even better than I anticipated. Take JetBlue, the flight goes by in no time.. -Mike
  22. Google has been very clear from the beginning that the right side of the taskbar would be off-limits to third-party developers. I'd love to be able to access that, but it's controlled by the system and I doubt that will ever change. Like Coz said, it is unlikely to appear in a stock ROM -- it would likely just create confusion for the average user. If you root your device, there are many options that allow you to play with system icons. -Mike
  23. Excellent! Please let me know if it happens again, I hadn't gotten any crash reports like that so hopefully it was a temporary thing. What a run the Sox are on.. loving it. I had Game 5 tickets for tomorrow night, but since they already took care of business, those tickets became ALCS Game 1 tickets for Saturday night! Twice the price, but I don't care.. just keep winning!! -Mike
  24. Like digiblur said.. sort of. SignalCheck will display lots of data about the site(s) that your device is connected to (perhaps as many as 3 sites at once), but a lot of that data is not terribly useful to the average joe. Many S4GRU users have compiled awesome lists that match up data displayed in SignalCheck to physical Sprint sites though. CDMA 1X sites do have the capability to broadcast latitude/longitude coordinate pairs--but not all providers program their sites to broadcast exact locations (see below). If valid coordinates are being broadcast, SignalCheck Pro displays the location as a street address. There is no comparable item for EV-DO, LTE, or GSM connections. Some Sprint sites broadcast coordinates that are offset a short distance from the site, representing the direction a sector is covering. Most sites have three sectors, so if you were to plot each of these points on a map, they should form a triangle around the physical site location. Other Sprint sites do broadcast their exact location. No Verizon Wireless sites broadcast valid coordinates, so Verizon users never see a location. -Mike
