  1. That would be my guess, but logging is only in the beta version right now.. I don't think you are a beta tester, are you @travismheim? Other than that, I have no idea; nobody else has reported similar issues, and I've never seen that myself (unless logging is left on for extended periods, which makes sense). I have been seeing a lot of off-the-wall reports of other apps using randomly high amounts of battery lately too, I'm wondering if there is something up with KitKat.. -Mike
  2. Haha! Just me overhyping what is really just the latest "alpha" version as I call it on the website changelog. Unfortunately, I haven't had any time at all in the past 2 weeks to get much app work in so I can wrap it up for testing, fairly certain this will be stable enough for public release. I haven't abandoned you guys, I promise.. -Mike
  3. I think it's a little more than that; I have all bands enabled and have messed with the priorities quite a bit on .15, .17, and .23 radios, and have never caught anything but regular B25 LTE. Plus, if it was that simple, it would have been included in the 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 updates already released, or the initial software update that was handled upon first bootup. -Mike
  4. The G2 is really the most comparable here, as both phones are manufactured by LG, so the radio code is most similar. The delay in pushing out an update might be related to some sort of bugs that popped up during the testing process, but I would have thought whatever adjustments were needed for the G2's radio would be fairly similar for the N5. It certainly could just be that it's done and Google hasn't pushed it out yet because they are waiting to include it in an OTA that includes other fixes as well. As a developer myself, I can say this is often the case. I might have a bug fixed, but don't want to release an update for just that one bug. You want to make it worthwhile; the Nexus 5 lacking full Spark compatibility only affects a small percentage of Sprint customers at the moment, and an even smaller percentage of Nexus 5 users. There are other things probably higher on Google's priority list (i.e. battery/camera issues) that they want to include. Just my two cents.. I have no sources or evidence to base any of this on. -Mike
  5. If that is in reply to me, it's the same thing. Third party = something not built into Android or by Google. If you think a specific app (or widget) is draining your battery, it is probably an issue with that item. -Mike
  6. No problem at all, I have been overwhelmed with work this week and haven't done much with the app anyway. Thanks for the screenshots; unfortunately they don't show anything that helps me out. Next time you are on an HD Voice call, can you go into SignalCheck and select About > Send Diagnostics and send the report while the call is still in progress? You will need to be on a device/network that lets you use data while on a call (or be connected to Wi-Fi). It only tries to send the report once; if it fails because your data connection is unavailable, it will show an error message but won't save the information or try again. Just please make sure that you include your username with the report and that you're sending it for HD Voice testing. I get dozens of reports every day, many that leave that information blank.. I have no idea if people are just playing around with the app, or assume I know who they are and what is wrong. Thanks, -Mike
  7. The only wireless standard in use today that broadcasts any location information like that is CDMA 1X; no other technologies (EV-DO, LTE, HSPA, etc) have anything comparable in its protocol. The only way to locate LTE sites is to A] follow the signal until you get down into the -70 dB RSRP range and then look around, because you are very close; or B] find a group on S4GRU that already did that for your market -Mike
  8. The app % values are all relative and don't necessarily indicate a problem with an app or your battery life. You need to provide some context if you think this is an issue. For example, if you unplug your phone from the charger, play a game for 10 minutes, then check those battery stats, you will see it showing very high numbers for that game (and probably "Screen" as well). You might have only used 1% of your overall battery capacity, but the stats are showing you a breakdown of what that 1% of usage was. Of course, if you are seeing random apps you didn't use showing legitimate impacts on long-term samples of battery life, there is a problem somewhere. If it's a third-party app like the one you mentioned, that's more likely a problem with that app, not Android. -Mike
  9. Enginerrs. That's probably something they put in during development and never went back and fixed (or hid). -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

The only discussions I've seen about not having an OTA for those who are already on 4.3 point the blame at Sprint, but I have no idea how much truth there is to that. -Mike
  11. Where is it leaked? There are often sightings of different/newer Nexus builds in the wild.. presumably that's Google people testing things out. Don't get me wrong, I want the update too.. but this isn't the first time something like this has been spotted. I don't think anyone ever doubted that Google was continuing work on the N5. -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

You could use something like Titanium Backup to save everything to your SD card, run the update, then restore. They anticipated the first revision to be the final update. I am happy they are continuing to release updates as bugs are discovered. I would imagine that the release date for the "final version" will be whenever they decide to stop pushing out any further fixes.. hopefully that's not until every last issue is resolved. I can see how this sort of update process is inconvenient, but its better than nothing. Developers had been trying to create a custom 4.3 ROM with Sense 5 for a year and couldn't get a version this stable. -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

Supposedly it fixes data roaming and the RUU installation process on Windows 8 machines.. but there isn't anything official posted by HTC that I can find. This 4.3 quasi-public quasi-beta test is rather unique but I like it. -Mike
  14. Hmm.. the app just uses what is called a "Listener" to monitor the cell signal data, it's not actively polling anything or taking any action that would kickstart the radio out of an idle state, unless some of the system calls do that without including it in the documentation. I just parked near a known LTE site in my area with SignalCheck running, and it flipped from eHRPD in a reasonable amount of time. Did a few laps to non-LTE areas and back, with SignalCheck running and with it not, and it didn't seem to impact it at all. Of course, I'm running the elite version that nobody else has yet, so that could be why. I'll keep my eye out for something that might cause the radio to stay "active", but in the meantime I guess the best I can do is ask that you patiently wait for the mythical update I keep promising everyone and see how that works out for you. -Mike

    HTC EVO 4G LTE

For those of you who are not aware, the official Android 4.3 update for the EVO LTE is now in its fourth revision (4.13.651.4), the latest of which apparently includes fixes for data roaming and installing the RUU from Windows 8. Installing this will wipe your device, even if you are already running one of the earlier 4.3 versions from HTC, so ensure that you have backed up whatever you want to save. Option A: If you want to do it the easy way, download the RUU and run it from your Windows-based computer; it will wipe out your phone (it should leave your SD card alone, but remove it if you want to be safe) and provide the latest factory fresh stock HTC version on your device. The link to download it is in an XDA post here; be sure to thank that poster for sharing his efforts. Option B: If you are already S-OFF and want to run a rooted version by flashing a custom recovery and then the ROM, follow the instructions in the XDA thread here. If all of that seems confusing to you, Option A is probably a better idea for you. Captain_Throwback is a huge asset to the EVO community for those who are not aware, so be sure to thank him as well. Either method you choose will take about 20 minutes, and the first boot will take awhile, so be patient. The two threads I linked to have all the technical information and answers that you might need; if you have a question, chances are somebody has already asked and answered it over there. I only wanted to post a note here for the S4GRU folks who might not be aware there are updates available. HTC has not ruled out further revisions, but they have been clear that any updates will require procedures like this; there will be no OTAs. I just appreciate the fact that they are making an effort to upgrade a device that has been out for nearly 2 years. -Mike
  16. It does use your data connection to translate 1X site coordinates into street addresses, but that's only if those coordinates haven't already been cached by the app yet. As far as I'm aware, that connection is properly closed when it finishes. Other than that, there isn't any data usage by the version of the app out there now (4.22), other than the minimal traffic which obviously happens when you switch sectors/sites/technologies/networks, but that is all managed directly by Android. You could have been experiencing the VERY annoying freezing/crashing/lagging bug that is hampering 4.22. Did you notice if your built-in system icon was reporting 3G or LTE? Your phone might have already switched over, but the app was frozen and didn't update the display. Or the app had choked your device to the point where it couldn't handoff or update the system icon until you killed the SignalCheck process(es). I'm doing everything I can to get a new update out that resolves this, as I realize it is a major issue.. the rest of my life just keeps getting in the way! -Mike
  17. The Android 4.3 update for the EVO has some bugs they are still working on. When it first came out, HTC said it would be the final version, but they have since released 4 updates to it and continue to take bug reports. I'm having trouble reactivating mine so I can test the LTE functionality myself, so feel free to pass along any data you gather. Those Diagnostic Reports are the best for me (and probably easiest for you). -Mike
  18. I believe this specific memo was limited to rebanding efforts along the Mexican border. I know it the South Florida issues had been previously discussed, I just don't think it is related to this specific document. -Mike
  19. Based on those and the diagnostic data you sent (which actually didn't show any PCI data at the moment you submitted the report to me?), I don't see anything out of the ordinary; values of 87 and 124 are certainly valid, but I have no idea if they are actually correct or not. Perhaps if you compare with engineering screens or SignalCheck on another device, you could determine if there are conflicts. SignalCheck just reports what it sees, so if it's wrong, it's an issue with the EVO radio firmware that I would have to try to work around. The inability to report PCI or TAC was not a limitation of the EVO LTE, but Android itself prior to version 4.2. Since the EVO now is up to 4.3, it can display this data if the radio is reporting it. I realize that the display looks a little odd because the frequency is showing up in the middle, but I have an updated EVO that I will be working with to correct that in a future app update. -Mike
  20. I got my InvisibleShieldHD protector back in early November when my N5 came in. The Zagg kiosk in my local mall had them. I definitely prefer the HD version over the regular one. Seems clearer and smoother. Never had a bubble, scratch, or peel issue. -Mike
  21. Me too! It's coming.. need to work on getting stable and reliable recognition of B26 and B41 first, then add on goodies like that after. -Mike
  22. You would probably be very surprised to see how much work your phone is doing when it's just sitting on your desk with the screen off.. if it had a noisy hard drive like the old-school computers, you'd be wondering what the heck it was doing. I was amazed when I started developing and saw how much activity there was on an "idle" phone.. not just what the radio is doing, but all the background processes that are constantly running around. By watching logcat for awhile, you can see how sloppy (or meticulous) some major developers are! -Mike
  23. Maybe you are just in a location that has so many awesome sites to choose from, your phone just can't decide which one it likes best.. In any case, it's not really anything to be concerned with, be thankful that you have so many sites within range to choose from; others are not so lucky. Mobile phones have been doing this since well before apps like this came along.. most of us just didn't notice it. -Mike
  24. Hmm, not that I'm aware of. Why do you think they are incorrect? Valid ranges for PCI is 0-503. I upgraded my EVO LTE to 4.3, but have not tested it on LTE yet. Hit About > Send Diagnostics if you see something you think might be off, that sends me technical data that might identify an issue. Or you can post a screenshot here, but the diagnostics provide me with more information. -Mike
  25. Shentel is a Sprint affiliate that provides network services in that area.. outside of Shentel territory, I believe it's just plain old Sprint for the rest of the country, I'm not sure if there are still any other Sprint affiliates around (Swiftel maybe?). Shentel has been completing Network Vision upgrades in their coverage area very quickly and efficiently, probably better than any other area of the country. I believe Shentel covers parts of PA, WV, MD, and VA. Ericsson had the nationwide contract for network maintenance for Sprint, but I think I recall reading that was ending and Sprint was returning to handling maintenance itself. The vendors handling the first phase of the nationwide NV project is geographically split between Samsung, Alcatel-Lucent, and Ericsson.. Baltimore is ALU territory for this: -Mike
