  1. Guys, the Snapdragon 600 (APQ8064T) is just a processor. This time last year, the hot chipset was the MSM8960, which is both processor and baseband modem. But the Snapdragon 600 has to use the separate MDM9615 baseband. So, the Snapdragon 600 has relatively little to do with talk time, since the screen is typically off, the processor mostly powered down during CDMA1X voice usage. AJ
  2. I agree it could be a live but barred LTE site. Or it could be a fault of the EVO LTE. I live in an area of basically 80 percent complete LTE deployment. Some days, the EVO LTE performs well. Some days, it falls flat on its face in the same locations. One possible pattern that I have noticed is when the EVO LTE struggles, RSRQ and SNR are unusually low. This could indicate that the EVO LTE is creating some sort of internal RF interference with itself or that its signal metrics go haywire occasionally, causing the EVO LTE to determine falsely that the LTE signal is unusable. AJ
  3. There is still angst, as Apple is still withholding band 4 W-CDMA 2100+1700 from the update. AJ
  4. Sprint has already deployed CDMA1X 800 on some sites in some markets. That will expand greatly after we reach the iDEN sunset in less than 90 days. CDMA1X/EV-DO 850, on the other hand, does not apply to Sprint native service and is for roaming purposes only. This kind of assessment is more art than science, but I would call a ~23 dBm EIRP for LTE 1900 good but not great. Yes, this kind of question comes up a lot. An FCC authorized lab tests only transmission; reception is of no concern. It tests and reports max transmitted power, spurious emissions, etc., to ensure that the authorized device operates below certain thresholds. Until we can use empirical observation of real world performance, the best that we can do to prejudge a device's RF proficiency is to look at its max ERP/EIRP, as that should provide some insight into the device's RF chain. But, again, it is an educated guess, not a definitive conclusion. AJ
  5. MetroPCS understands its core constituency -- and I say this not as a slight but as a statement of fact -- there are a disproportionate number of sub prime consumers in Florida. Thus, MetroPCS, as only a regional carrier, has been able to concentrate its efforts in Florida, arguably more so than anywhere else. As a truly national carrier, Sprint does not have that luxury. That said, this is why I have championed regional carriers that are able to narrow their deployments and better serve their respective areas. But many here cannot wait for the likes of MetroPCS, USCC, and Cricket to succumb to acquisition. AJ
  6. Chicago lost an icon today. Roger Ebert died at age 70, just days after announcing that his cancer had returned. AJ
  7. Just remember, Robert, if you see Christie Brinkley in a Ferrari, then have a chance to go skinny dipping, yes, it is "crazy," but you should "go for it"... AJ
  8. MetroPCS runs a fundamentally PCS 1900 MHz network in Florida that is roughly five years more mature than its exclusively AWS 2100+1700 MHz network in NYC. So, the disparity should come as little surprise. AJ
  9. Emma Lazarus? Emmental cheese? Emily Post? Emcee? Eminem? AJ
  10. I think you mean that Randall Stephenson is dook. AJ
  11. Hey, when digiblur mentioned hoses, plural, he provoked me. AJ
  12. That construction requirement applies to Dish's Lower 700 MHz E block 6 MHz (unpaired) licenses across the entire US (absent only the New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and San Francisco EAs). Because those licenses are unpaired spectrum, they are essentially worthless/useless right now. Expect Dish to throw up some high power broadcast sites for license protection for the time being. AJ
  13. Eh, I can easily pay that and may end up paying that, but it is not a "decent price." If the subsidy system were banished, the price would be under $400, as it should be, because competition would force the middlemen to take smaller than their currently well marbled cuts. AJ
  14. But you are not more than 50 miles from the Canadian border. Remember, it runs through the middle of Lake Erie, and Toledo is, at best, 40 miles from the international boundary. AJ
  15. There is no minimum donation -- absent any obviously token, low ball amount. But please know that the site is expensive to run and none of the staff are paid. AJ
  16. I see it from satellite view. It looks just like the giant cross in the Texas Panhandle. AJ
  17. Hmm, I do not recall the cross in Effingham. Is it along I-70? But I am familiar with some frickin' huge crosses in Edmond, OK along I-35 and Groom, TX along I-40. Robert may know the latter. AJ
  18. Have you ever heard the joke about the Mexican guy with two penises? Yeah, he named them Hose A and Hose B. AJ
  19. Really? Only $549? Wow, in that case, I'll take two. AJ
  20. By the way, I have figured out why St. Louis lags behind in Network Vision deployment. God is angry with you because you allowed Noah's Ark, a sacred artifact and one of the great I-70 roadside attractions, to be destroyed. AJ
  21. I, too, am curious, but my guess is about $600, which is patently ridiculous and reveals the farce in the subsidy system. AJ
