  1. Looks like the coverage map was updated again yesterday. The biggest thing that jumped out at me was a large addition in USCC LTE roaming on the west coast. Native coverage seems more or less the same.

They also finished off the rest of maine and NH with USCC LTE roaming.  I still do not understand why it took so long especially when the rest of northern and central maine had USCC LTE roaming for almost a year now.  Something different between the two areas?

  2. Nice. What about the Bangor Area?

Bangor is fine if you are literally right in the city and outskirts.  You will also have service right up 95 with no issues (voice and text, LTE sparse).  bangor has decent LTE.  Southern and central maine just started allowing US Celluar LTE roaming this past week while northern maine had it for almost a year now so you will be good in that regard.

  3. If I roll back to the older radio (pre 7.1.2), will LTE roaming still work on the N5X? The new update has made both Band 41 for Sprint and Band 17 for At&t a lot weaker.

What is your phone set to, to roam on AT&T? "Global" or "LTE"?  Better yet, what does is it set to if you go into the radio diagnostic menu?  if you use signal check and then click system shortcuts and then radio info.

  4. What was the basis for Günther's statement then? The "70%" number had to be based on something from Sprint's internal reports.

He was simply quite literal with his wording.  ""70% of our LTE sites have 2.5GHz..."  So, only the sites with LTE right now, 70% of THOSE have 2.5GHz.  That allows him to completely write off the many GMO sites that have nothing but 3G still at this point in time.

  5. Sending my Bolt back to HTC today to be fixed, under warranty if they can figure out what is wrong.  Any sort of long term use (5-10 minutes plus) causes it to get real hot and then eventually all cellular data ceases to function until I put it to sleep and let it sit and it cools down a bit.  This wasnt bad over the winter but now that it is warming up outside it is nothing but a hot paper weight.

If it wasnt for wifi calling, sprint zone (which is a non issue soon once they release it for all phones) and the premium caller id addon this would easily be the worst phone I have ever owned.

Techs on reddit recommended taking the device to a sprint store as this is a known issue among a long list of them but i do not have any repair centers close by enough where I want to gamble making the drive only to be told that there is no known problems.  I called sprint tech support and they said nothing is noted about the overheating problem.  I almost wish I had the well documented screen problem instead.

HTC was good about taking it back to fix but cautioned me that there could be a wait as they are waiting on parts for this device in their repair center, which should tell you something.  Felt so good to get back on to my Nexus 5X.

  6. How did you get it to work for free? When I open that app it says unsubscribed with a sub option for $2.99/mo.

I dont really know.  My plan add-ons show "premium caller id" with a price of $0.00.  With how slick it is, i would actually pay the $2.99.  Still wonder how it works.  maybe it is there way of keeping me from jumping to another carrier.  others get hot spot of 10 gigs...i get premium caller id lol

  7. anyone else have the premium caller id working for free on the bolt?  started within the last few days for me.  it is a pretty decent service and works even when not connected to LTE.

  8. I started playing with the premium caller ID feature that is available on the HTC bolt (and maybe others).  Surprisingly, it works even when not connected to LTE.  I had it successfully identify a call (full name and city and state)  even while on just 1x800 (no EVDO).  Anyone know how this works?  I believe it was thought that it needed to be connected to LTE for this information to come in fast enough to be displayed during an active, ringing call but this is obviously not the case.

  9. Does sprint usually increase the power level of band 26 if a customer reports through the sprint zone app?  I reported it in december to see if anything would happen and for the past week or two i can actually hold (heck, i can even touch it now) my phone while in my house and hold on to LTE (for the most part).  I also receive band 26 in spots in the house that i did not before.

It has been cold enough lately where the air hurts my face when i go outside so I sort of wonder if that is the cause but does warm versus cold air effect cell signal that much?

  10. You speaking of RoadRunner which was split off from Time Warner, and I'm in the Herndon area where Cox dominates.

Charter purchased the cable assets of Time Warner and Brighthouse.  Road runner was just a brand name for TWs high speed internet that they dropped a couple of years ago.  Charter has all of Time warners residential and business class cable and internet accounts and networks now.  Regardless, Charter also has a few spots in virginia that they have had all along.

  11. I live in Virginia and you will not see Charter here in the Commonwealth, it is mostly Comcast, Cox, Verizon Fios, maybe some AT&T here and there, but no Charter. So the question stands.

What?  Charter is in newport news, norfolk and portmouth and i think that is even before they have migrated over the newly purchased Time warner assets.  TW has stores in abingdon, herndon and richlands, va.  most cable companies do not put random stores into areas where there is no service.  they wouldnt get much foot traffic.

  12. Wouldn't you have to have simultaneous voice and data for these services to work? Or is Sprint checking the number on a network level before it rings your phone?

evidently not if sprint has this service working.  It is possible the appropriate info is being passed during call set up as the call rings (or maybe right before it) which is why i wonder if one needs to be on LTE for it to work.  If so, I am on eHRPD to much to be really valuable to me at this point in time.

  13. Sprint does have this, but it is only available on the Bolt right now.  I didnt bother to add it though but at least they say it is coming for more devices "soon"...plus it cosrts a bit extra, $2.99..dunno if it is any better than AT&Ts implementation.  I also wonder if it will work if you are not connected to LTE.

    EDIT-  http://newsroom.sprint.com/blogs/devices-apps-and-services/sprint-provides-protection-from-unwanted-robocalls-with-availability-of-premium-caller-id-find-out-how-it-works.htm

  14. Any proof of the 3rd carrier being in NY. Last I heard it wasn't

Didnt Sprint have a press event at One World a few weeks back to showcase 3xCA? Thats the only reason I specifically checked there as there was chatter that possibly it was only for sprint techs to access. I was interested in whether consumer devices could do it and since the Bolt is the only device out right now with it enabled it made sense for me to check.

I think the speeds are to high for it to be 2xCA right?
