  2. It was a basement, but the site is on the roof of the building. In my room, I can't seem to get above 43Mbps DL/18Mbps UL. However, I'm underneath the panels here. Maybe I should try the balcony? If that doesn't work, I'll walk a few blocks and get in front of the panels...unless I can get on the roof. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk
  3. Oh, wait? What? We were supposed to leave the kids? Damn! Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk
  4. We got severely delayed by a car accident/construction mess in Colorado Springs. We are checked into the hotel and my wife and I are even have a drink together for the first time in years. Down in the basement lounge here I'm still getting a respectable TD-LTE 2600 signal and good speeds. More testing later...in the morning. Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  5. I'm off for a grand trip to Denver. And away we go! Special thanks to AJ, sbolen, Nickel, nulldagger, thewezgrays, newboyx, tongboy, dkoellerwx and squigey who made contributions to help cover expenses. We have made enough to cover gas, there and back. If you still want to help contribute for the gas driving around Denver checking out TD-LTE sites, the hotel costs or even my fried chicken addiction, you can still make a donation! Just click on the Donate button at the top of the forums and enter Denver in the notes section. Thanks! Note that all donations made toward the Denver trip will be added to your S4GRU account and will count toward your Premier Status upgrades. Or possible future added levels. Robert
  6. I upgraded you a little while ago after I woke up. Thanks for supporting S4GRU. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk
  7. Triband smartphones are launching late 3rd Quarter, not late 4th Quarter. That poster is either mistaken or typo'd. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk

  9. Microwave is not really cheaper. It depends on how close fiber is to the site. Microwave has more up front equipment costs. You pretty much only want to use microwave for sites where you cannot get fiber or fiber backed AAV reasonably. Sometimes it makes sense. For instance, with Clearwire WiMax, microwave was a good solution. Each site only needed 8-12Mbps speeds. So if you have 8 sites connected to a 100Mbps connection, all is good. However, Sprint Network Vision that will not be a good solution with triband LTE where the carriers will be well burdened. It would be fine for low capacity sites, like the GMO sites. But high capacity sites will need an ample fiber connection. Your doom and gloom perspective is just not warranted. If a site gets set up with triband and is fed by AAV or microwave and it turns out to not be enough...do you think that's the end of the road? Sprint is not the company it was. It is now owned by SoftBank...deep pockets and high expectations. The new network is going to be monitored. If a site starts to underperform, its going to be corrected. Also, do not forget that Sprint has scalable backhaul contracts. If they have a 100Mbps connection at a site from Cox cable, and they now need 200, they just call Cox. Cox comes out within 30 days and adds more. Most of these AAV vendors have fiber backed connections. Adding more capacity at these sites is not difficult in most situations. And at a microwave site, they just need to add backhaul capacity at the single donor site, and all the connected sites get a speed boost. This is all good news here. 10. By whom?? Network Vision sites are approximately 80% Fiber/AAV and 20% Microwave. Of those that are AAV, most are fiber fed and just the final connection is by a 3rd Party vendor. Like a cable company. The 38,000 Sprint sites is the entire network. Many sites, like mountaintop sites, or remote highway sites, it makes more sense to go microwave. Seeing how microwave can support 1-3Gbps and you can set up several links side by side if you need more, then what's the big fat hairy deal about microwave backhaul? Nothing. That's what. 11. I received donations from you and AJ. Thank you very much! I guess no one else wants to sponsor Robert's Big Denver TD-LTE Adventure. Robert EDIT: Also thanks to Nickel, nulldagger, thewezgrays, newboyx, tongboy, dkoellerwx and squigey
  12. Not one peep, other than rumors. Seems plausible though. We know Samsung is going to make TD-LTE 2600 devices this Fall. To include Sprint's other two bands with it seems like an easy order. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk
  13. Two sites were accepted in the Springs. We have exact locations posted in the Sponsor section. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk

  15. Yes indeed, you got me. I misread your post. Not the first mistake I made today! Robert
  16. I have gotten 50-60Mbps on USB 2.0 before, no problem tethering my VZW hotspot. I just hit 34Mbps this morning testing it out. Robert
  17. The main 'synergy' with Sprint and SoftBank is to get more hardware/smartphone OEM's to support TD-LTE 2600. Other than that, under the current structures of both companies, there is not much synergy between Sprint and SoftBank. But as they make Sprint organized more and more like SoftBank, that may change. 18. This, coupled with the new Sprint press release today makes no mention of triband, I think it's definitely safe to assume that the new MotoX may be the last Sprint smartphone of significance to be single LTE band. Not an honorable distinction. What bad timing for Motorola on the Now network. Robert via Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 using Tapatalk
  19. It's too bad it's not triband. Pass! Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  20. Thanks for the donation. I will add it to the "Denver or Bust Fund." Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  21. It did for me. On my VZW hotspot, it didn't. But it wouldn't work on my Netgear Triband hotspot when it did the auto install when I plugged it in. I had to go to the Netgear website download and install those drivers...and, voila! Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
  22. I think you still may be missing my point. I have turned the WiFi off on my hotspot and directly tethering my laptop to my hotspot via USB, so there is no WiFi interface at all. It's a direct connection. When I do this with my VZW hotspot, I can sometimes hit 50Mbps at off peak times. So this should allow me to exceed 35Mbps WiFi max I am hitting, as now my computer is directly connected to the hotspot's radios. Robert
  23. My biggest reason for returning is to try my hotspot USB tethered to my laptop from a high speed TD-LTE site. See if it will exceed the 35Mbps and by how much. Robert
  24. It's official. I'm heading back to Denver tomorrow afternoon. I booked a room at the Renaissance hotel directly under the fastest TD-LTE 2600 site I encountered. Robert
  25. If we're being technical, and let's face it, we always are... It's a GMC Suburban. Robert
