  1. I wonder if this will include the *2* towers serving the area where I live (off I-75 North of Knoxville--postal codes 37766 and 37757). I saw another post where work was underway in Knoxville.. I still have little hope for our isolated Sprint towers.

Knoxville is supposed to be at least in a prelaunch phase of LTE deployed before the end of the year according to the latest from Sprint. We shall see.

  2. Hi, guys. Have a question. My fiance just got a Sprint iPhone5. We live in center city and the 3G speeds are borderline unbearable. What kind of speeds can we expect when the LTE is up and running?

LTE performance is very signal strength dependent, no matter which LTE carrier you are using. If you have a strong Sprint LTE signal, peak speeds of 25-37Mbps are common. Moderate signals will produce 10-15 Mbps, and weaker LTE signals will still produce 2-10Mbps.

  3. I have been keeping an eye out for LTE sites, and have not seen any coverage yet in Indy. I have an SGS III and an iPhone 5 that are with me most of the day. I am out and about a good bit and frequent the following suburbs:NoblesvilleFishersWestfieldCarmelAvonI check back in here with an update if I see any coverage in any of these areas.(also, how do I go about getting access to the password protected portions of the site)Bill

Most likely those sites have been accepted by Sprint from the OEM's and now are being blocked. You need to become a S4GRU Sponsor to access the Sponsor sections of our site. 4. Any update on LTE in Orange County? I purchased SG3 yesterday and I love the phone, but I hate Sprint's 3G speed. sprint's 3G is horrible during the day. I've been getting 100~300 kbps in the morning, but at night it gets super fast, 2Mbps........

It looks like they are starting a little behind schedule. Activity should start before the end of the month, though.

  5. Now if you deploy like Sprint and have a RRU, I would think that coverage on VoLTE would equal CDMA 2000 on the same spectrum without a RRU.

Based on our observations, both Sprint LTE and Verizon LTE is unusable with a weaker signal than -95dBm RSSI. That's a full 10dBm less than 1x will do from the same site. That is a lot of lost square mileage of coverage in rural areas.

  6. Robert,Do you think once Sprint will activate the network once work is finished in Phoenix (since they are beginning in Winter)?Or, do you think they will build early and just deploy with the first 3rd round markets?Thank you.

I think they will start work right after the first of the year. Once they have enough coverage for pre launch, then I think they will start turning on sections of the city. I think the earliest we will see a prelaunch in this market is February/March.

  7. Will it be posted here when work begins in Riverside County? Just knowing they have begun turning nuts and bolts will be encouraging! :)

If so, it will be in the comments. The best place to monitor market activity is in our forums. We have over 5,000 members in all 97 markets constantly watching sites and uploading data. Also, in our Sponsor section, we have interactive maps that show all the sites converted. It gets updated every week. 8. I can confirm, NV Towers are active in the Center City West & University City Area.My network type is listed eHRPD now .vs EVDO Rev A.

eHRPD is not deployed on only Network Vision sites. It has to be deployed on any site adjacent to them to for handoff purposes. The appearing of eHRPD is a good sign for the future, but having eHRPD does not mean that the specific site you are connected to has been converted. eHRPD is just a software upgrade and very easy to install.

Thanks for the notification of eHRPD in your area. :tu:

  9. Hey Robert,I've been lurking on the site for a while now, mostly for 4G updates and I had a brief question. I currently have an HTC Evo 4G and my Wife has an VERY old HTC Hero. We're in Jacksonville, FL and I've been holding us both off from getting new phones (Evo LTE's) until we finally have LTE coverage since I can just use my WiMax coverage for the time being. Given the current circumstances, would you say it's a good bet to go ahead and get our new phones in October or are we probably looking closer to Jan 2013 before we have LTE coverage in Jax, FL?Sorry to ask as I know most everyone else is asking as well but thanks in advance :)

This list includes cities that Sprint is trying to get a launchable amount of service before the end of the year. So Jacksonville should have fair LTE coverage by December 31st. If you are dependent on WiMax, you either should wait to upgrade, or get a WiMax hotspot to keep with you when 3G data gets really bad.

  10. a lot of towers now have a sprint LTE antennas installed but i can't tell which ones are turned on. i've been to 4-5 confirmed sprint tower sites in the area whenever i get the 4g icon on my galaxy S3 and flip to phone settings to read the signal asu but it's always very weak. doesn't make any sense. either these towers aren't putting out a very good signal , or this phone is ver sensitive and switches to 4g when it sniffs a blip of lte. no one has an explaination for this, they just think i'm crazy. i drive 100+ miles every day as part of my job, i know austin well. there's almost 1 million people here. cell towers are like starbucks, there are 2 on every corner :) by looking at the sensorly map and my knowledge of the hills, bridges and over passes in austin i'd say the signal i'm getting is coming from ben white/lamar area. there is a tower at ben white and frontier trail and another behind matts el rancho. there's a new tower at a construction site across from reds porch. i couldn't get access to even read the fcc registration #.

You want to look at RSRP in the LTE Engineering screen under the Debug menu to determine your LTE signal strength. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2040-bars-lie-for-lte-signal-strength-how-to-determine-your-actual-lte-signal-strength/

  11. Why is it always a tower ghost town around Olive Branch, MS? I read that Century Link is a major Sprint backhaul provider and Century Link is the LEC in Olive Branch, yet the signal and speeds are terrible. In 2011 Olive Branch was even ranked as the fastest growing city in America.

The backhaul Sprint used on legacy sites were T1 lines. Even from CenturyLink. T1 lines are insufficient backhaul for 3G/4G networks nowadays. Sprint is changing out backhaul to much faster backhaul providers in their Network Vision upgrades.

When sites in Olive Branch start getting upgraded to Network Vision in the next few months, you will start seeing dramatic improvements.

  12. RobertWhat about Greenville sc / upstate sc for vision update and LTE? Lancaster sc is a very small market I thought? Thanks for all your information.

Lancaster is a part of the Charlotte market and is being upgraded with all the communities in that market. The Upstate part of SC is in the South Carolina market and will be upgraded with all the communities in that market. The SC market will begin deployment some time in 2013. Final scheduling of 2013 markets will be completed this Fall.

  13. Yea getting 4G would be amazing. So where is the tower? By Humana bulding I assume You mean the Corperate tower. I work for the but Waterside building.I hope this happens. I am sick of being a joke on a budget phone plan with sub standard service. We are in a major town with Sprint's major wharehouse and distribution because UPS main hub and corp is here. Shaeking my head.

The two sites live in Louisville are 4G WiMax sites, not 4G LTE sites. They are shown in the Map I posted in the comments above.

Sprint will begin LTE deployment in the West Kentucky market this Winter. This will include Louisville.

  14. Anyone have info on Tallahassee Market? I dont use sprint but for the last 5 years my friends have complained of terrible service calls/txt and .001 data speeds.

Tallahassee is in Sprint's Panhandle market. Work will not begin in this market until some time in 2013. Final scheduling for 2013 markets will not be completed until later this Fall.

  15. Well with the latest 100 city news for 2nd round doesnt look good for phoenix. If anyone hears about phoenix lined up of 3rd round please let me know. I cant believe citys with populations of 12,000 are getting it and phoenix population almost 2 million??? doesnt make any sense, any comments..?? sprint sure isnt rolling it out based on population size.

Sprint has the country broken down into 97 markets. Here is a market map: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/gallery/image/156-nationwide-sprint-market-map-medium/

Sprint is deploying LTE nationwide, market by market, while they are doing Network Vision upgrades in every market. So it is not as if Sprint is selecting smaller cities ahead of Phoenix. It's just that the smaller cities are located in much larger master markets that are being completed before Pheonix. Places like LA, Chicago, New York, Miami, etc.

I would have preferred Phoenix to be one of the first markets, myself. I live in New Mexico and travel often to Phoenix. However, Phoenix deployment should begin in just a few more months. Some time this Winter.

  16. anything new with Charlotte rollout? Those on Sprint in Charlotte, how is the 3G data and voice quality in Charlotte? Trying to decide if I'll make the switch to Sprint.

We have had members confirm finding deployment work starting at several sites in the Charlotte area and up in Salisbury. Although it started a few weeks late, it is now under way.
