  1. Hi Robert. Hope you had a great Christmas. Just wandering if there is any update on LTE. The last posting is from 10/24/12. I have been waiting patiently for LTE to come to the OC before upgrading to the Note 2 (currently on EVO 3D). I am trying to hold out to see how it goes, but I am just about ready to switch to Verizon as our coverage gotten worse and worse....to a point that I am not getting much more than 200kbps down(3G as Wimax is so hit and miss to get coverage) for data and we are dropping more and more calls everyday! Been with Sprint for almost 20 years now and would like to stay, but it is getting harder and harder each day.... :) Any updated is appreciated. Thanks.

Deployment started in the beginning of December. It will likely be another 45-60 days before the first sites start to go live with LTE. Once they start going live, more and more will go live weekly until the whole county is complete.

  2. A question for you Robert. They are currently deploying LTE in Nashville but I cannot figure out the pattern of the deployment. I see areas that are going live now that are very not heavily populated outside of Nashville. But Nashville proper (which looked promising to be covered quickly at the start at the deployment) has seen the progress slow dramatically. Can you offer some commentary on the thought process of the deployment? How towers are selected to be upgraded next, etc...?

There is no pattern to deployment. They have subcontractors chomping at the bit, ready to go. They jump on the very next site ready, no matter where it is. Before they can begin upgrading a site, the site has to have backhaul complete and ready, equipment delivered and permits obtained. The second everything is ready at a site, the subcontractors are dispatched to start work...no matter where in the market it is.

It's better to keep those guys working than to make them wait for a more choice site to come open. Also, permit requirements are much less in rural areas (if at all). Sometimes this also attributes to more rural locations getting upgraded first.

  3. Getting tired of waiting for LTE to start in Hawaii.... May need to leave for greener pastures until Sprint gets its act together....

Get its act together? Because they cannot deploy LTE in all markets at once, they do not have their act together? At S4GRU, we do not allow comments like these to go unresponded to. We are not Engadget.

There has to be a deployment order. And Sprint is planning to be largely done by the end of 2013, including Hawaii. And until they get to Hawaii in a few months, at least there is a WiMax network to use.

If Sprint doesn't meet your needs, that is fine. You have to do what is the best for your circumstances. But the mere fact that Sprint has not started in Hawaii yet does not signal failure. Sprint was the first to deploy 4G in Hawaii, and it will not be the last to deploy LTE.

  4. Has there been any recent 3G upgrades in Roseville,mi I always have to use wifi because its just slow for anything but at my moms in Westland,mi it's way faster

We are still waiting for anything official out of Michigan, but they are definitely behind schedule in this market. We have had anecdotal reports from members who have seen recent activity at some Sprint sites, though.

  5. Does ANYONE know if anything will ever start in Arizona? Tucson ???this says everywhere in 2013, so does that mean that every town will have upgrades starting in January?

The Tucson/Yuma market is supposed start this Winter. We have not seen any more specific dates than this at this time.

  6. how bout you work on the ones your falling behind on? huh? just received NV 3G upgrades on the sprint tower a couple hundred yards away from my school and they're still mediocre.

You? You must be confused. We are not Sprint. Please stop with these comments. They are not productive and show you do not understand the complexities of the Network Vision deployment. There are three OEMs and dozens of regional subcontractors handling the deployment. They cannot pull off a regional subcontractor in Puerto Rico or Oklahoma to work on your market. It doesn't work that way.

  7. I find it odd that they are spreading out the Ericsson guys in Louisiana when they already have plenty of catching up to do.Kudos to getting a market jump though!

It is either because they have a separate subcontractor base there for that market, or because they are running into road blocks in the NOLA market that is slowing them down and they want crews to keep busy. I believe it is the former than the latter.

  8. Any word about LTE in the Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg areas in FL?

We have threads about the Tampa Bay in our forums, where we have a very active member set chasing down all the activity. If you want to know the latest, I suggest checking out that page: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/2176-network-visionlte-tampa-market/page__st__1320

  9. On that topic... Robert do you think the Southern market for CT as Sprint calls it, follows what you posted in the fall where Southern CT was geographically the western part of CT incl both north and south?) or only the cities called out? again awesome forum and great folks!

The market boundaries do. However, AlcaLu is doing the deployment in both markets, most likely with the same subcontractors. So if a site is ready to be worked on across the border in the N CT market, they will likely jump on it.

  10. Were you in one of the coverage areas shown on this map: http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/Sprint/lte_310sprint#q=york,pennsylvania ?

Did you try rebooting your iPhone? Our members have cataloged a lot of coverage in York, especially on the north side. However, it may not be in all corners of the city, yet. This articles discusses the first 125 Shentel LTE sites, not necessarily ubiquitous coverage in any specific area.

  11. My brother told me after calling and speaing to a sprint rep that 4g lte was begining to be turned on in the twin cities area??? Can this be confirmed? Also my 3g is being dropped and turned back on time to time like the gentleman above although I dont need to switch from airplane mode to get it back it just seems liek its going off and on periodically??? Any insight? Thanks!Aaron

Sprint accepted the first eight LTE sites from Samsung last week, and they started to go live this week. It will be a slow steady deployment, with an additional 5-15 sites going live every week all over the Minnesota market.

  12. Any idea if the city of Northfield will have 4G coverage? It's hard to tell on the map shown. We currently use Virgin Mobile and the coverage isn't all that great. Will Sprints 4G network be available to its VM customers? Thanks for any info you can provide. Was tossing around the idea of getting a family plan through Sprint but only if coverage is going to improve here.

Northfield will get Sprint 4G LTE coverage. However, as of now Virgin Mobile 4G only runs on 4G WiMax. Sprint stopped expanding WiMax coverage back in 2011 when they switched to LTE for its 4G technology. There will be no additional 4G WiMax coverage added, in Northfield, or anywhere.

Eventually, Virgin Mobile will start adding LTE devices to its lineup. But I have no idea about timing. But if you want to LTE when it starts to go live in Northfield, you will likely need to become a Sprint customer.
