Sprint pulling plug on all iDEN retail products on Apr 15th?

According to Mark Hearn from Technobuffalo from a source that Sprint plans to yank all iDEN retail products from its shelves on April 15th. I think this is a good step in the right direction. Now anyone who needs PTT capability will be forced to use the Sprint Direct Connect service and hopefully the Direct Connect CDMA service can start taking off for those iDEN customers.

Can no longer put iDEN devices on Seasonal Standby.

 

International PTT begins soon for Sprint Direct Connect.

 

On 4/01, Most iDEN customers had their upgrade eligibility reset so they could get a Sprint phone.

 

Special pricing for lots of phones for iDEN customers from 04/05 and 06/30... Epic Touch $50 or get a one of the following for a dollar: Evo 3D, MOTO Admiral, or Kyocera Duramax, Duracore, or Duraplus.

Thanks for the info Duff. I am not surprised at this announcement. We all knew it was coming. I guess i wonder what they will do with all the leftover phones though.

That's a good question. The strange thing is that Sprint hasn't mentioned Boost.

I would think that Boost Mobile customers should be alerted as well. Maybe there are not as many Boost iDEN customers so they don't need to pull the plug on them yet. Also Sprint will need to provide them some Direct Connect phones for Boost. I am not sure if Sprint plans to offer the same Direct Connect phones to Boost Mobile as they do on Sprint. I am sure Sprint is working together with Boost on this transition and I expect an announcement hopefully by mid year.

Boost already got alerted about the shutdown a few weeks ago.

I would highly doubt Sprint would do ppt to boost again, if they do they should charge at least $10 extra for it.

I wonder what Sprint is going to do with Boost then. Just shut down the stores and encourage all Boost customers to sign up with Sprint and go postpaid for SDC? If so I am totally fine with that. I wonder if Sprint is planning to charge the $10 premium for the SDC customers..I hope so since it will help Sprint a lot. At the end of the day, I just want Sprint to rid themselves of any remnants of iDEN all together.

I think sprint will leave boost cdma the same as it is now.

 

If they offer ppt to boost it will devalue the service completely.

 

I think sprint charges a $5 premium for it now.

Has anyone swung by a Sprint store to confirm if they have yanked the iDEN products from their shelves? According to the article this should have happened this past sunday, 4/15.

      You could also just sign up for Project Genesis directly, $400 for the moto edge+ 2023 and $25/month for service.

      Your referring to the $25.00 a month Infinite Unlimited plan?  I don't see any other plans on there even cheaper than that on their website.  I was looking at the Motorola 2023 Edge fwiw as well for $10.00 a month.

      A heavy n41 overlay as an acquisition condition would be a win for customers, and eventually a win for T-Mobile as that might be enough to preclude VZW/AT&T adding C-Band for FWA due to spreading the market too thinly (which means T-Mobile would just have local WISPs/wireline ISPs as competition). USCC spacing (which is likely for contiguous 700 MHz LTE coverage in rural areas) isn't going to be enough for contiguous n41 anyway, and I doubt they'll densify enough to get there.

      Boost Infinite with a rainbow SIM (you can get it SIM-only) is the cheapest way, at $25/mo, to my knowledge; the cheaper Boost Mobile plans don't run on Dish native. Check Phonescoop for n70 support on a given phone; the Moto G 5G from last year may be the cheapest unlocked phone with n70 though data speeds aren't as good as something with an X70 or better modem.

      Continuing the USCC discussion, if T-Mobile does a full equipment swap at all of USCC's sites, which they probably will for vendor consistency, and if they include 2.5 on all of those sites, which they probably will as they definitely have economies of scale on the base stations, that'll represent a massive capacity increase in those areas over what USCC had, and maybe a coverage increase since n71 will get deployed everywhere and B71 will get deployed any time T-Mobile has at least 25x25, and maybe where they have 20x20. Assuming this deal goes through (I'm betting it does), I figure I'll see contiguous coverage in the area of southern IL where I was attempting to roam on USCC the last time I was there, though it might be late next year before that switchover happens.
