GIFT ACCOUNT/SCHOLARSHIP ACCOUNT

S4GRU

Recommended Posts

As it is said, it is the most wonderful time of the year!  And for many S4GRU Members, it's also the leanest time of the year.  Bills and holiday presents...expensive heating bills with an early winter onset.  We have 22,000+ members, and some of them just cannot afford to renew their memberships.  It is now becoming almost a daily occurrence.

Some of you are aware that S4GRU maintains a gift account/scholarship account.  When a member cannot afford to renew or upgrade, we draw from this account to help others in need.  It seems like this year we have had more people down on their luck than normal, and our scholarship account is nearly depleted.  We use this to fund not only people down on their luck, but also the many budding teenage wireless enthusiasts around our site and those who borrow a few bucks to upgrade but then pay it back.

If you are able to contribute to help others this time of year to maintain their S4GRU accounts and keep receiving timely update information, please make a contribution to the S4GRU PayPal account.  Please reference in the notes section GIFT ACCOUNT.  Once your donation is logged, you will receive a message that your donation has been added to the scholarship account.  And when your donation is used for a worthy member in the future, you will receive a message about the details for whom and how it was used.

One of the great things about gift donations, is that both the giver and the recipient get credit for the donation for future Premier and Honored Premier upgrades.  It's a gift that keeps on giving!  And several of our members who have received gifts in the past have turned around and become very generous givers when their finances have turned around.  I am always amazed at how generous our members can be.

And truth be told, S4GRU benefits from this as well.  Not only is it the leanest time of year for our members, it's the leanest time of year for S4GRU as well.  Promotions are the only things that really keep the donations coming in October - January.  So help support your fellow S4GRU members down on their luck and S4GRU too.  Be sure to list GIFT ACCOUNT in the notes of your PayPal donation or send a message to S4GRU after completing your donation.

Thank you for considering a donation to the S4GRU Gift/Scholarship Account.

We had a very generous donater this evening already fund half of the goal.  We should be able to wrap this up quickly if you all are able to fund the other half.  I am still stunned by the generosity of our members and staff.

We prefer to get gift donations in $20-$25 increments.  That way they are easy to meter out to beneficiaries.  But we will take any amount, if you are not able to do the full $20.  Because we can lump a few gift donations together, if needed.  Thanks again!

I really appreciate all that have given so far.  I'm hoping we can get the last of the gift donations tonight and I can close up this thread.  If you thought about giving toward this worthy goal, let today be the day!  Thank you for considering a donation to the gift/scholarship account.

Thank you to all who have donated to the gift account.  We have already been using it.  Some of you have already received noticies how your donation has been used.  Thank you for your generous giving.  I would like to re-raise the amount we have donated so far and the amount we were short before interest in donating in the gift account died suddenly earlier this week.

If we can raise another $150 - $200, I will close this thread for the season.  Please help donate to support your fellow members in need and S4GRU.

Remember, when you donate to the Gift/Scholarship Account, both you and the recipient get credit towards upgrades.  Click here to donate:  https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=CED5R2HV4HMBY

    • In the conference call they had two question on additional spectrum. One was the 800 spectrum. They are not certain what will happen, thus have not really put it into their plans either way (sale or no sale). The do have a reserve level. It is seen as great for new technologies which I presume is IOT or 5g slices.  They did not bite on use of their c-band or DOD.  mmWave rapidly approaching deadlines not mentioned at all. FWA brushes on this as it deals with underutilized spectrum on a sector by sector basis.  They are willing to take more money to allow FWA to be mobile (think RV or camping). Unsure if this represents a higher priority, for example, RVs in Walmart parking lots where mobile needs all the capacity. In terms of FWA capacity, their offload strategy is fiber through joint ventures where T-Mobile does the marketing, sales, and customer support while the fiber company does the network planning and installation.  50%-50% financial split not being consolidated into their books. I think discussion of other spectrum would have diluted the fiber joint venture discussion. They do have a fund which one use is to purchase new spectrum. Sale of the 800Mhz would go into this. It should be noted that they continue to buy 2.5Ghz spectrum from schools etc to replace leases. They will have a conference this fall  to update their overall strategies. Other notes from the call are 75% of the phones on the network are 5g. About 85% of their sites have n41, n25, and n71. 93% of traffic is on midband.  SA is also adding to their performance advantage, which they figure is still ahead of other carriers by two years. It took two weeks to put the auction 108 spectrum to use at their existing sites. Mention was also made that their site spacing was designed for midrange thus no gaps in n41 coverage, while competitors was designed for lowband thus toggles back and forth for n77.
    • The manual network selection sounds like it isn't always scanning NR, hence Dish not showing up. Your easiest way to force Dish is going to be forcing the phone into NR-only mode (*#*#4636#*#* menu?), since rainbow sims don't support SA on T-Mobile.
    • "The company’s unique multi-layer approach to 5G, with dedicated standalone 5G deployed nationwide across 600MHz, 1.9GHz, and 2.5GHz delivers customers a consistently strong experience, with 85% of 5G traffic on sites with all three spectrum bands deployed." Meanwhile they are very close to a construction deadline in June for 850Mhz of mmWave in most of Ohio iirc. No reported sightings.

They're completely avoiding talking about mmWave.
    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
