Cheaper Tablets...

No Google Play access is a gigantic deal breaker for any Android device imho.

I agree.. I wonder if they are concerned that once it gets loaded down with app's the performance will be so degraded nobody will like it anymore.. even at that price.

I'm hoping that the rumored specs and price on the Nexus tab are true... would be a steal.

I thought it had something to do with hassling with Google. AFAIK, you can load both Google Play and/or Amazon Market after you purchase the phone.

I think it has to do with the framework used from Android. If you dont use the complete framework base then you can't have Google Play access nor the core Google Apps like Gmail, maps, and such. Like the Kindle Fire for example...

So is it a simple fix as in just installing the google play apk or is it more than that?

Depends on the OS and if everything is there to support it.

For example here is a write up on how some did it on the kindle fire

http://www.pcworld.c...indle_fire.html

But from looking at the video of the tablet it looks like its running straight ICS not some big stripped version of Android like others are running, so it could be as easy as just installing it...

Well if this can be done with these tablets, this may actually be a decent deal. I don't have any kids but if I did, I would be getting them something like this instead of dropping $500 on an ipad or whatever high end android tablet.

I can't see myself buying a Coby. The Nexus tablet, I might. It is nice that they are coming with ICS from the factory, but I bet with something like this, you would never see a MFG update or ROM for a future version of Android.

Well you never know, this thing could be very root friendly and could become the htc hd 2 of the tablet world where you can run just about anything on it.
