Broken Nexus 7 Screen

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up if you try to fix a broken Nexus 7 display for yourself or a friend. Make sure you guys purchase the replacement screen that INCLUDES the LCD. I purchased just the digitizer/screen from an eBay seller without realizing that the tablet's LCD is permanently fused to the digitizer/screen. Of course the eBay seller doesn't offer refunds, presumable with full knowledge that the digitizer is useless without the LCD.

Now I am going to be out $130 + the cost of a new Nexus for my girlfriend.... Ughhhhhhhh

Devices look nice naked but I keep them dressed in an otterbox. ;) pays for itself in one drop.

I don't drop my stuff so I don't worry about that. My girlfriend dropped hers on its face, with a case on, and shatter the screen breaking the digitizer. No doubts I could fix it, but got so wrapped up in buying a screen replacement that I didn't thinking of the LCD. I some people have managed to get it off with a hair dryer, but too many have tried and failed for me to be confident in doing that.

Did the sellers listing say NO LCD included?

Do you have any proof of the sellers "full knowledge?"

Before buying did you research what exactly you needed to buy?

No the seller did not mention that no lcd was included and I did indeed know exactly what I needed to buy. Fortunately we worked it out and a replacement with an lcd is on the way.

Just wanted to inform others so they can be more careful than I was.

How easy was it to replace?  I just cracked mine.  One of the disadvantages of having a house with tile everywhere.  The case could not save it in this instance.  :(

Now I have to decide to fix this one, buy a Samsung Note 8.1 or wait for the Nexus 7+.

It is painful. The housing that covers the glass is glued to it. You'll need some kind of scraper and a heat source to separate the glass from the housing.

Sorry Robert I actually just saw this.  If you buy the screen that comes with the digitizer attached (about $10 more) then it is actually a quick 10 minute fix, after getting the old glass off.  Comes off fairly easily with a hair dryer and something to scrap it with.  Been working great since.

I used a hair dryer and it got it hot enough that mine came off rather easily.  What were you heating it with?

Those of you with a nexus 7/10, have you seen the little grey dot in the top left side of the notification bar? I can't seem to find any articles on what it is or what the device is doing. Any clues?

I see it when I take a screenshot. No idea why though.

I also see it on the TF300t since the update to 4.22

hmmmmmmm. I have done some research but it is only forums with people throwing guesses that are way off such as GPS. I personally only see it when I stream videos like youtube or with chrome on sites that are supported.
