Galaxy Nexus reception on lte?

Hi guys,

 

I have the EVO lte and don't really want to pay an etf due to my poor service. So I was looking at possibly buying a GNexus off of Craigslist. Then using it till a better phone comes out.

 

I have read of some reception problems with the Verizon version but can't seem to find much about the Sprint variant.

 

So would I just be moving from one reception issue to another?

I didn't have any LTE reception issues with the GNex. But it is one of the weakest 1x/EVDO performers I've ever used. And I frequently had 3G handshake issues.

 

But if I mostly used LTE data, it wouldn't be so bad. But since I spend a lot of time in rural weak signal areas, the GNex drove me bonkers when I would see it side by side with my other Sprint devices.

This ^^^. The galaxy nexus is horrible with 3g/1x. Which also sucks battery like crazy, while searching for a better signal. However, when going into areas that have solid 3G coverage, the phone preform similarly to other sprint phones. Just beware if you're using it in a rural area.

I love my S3 and concur.

 

S3 may cost you a little bit but you might get lucky and be able to straight trade on CL.

 

I would say it's worth the cost of upgrading especially for enthusiasts. If you have a family member who isn't big into into this stuff like we are and has yet to use their upgrade you could pick up a note 2 or S3 then give them the evo.

This is actually exactly how I feel about the S3. It was testing the same, but felt so much better.

So its safe to say the S3 would be my best choice for a replacement? I am not a fan of Samsung and defiantly not a fan of touch-wiz but I guess I could always put a rom on it. I'm going to go talk to Sprint one more time before I shell out any money. Fingers crossed.

At long last Sprint offered to trade my Evo for the GS3. So far other them the navigation/home buttons I really like it. It will take some time to get used to it but I do feel like its a slight upgrade.

That is just so bizarre. I just want to know the cause. It blows my mind. I feel like the guy who's head explodes in the Samsung commercial because the new iPhone headphone jack is on the bottom. KA-POW!

It is weird, like I said the Puerto Rico Market thread, when I was at the luis munoz marin(san juan) airport yesterday my evo connected effortlessly and maintained an lte signal that was barely usable. I checked the signal strength and it was no stronger than maybe -126 at best.

Maybe it is because I switch to a Galaxy Nexus from an Epic 4G, but the Nexus is definitely holding a Sprint signal more than the Epic ever did. I'm roaming quite a bit less. But then again, I have heard that the Epic 4G had a very poor radio.

      Was in Red Hook again and I swear there are more Link5G sites as there are Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T small cells combined in the entire neighborhood. It seemed like every other street I turned down had one installed. Hopefully carriers will start hopping on them soon. Seems like a lot of effort to go through for no one to use them.  — — — — — T-Mobile converted the Sprint site on top of NYU Langone Brooklyn in Sunset Park. I first mapped one sector of it back in November 2023 but I thought it was a small cell so I never pinned it but I ran into another sector today which caught me off guard. I'm unable to find a permit for the conversion so it's definitely a surprise. There's another T-Mobile site 1 block away that T-Mobile initially installed back in 2019 so I'm kinda surprised they're keeping both considering the Sprint conversion is on a much taller building and coule potentially provide much better coverage to the entire area.  — — — — — The old permit expired for this site without any work being done but a new permit was just approved a few days ago for a T-Mobile site at this address. Description mentions 3 antennas with 2 RRUs per sector. My guess is they're doing something similar to what they did at 360 Furman St in Brooklyn where they broadcast Band 2/66 and n25/41 from one antenna. It's a bit of a downgrade considering the site it's replacing was a full build with Ericsson 6449s.

      Came across another Crown Castle Solutions multi-tenant oDAS node in Brooklyn. Located at 40.7002286, -73.9612666. Nothing on T-Mobile or AT&T so I'm assuming these are all Verizon nodes that Crown Castle is anticipating another carrier will hop on down the line.
