Got a software update this morning. Sprint boot/power-off logo is gone. Security patch level is now June. Not noticing any other differences yet.

Yeah it was some minor camera fixes but yeah no more Sprint logo.

Got a text today that "Sprint has joined T-Mobile. You now have access to expanded coverage on the T-Mobile Network!  Also enjoy simultaneous talk and data - no action required by you"

Are we supposed to get actual Data while using voice?  Or do we have to switch on VOLTE calls under settings?

I see T-Mobile LTE bands, but no data available while making a call.  Thanks all!

VoLTE needs to be enabled yes.

On T-Mobile's there is no VoLTE icon because it's turned on by default. T-Mobile must be making this change on all compatible devices regardless of network. On my S20 Ultra, there isn't even an option to turn VoLTE on or off on T-Mobile. The only way I can use 3G or 2G for calls is by turning off LTE altogether.

Yeah I'm sure the option will go away completely once we get an official software update to turn our phones into T-Mobile branded ones.

Apple may have bought out Intel’s wireless division with the goal of building their own modems but Qualcomm is still the undisputed king. Apple and Samsung know it to be true as they both prefer to use Qualcomm over their in house or other modems.

Therefore, I hope Apple scratches their plans to make a modem and just sticks with Qualcomm. Apple can most certainly afford to do biz with Qualcomm and should not go cheap when asking $1k+ for a flagship device.

I agree 100%, Qualcomm is king with modems. I have seen this first hand, one of the main reasons I am returning my iPhone.

I give Intel credit for doing a decent job with the latest XMM 7660 Advanced LTE modem found in the iPhone 11 lineup. However, the signal strength is not much of an improvement over my iPhone 8 Plus that had the Qualcomm x16 modem. Bottom line, it is hard to compete with the Apple iPhone when it has a Qualcomm modem in it as the Snapdragon 865 still cannot touch the A13 Bionic. The iPhone 12 with 5G will be a big improvement but I argue that the return to Qualcomm will be just as big. In the video below, the S20 Ultra barely edges out the 11 Pro Max and it makes me wonder if things would be different if it had the Qualcomm modem that is in the Note 10+.

The S20 is leagues better than the iPhone in signal strength and speeds, I was averaging 1-2 bars in places I would have full bars on my S20. Or worse case in some stores I would lose signal completely with the iPhone where I know my S20 would have almost full bars. Regardless of LTE or 5G signal. Definitely wasn't happy with the signal strength, it was a big downgrade.

5G never commercially launched in the St. Louis market, they just opened up access. Since it was never formally launched, apparently T-Mobile felt they could just shut it off. Maybe an early market for conversions to T-Mobile mid-band 5G.

It was never officially launched in philly either but I would connect from time to time.

  7. So my days with my S20 Ultra are numbered, I am paying off my lease this week. Too many issues for a $1400 phone, the average camera quality/focusing issues to the less than stellar battery life and recent reports of the camera lens cracking for no reason I've just had enough of Samsung. Had the S10 Plus last year and of course I had the modem issue, two years two duds. The quality just isn't there anymore and there are no other comparable Android phones. iPhone 11 Pro Max here I come, I hope Samsung can get their crap together next time around as I am not too fond of iPhone but my choices are limited.

My Note 10+ will not connect to my Magic Box now without some extreme effort on my end to get it to do so.  At work (where the magic box is that gave me about 25-30 Mbps down, and 2-4 Mbps up), I know get what looks to be uncapped or at least higher capped Band 2, 12, 66 of T-Mobile all of which giving me about 18-20 Mbps Down and Up.  So it isn't a big deal I guess now that the Magic Box isn't needed as I'm getting better signal throughout my building now where once upon a time I needed the Magic Box to get any meaningful service.

Caveat this is all LTE of course not 5G.

Do you all think T-Mobile will reconfigure the Magic Boxes to allow them to connect to one of their bands instead of band 41?  Just wondering the usefulness of the Magic Boxes going forward since it seems they are desperately trying to keep us from connecting to Sprint Bands.  The magic box still has an excellent connection to the sprint tower though.

The magic box will be going away i'm sure, it's useless for me now as I connect to good T-Mobile 5G in my house. Never worked good for me anyways.

could be.... but i've hit as high as 396mbps on "5G" before. and i put the 5G in quotes because it was really 15mhz B66, 10mhz B2, 10 mhz B71 LTE plus 10mhz N71. so if you were on an upgraded t-mobile tower with that much/more spectrum available between LTE and 5G you can hit that high.

    Service Mode showed:

n71 with Band 2: 10MHz, Band 71: 15MHz so not sure whats really going on.

you know, i wasnt even going to mention it because i thought it was a fluke but i have the same thing happening to me.  left to a 5G area this afternoon (none at home since the update last night) and since i got home the device has been showing 5G now unless it is on band 71 (it will just show LTE in that case).

i was not necessarily expecting 5G coverage at home since the coverage maps has me in this weird area where 5G is everywhere else except the middle of town.

Maybe once the phone finally gets a taste of 5G  (and uses the icon) everything is essentially 5G.  Seems Tmo likes to play fast and loose.

Yeah it's weird for sure but I don't mind I guess, just don't know why I wasn't getting 5G last night but suddenly I find it and boom nothing but 5G and occasionally I will go onto B71.
