Phoenix is confirmed to still have 5G on Sprint as of yesterday. So Tmobile is not done shutting down markets yet. Also we all know those 9 markets were not the only Sprint 5G markets. Here in Fl alone Miami, Tampa, Daytona and Jacksonville had plenty of Sprint 5G that just never launched.T-Mobile has the ability to devote substantial capex to a buildout. Sprint never could get ahead of its debt load to do that, and it certainly didn't get any help from SoftBank to do that either. Also, T-Mobile can take advantage of greater economies of scale for its build out than either Sprint or it could do alone.
Also, T-Mobile had to have an orderly shutdown of Sprint's nine 5G markets (Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York City, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.). Now that that has seemingly occurred, I would expect T-Mobile's 2.5 GHz rollout to kick into gear in these major markets.
Finally, we are (were) in the midst of a COVID-19 shutdown/delay of many regulatory processes. Hopefully T-Mobile was able to work through this as best it could. Hopefully things reopen soon and T-Mobile can fully execute on its network plans.

Sprint had the most spectrum too. Look how that turned out. Its about if you can execute on a wide scale. Right now Neville is talking to much and not working enough.Amazing. Look at how much spectrum T-Mobile now has vs. Verizon/AT&T.

Clearly you haven't seen this post.
I figured New T-Mobile was sandbagging us with the 600 mbps download estimation. Don’t get me wrong, that’s plenty of speed as most fiber optic WiFi speeds are between 200-500 mbps. Just thought N41 could potentially average 800+ mbps download with full 5G capacity.

For sure. Its using N71 and B71 at the same time. For a total of 25mhz+20mhzof b66/4Dam has to be 256 qam on 66 then.

That tower is completely missing B2. But before B71 came online 2 weeks ago it was 20mhz of B66+B12 only. With peak speeds at late night of about 200mbps.It's got to atleast be 66+2 LTE plus n71 to hit that high for that DL

I think its using B66+N71 upload CA.wow, phenomenal upload speeds! Do you know if that is using uplink CA?

No. B66 20mhz + N71 10mhz +B71 15mhz. Its not a rural area either so that's odd.Is LAA part of that?Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
It also has B12 at 5mhz

My unlocked verison got the update last week.Has anyone gotten the May update yet? Both my phones are still saying no update available on the April security patch. Seems to be running a bit late, I wonder if the COVID pandemic is slowing them down also.

That definitely makes sense. I hope they are upgrading the area.
I was there last week by the college and all of downtown. No 5G at all. Meanwhile in Ocala they have turned on five 5G towers already.

Yep I see now. So the unlocked version needs another update to enable it.If you download the samsung band selector app you'll notice that all the T-Mobile 5G NR bands still aren't available. I'm hoping they don't forget about us.

Odd that last security update came with a prl update so I thought that did it.Unlocked S20s don't have NR71 enabled yet. I have the same issue. You'll noticed Speedtest app still says LTE. When I had NR41 It would say 5G.

I just used my girlfriend's Sprint S20 and my Ultra and she was using real NR while my ultra had the icon but was not using it.Yes, this could be fodder for a Verizon ad, assuming their 5g indicator works any better. Given AT&T just displays 5ge or whatever.
Can anyone with a UNLOCKED GALAXY confirm that they can actually use NR?

Yeah sounds like false advertising to me. Most people don't know they are not using 5G.The 5G indicator doesn't indicate 5G on T-Mobile. It just means that you might be able to use 5G.
Right now, 5G is only "non standalone" (NSA). This means that LTE has to be the primary carrier, and then it CAN aggregate with NR if it's available, but doesn't have to. If the LTE connection you're using has the ability to aggregate an NR carrier, regardless of whether or not NR is connected or deployed, it shows 5G. That's all that the indicator means, that you can use 5G if it's been deployed. There may not be NR even deployed on that tower, but generally it means that at least one of the nearby towers has NR deployed.
The only way to reliably confirm it is engineering screens or NSG.
Standalone (SA) NR is supposed to begin deployment in December I heard, so hopefully the indicator will be a bit more useful then

So you got yours from Sprint? I have yet to see a NR connection even when it says 5G.im not really sure as tmo seems to be playing fast and loose with how they do 5G (or reflect it on device). i have the 5G icon showing right now but it always seems to show now even if i am just connected to band 2 (with no NR). if i go down the street NR will show.
those of us who got the initial S20 update had the Sprint | SPRINT display so unless they changed something, that is how a lot of us knew we got the update.

Well I have the unlocked S20 Ultra on Sprint and I seen the 5G icon but it was not using NR. I have seen a friend in Phoenix with a Tmobile one plus and a unlocked S20 Ultra with the latest firmware and the S20 would only use LTE but would say 5G while the one plus would use 5G NR for real.it was the case for the group of us last week in the initial run.

Are you sure???Btw, that means you got the tmo update for 5G.

There are so many times customer service is wrong I don't trust them anymore. I know more than the reps do 9 of out 10 times.Speaking to a customer service rep, they're saying it will be a gradual rollout to capable 5G devices, so the compatible S20s over the next 24 hours. That devices will slowly be provisioned.

Same. Been checking every 10 minutes since midnight. Done everything. Checked for actual software updates, done multiple PRL and Profile updates, tried airplane mode, power cycling and manually selecting N71. Still no 5G as of 10:17 AM Central.
They dropped the ball? Its in facts that it was supposed to be today. I didn't get any updates to my ultra unlocked or my sprint S20

No one received the update yet. It's not supposed to arrive until the 28th. If you're talking about the text, you should've received it at the same time as everybody else. I got it on my unlocked S20 Ultra.
I also got it on my unlocked ultra

It looks like they use these in areas where they need 600mhz more for capacity than coverage. It does support lowband, but it's really not that great. Less than 13 dBi gain on 600 and barely 13 dBi on 700.
