  1. Got the r15 sim and it has not been a good experience.

Once you have that sim tmobile throttles your video. YouTube is the only exception for some reason.

Also you will lose the ability to roam on att or sprint and Tmo B41 will not aggregate bands vs Sprint sim that would aggregate both bands.

You lose a lot to get standalone and its not worth it.

I'm switching back to the Sprint sim.

  2. Got the August security update this morning. No mention of NR-SA. Betting that's because connectivity is still routed through the Sprint backbone, and Sprint never even started building a 5G core (no huge need to when you're guaranteed to have LTE everywhere you broadcast 5G). T-Mobile's certainly capable of rerouting Sprint customers over to their own backbone, and they've already done so for a few Sprint customers, so maybe we'll get SA at some point. My guess is that this update enables it, but it wasn't mentioned in the patch notes to avoid confusion.
I tried it. I didn't get standalone. Use Samsung band selection app and turn on N71 only. That will tell it

  3. Unlikely.
The UE will likely hang onto NR until the signal is too weak to connect. If the UE connects to the femtocell when it loses NR, it may or may not reconnect to NR before leaving the femtocell's coverage area (depending on the handoff config).
I am going to have to disagree with you every T-Mobile store here has a femtocell of some type and as soon as an close enough to it I get kicked off 5G

When an antenna is added as was the case at the site I saw this morning, that's not "like for like," at least not in the plain meaning of the term.  Perhaps a lawyer could argue otherwise.

I think you had a question a while back about if Tmo 600mhz antenna can use AWS and PCS? I have seen two towers here using B71, N71, B2, B66, B4 and 3G all from the 600mhz antenna so I guess the answer is yes.

  5. Samsung logo on power-off. Phone model info, then Samsung logo along for boot. My guess is that both animations are now identical to the unlocked version, and I'll be able to confirm this on Thursday.
I have the unlocked S20 ultra and the Sprint S20 5G and can confirm its just like the unlocked version now.

  6. I don't know.  The n41 panels Sprint/Ericsson use in Kansas City, Houston and Atlanta are pretty small and squarish like this one.  Is Tmo re-using any Sprint equipment?

    Robert

I talked to the Ericsson engineer doing this tower. He said they usually use their own equipment but for this tower they are using Nokia massive mimo and 600mhz equipment. That explains it. They are using Nokia on some and Ericsson on some just like you thought.

  7. gotcha.. wasnt sure if it was a + vs ultra thing or what
Also Tmo has the most uninformed network. You will see towers with B66/4+B12 and some with B66/4 +B2+B12+B71 or B66/4, B71, B12 and even some with just B12 or just B66/4.

  8. sorry was a little vague

She has the + I have the ultra (why i posted here hahaha)

And they were both bouncing around on the different tmo bands
Thats how tmo operates. With Sprint its really simple. B25, B26 or 2-3XCA b41.

With tmobile you could be using B66+B2+B12 one min and the next using B2+B12 or B12+B4. Its there load balancing act so to speak.

  9. But you'd have to assume that T-mobile would be using _some_ of the Sprint towers? In Madison, T-mobile is terrible for signal and if they integrated a few of Sprint's towers, they'd blanket this city very well. I know of a few T-mobile tower locations that I can check on my drive to and from work. (I am keeping up with the thread loosely on the merger)
Sprint has more rural towers here than tmo and will likely have at least 5 keep towers. Most towers they are co located on though.

  10. So a quick question??

Sitting at my desk explaining to my daughter how to read her signal check i installed on her phone [emoji41][emoji1787]

I was noticing her + was showing different bands then my ultra.. sitting in the same location..

Is this because her SC was the lite and mine was the PRO???  whats this about??
What phone do you both have? Also what network is it using?

  11. How will we know if they're testing it? Will B41 go off line for Sprint LTE?? Do they need more/new equipment on the Sprint towers? (feel free to point me to any article explaining this)
I have to keep my phone in LTE/CDMA only mode (no 5G) to get any decent signal, but if/when they start testing 5G off Sprint towers I'm not really going to know in this mode. right? I fear Madison will be the last market to get any improvements anytime soon.
First you need to find out if there are any N41 antenna on a tmobile tower in your area. They (at least here) will test when they are putting the equipment up. Sometimes the test is 20 mins and sometimes 2-3 hours. This is for N71 btw. It usually goes back offline for 3-6 weeks. The earfcn sometimes will change too so it can make room for N41. I have not seen that yet as this is the first N41 antenna in the marion county FL.

  12. I wonder how many markets have the same equipment vendor for both T-Mobile and Sprint. Here in Ky Sprint was Ericsson but T-Mobile is Nokia. I'm assuming they'll stick with the existing T-Mobile vendor for their regions like they've shown in New York.
For me in Fl both are Ericsson so idk but Sprint does have a ton of Nokia 8t8r just not in my market. Its all Ericsson 8t8r.

  13. Not all antennas are made by the Network Vendor OEM's.  Antenna panels can be pretty agnostic.  It's possible to use the same 2.5GHz antenna panel with Nokia as Ericsson as another vendor.  So long as the radio is separate and not integral.
So it could be possible that Tmo is taking NR41 panels from Sprint installs (anywhere in the country) and re-using them.  And if not reusing them (anywhere in the country), reallocating units that had not been installed anywhere yet or were in the supply chain, and resending them out to new installs.  I'm not saying they are reusing Sprint NR41 antenna panels.  I do not know.  But I am wondering.

    Better ask Tim.

  14. Unloaded 5G and overloaded 4G is unlikely to be in place for long since most customers replace their mobile phones every couple years.  As new phones come out that support 5G and the phone makers stop making phones that do not support 5G, customers will naturally purchase new 5G enabled phones thus moving themselves to 5G.  I would expect greater than 2% of customers will move to 5G each month over the next couple years as new phones are purchased by customers.  This mass migration to 5G may not start until this fall when all the flagship models will support 5G but when it does, it will be unstoppable.
Somebody talk to me here. Is this massive mimo or mmwave? 19d895c8b338e6c1728d95a7345ab456.jpg
