  1. They will also bid in the upcoming AWS-3 auction. They will bid for the standalone uplink 1695-1710 MHz, which will then be combined with their 2180-2200MHz downlink. They will also have a 25x5 chunk adjacent to Sprint's block G. I think they will trade that chunk for Sprint hosting their other spectrum. Sprint might also lease them a portion of EBS for fixed broadband.
  2. Iphone 5S is a dual band LTE phone as in both band 25 and band 26. Just not band 41.
  3. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/analysts-comcast-could-make-bid-t-mobile-bolster-wireless-strategy/2014-05-23 It's some analyst's wet dream .
  4. Oh, I know that voice wise with roaming, Sprint is superior to AT&T. Data, not so much. The roaming pact with Alltel expires in 2016 so they better be working on replacing that coverage with native as much as possible to minimize their roaming bill.
  5. I can see Apple segregating the two versions with the 4.7" getting the 9625 and the 5.5" getting the 9635. Same segmentation strategy as the S5 Prime and the One M8 Prime. Here is a discussion of the S5 Prime: http://www.zdnet.com/samsung-galaxy-s5-prime-to-support-225-mbps-download-7000029652/ BTW, the 9635 was released last November. The iPhones usually go into production couple of months before introduction.
  6. You might be right, AJ. We will see. But 9635 samples have been floating around since last year. Now, can they produce enough for Apple's needs? Who are the target carriers? Does China Mobile, Softbank and Sprint add up to enough iPhones for Apple to place a large enough order for 9635s? Or does everybody get 9625s? None of the other US carriers need a 20+20 CA except Sprint.
  7. That's all well and good, but it still does not get you 40million customers. How much more will they have to pay to convince them to come over? It really, really bothers me that after almost 10 years the SMR spectrum is still not unencumbered at the IBEZ boundaries. WTH have the FCC and Sprint been doing?
  8. I am only paying $40/line for 4 smartphones+tax with AT&T. Is that $40/for the 5th smartphone?
  9. Unfortunately for me, with 4 lines, Sprint's plans either at the 10GB or 20GB level come out to $160/mo, which is exactly the same as AT&T and unless Sprint's network matches or exceeds AT&T's in coverage I will not switch my personal lines. Sorry Sprint!
  10. MDM 9x35 chipset it is a Category 6 part capable of 300 Mbps on the downlink and 50 Mbps on uplink. Getting to 300 Mbps of downstream throughput requires aggregation of two 20 MHz wide LTE carriers. If Apple uses this part and it is widely available, then it will be capable of CA. If not, then not, I guess not...
  11. You mean the old regime that was too cheap to reserve their own crews for the build up? That had to scrounge around for crews? The same one that did not want backhaul present at the site before it was rebuilt because it might cost them an additional $300 or so for the month that was there unused? That regime that nickeled and dimed everything and everybody? I hope they are gone forever.
  12. I am totally disappointed that we are giving the likes of Tony Chen, S. Ali and other T-Mobile trolls air time. Ignore them and they will die!
  13. Yet another AT&T subcontractor lays people off: http://www.rcrwireless.com/article/20140626/infrastructure-2/att-contractor-layoffs-spread/
  14. You're right, AMR-WB supports up to 15.85kbit/sec bit rate. EVRC-B is what Verizon uses at 4Kbit/sec bit rate.
  15. Is everybody that uses HD Voice under VoLTE going to be using the same codec with the same exact sample rate. Or will there be allowances for different sample rates even though we are using the same sample rate? If everybody uses the 16K sample rate, that's great. That is 4 times the Verizon 1x sample rate.
  16. They (AT&T contractors) are finishing sites that were already in progress but they are not starting any new ones.
  17. Yeah, Sprint is picking up some crews from AT&T contractors (Mastec). Interesting article on Wireless Estimator: http://www.wirelessestimator.com/breaking_news.cfm
  18. T-Mobile has 65,000 sites. I am not sure they need to keep all of them. If a lot of them are capacity sites and not coverage sites, then they need to be thinned since they will not be needed for capacity. Sprint if they ever merge with T-Mobile will have to stop thinking about revenue justification and think more strategically. The reputation for weak coverage is hard to overcome and they will have to do something about it. They are playing with the big boys.
  19. Oh, if you are using air conditioning to cool any of the equipment you have to double the power budget...
  20. Yes, the RF amps generate most of the heat and consume most of the power. A single antenna sector might radiate 50/MHz. If we assume that the sector is fully loaded and is using a 20MHz FDD channel then it's using at the max 50x20MHz. Now a wideband RF amps might be 50% efficient if at that. Most of the time it is 20-30%. If at 33%, then each antenna/rf amp will be consuming 3000 Watts. so for a three sector site, that will be 9-10,000 Watts. That does not include any of the other equipment.
  21. Hey, I used to won one of those . I should have kept it. 100 mins for $100
  22. Oh chit! I was told it was going to be totally free! You mean I have to bring some money with me...?
