  1. Just got the Android 12 update on my S21. The T-Mobile 5G UC icon lit up a while after I turned off WiFi, but SC doesn't identify the 5G band. Is that because Android isn't giving you want you need still? Edit: now SC not showing any NR, so I'm wondering if the icon should even be on right now. 🤔Screenshot_20211122-205543_SignalCheck Pro.jpg

Oh ok. Thanks for the information. I’ve connected to B2, B12, B71 since I’ve had the iPhone 13 Pro. I previously had an iPhone 8 Plus so I would only see B2 and 12 for the most part. Still haven’t seen any B66 in Live Oak. I did connect to N71 when out was out by the Walmart here. That’s probably because I-10 is right there.

Live Oak huh? Small world. We stopped and visited friends there this summer on the way back from Florida.

Maybe one type of firmware causes it to happen more frequently. We have all scattered accross many carriers plus the unlocked version. Maybe also the hardware version?

That's what I was wondering, or battery optimization settings. I haven't had any issues with SCP stopping on my T-Mobile S21 except sometimes when I reboot, but it may just be taking time starting all the background apps and I'm being impatient.

The other advantage of a TNX SIM is that you can force-roam on some networks through the built-in network search menu, at least on Android. The network still needs to be one that T-Mobile allows roaming on in that area, but it's been handy for me in a few areas where T-Mobile is weak but US Cellular is pretty reliable - I can go into the network selector and choose US Cellular so it stays on that network instead of trying to grab onto a weak T-Mobile signal.

If only T-Mobile had roaming in my biggest problem area, where Sprint does have roaming. :(

    Thanks all.

SA 5G is not important to me at this point.  The aspects of a Sprint-SIM phone, including having non-keep sites as a fallback is more important to me at this point.

If one gets a new SIM card with a new phone purchase (as mentioned in my original post, such as Best Buy providing on Sprint's behalf or requesting it through the My Sprint app), will it be the Sprint SIM by default? (that is, if you don't request a specific type?)  Do TNX SIM cards need to be specifically requested? (either on an existing phone or an upgrade phone that is requesting a changeover to T-Mobile)  Also, for new Sprint SIMs that are not TNX SIMs, will those need to be changed out to a New T-Mobile SIM once the Sprint network is completely decommissioned and New T-Mobile is in place?

I don't know if there is a definitive answer on this or not. I was surprised to find the S21 I ordered from Sprint came with a Sprint SIM installed and the TNX SIM separate in the box, still attached to the card it comes in. I went ahead and swapped and activated the TNX SIM to see if my experience would be better than it was on my OnePlus 8. I have had a couple of hiccups, but other than those occurrences, it has worked fine. I kept the Sprint SIM in case I change my mind.

thats the thing, I do not have RCS.  Textra (and third party sms apps) do not have the ability for it anyways. When TNX was enabled, I started seeing Sent >> Delivered for SMS..i dont get read/ typing indicators so this is different than RCS. i have just casually wondered what is going on on the network level for this to happen.

I vaguely remember reading years ago that some networks had the ability to tell you when an SMS was delivered.

Soooo they will take my HTC EVO 4G I have on a free line (not kidding), and give me the Samsung..?!

I was going to say it just started working in my Nexus 5 again, but then realized you are testing with a much older device than that even. 😂 I had uninstalled it for a while thinking that changing the target Android version had broken it. Not sure why it wasn't working for a while.

  8. LOL I meant how long are they free. From what you're saying, I guess they are free as long as you keep them after the 12 month minimum?

There are no free line promos going on right now but they ran at least 3 last year and one already this year. I find out about them mostly on Reddit but T-Mobile News and Twitter etc. announces them. They usually run for a week.
The stipulation is you hold on to them for a year and they are your free and clear. If you drop a line before 12 month then the free lines left on your account that are less than a year old become chargable. People are creative as to what they use them for. Some rent them to friends others use them for T-Mobile Tuesday benefits. Mine are being held as I said for the grandkids. What's nice is they are usually stackable with promos that require adding a line. Like "Discounted Phone if you add a line". You get the discounted phone but not the monthly charge for the line.

Here is an example of a (now ended) promo:

Hmm that looks like NSA 5G with LTE information missing, since there is no 5G cell identity info.. but who knows. Send a diagnostic and I'll see if it's hiding anything good behind the scenes!

I had a similar screen on my OnePlus 8 after switching to TNX yesterday afternoon. I wasn't sure if it was real or not, so I sent a report to you. It did have other stuff though, so maybe it was real.

  10. I just saw the update in the Play Store and saw the message in the update notes about updating in the app, so that worked. :) I'm not sure if everything went as expected, but it wasn't quite what I expected. My shortheimers is kicking in, so I already don't remember the exact sequence 😁, but this is close:

    - As soon as I opened Signal Check Pro, it notified me about the update

    - I tapped update, and saw the active download arrow appear in the notification bar, then go away.

    - Nothing else happened.

    - I closed the app using the exit option in the menu (I wish I had just used the home button, but..)

    - Re-opened Signal Check, and was notified that the update was ready to install.

-Tapped install, got the animated install screen.

    - Wait, maybe this is when I used the exit function? 🤷‍♂️

    - Reopened the app and got the change log notification.

Sorry, I tried to remember. Hope that helps, but probably not. 🤦‍♂️ Bottom line, it did work. I should have used the screen recorder. 🤣

  11. I haven't done a lot of speed tests recently, but recently I was out picking up groceries (I think that's where I was.. I need to double-check the location from the test...) and decided to do a test. I'm quite sure this is the fastest I have ever gotten, I just can't remember what the previous best was. Pretty impressed by the  upload speed as much as anything. This is my OnePlus 8 on a ROAMAHOME line.

  12. Been broken for several days now. The forum navigation on the web doesn't work well for me, so I prefer to use Tapatalk, but I guess I'll have to manage. :) I don't recall reading about any forum maintenance recently, so must be an unexpected issue, or disabled, but I think Robert would have told us if he did that.

  13. I remember reading some comments on here recently about T-Mobile band 2 performing poorly. Is that widespread, or is my current awful experience because I keep getting onto a tiny 5MHz of it? Whenever my phone connects to band 2, I have a great signal, but data won't work unless I force my phone onto 3G, which picks up Sprint EVDO. Shouldn't matter, but it's a OnePlus 8 with a Sprint sim.

  14. I have been in contact with OnePlus support in an attempt to improve SignalCheck's 5G reporting. I was ultimately directed to make a forum bug post by their support team. I would appreciate it if I could get users to "Like" or comment on that post in an attempt to get it attention:

Not sure if it will help, but it certainly can't hurt. Thank you!
    Will do!

  15. I have had the OnePlus 8 on Sprint since June. It has been a great phone, aside from the update a week or so back that broke outbound calls - when the other party answered, the call would end immediately. A new update was pushed out today that seems to have fixed that. I'd like to have a real telephoto lens, but the V40 and V50 tended to just digital zoom with the main lens most of the time anyway, so I haven't really lost anything.
