Yeah the G8X wasn't worth enough for that level of credit for me. The funny thing is, I've yet to see or get anything email or otherwise about turning the LG in as part of the deal though. There was nothing about it whatsoever in the box the S21 came in certainly.

Official Tmobile-Sprint merger discussion thread
PythonFanPA replied to Nextel49's topic in T-Mobile Merger/5G NR Deployment
Gotcha, thanks Mike....I'd only read the Business Wire article back when the news first hit which really didn't give date specifics. And I was cross referencing that with another release strictly about the new phones (A52 and A72 as well) themselves which touted April 9th release, so I just assumed that the free upgrade was also available out the gate too ha. -

Where is it stated the deal doesn't start until the 18th? I've missed that somehow if that's the case. All I've read is that the devices (including the 2 higher end models) would be available starting the 9th - which at least is true for the A32. -
I'd recommend it still too, assuming you're good with holding off on 5G. Probably one of if not the best phones I've ever owned in terms of both RF performance and battery life. I'm already missing the G8X on battery life especially as the base S21 even with power saver mode is noticeably inefficient by comparison. Swappa has 2 New In Box ones (i'm sure this is the base version without the extra screen like I and I believe Trip picked up on back the beginning of 2020) for only $250: Buy Sprint LG G8X ThinQ - Swappa

As T-Mo is starting a promotion for free 5G phone upgrades using this model, starting a new thread for anyone interested. Here's some reviews I've found from various sources on this model (or at least comparing it vs the other currents of the line and even one that throws in an S20 FE comparison): Samsung Galaxy A32 5G review: There's more than just progress in the 5G smartphone - NotebookCheck.net Reviews Galaxy A32 vs. Galaxy A42 vs. Galaxy A52 vs. Galaxy S20 FE: Samsung's 5G phones compared - CNET Galaxy A52 5G vs. Galaxy A42 5G vs. Galaxy A32 5G: Which cheap phone should you buy? | Tom's Guide (tomsguide.com) Samsung Galaxy A52 5G, A42 5G, A32 5G, A12, and A02s make US debut - The Verge Samsung Galaxy A32 5G review - Digital Citizen

The A32's are on the devices listing on the Sprint site, but I'm guessing you have to do this in-store, because there's definitely no upgrade path that shows you'd get it for free it you select it online on the website. -

Also apparently the auto-message during the initial order message was wrong - the S21 got shipped overnight to me. I'm currently installing the April security update on it before attempting to activate it.

I tried on 2 other lines and got the same, including my wife's LG G7. It was only my G8X line where I got the discount. I couldn't find anything external to the text about the news or which phones they accept or not either.
-
FYSA for anyone that didn't already get the text, T-Mo is 'celebrating' one year since the merger by offering 50% off the Galaxy S21's if you're upgrading from an acceptable phone. I was able to get the base S21 256gb model (though I have to wait a few weeks since I suppose they're backordered) for $19.21 x 24 = $461.04 total via installment plan.

Easiest answer to the author's question above all else: with LG you could get parallel performance to Samsung without the exorbitant overcharge to the wallet if nothing else. Especially in the aftermarket approach. At least there's still Motorola as an option, for now. And I suppose OnePlus once we're finally on a unified single network path in a few years.

Official Tmobile-Sprint merger discussion thread
PythonFanPA replied to Nextel49's topic in T-Mobile Merger/5G NR Deployment
Yeah, I definitely haven't disabled anything, all roaming possibilities are enabled.....and its only been over the past week or so roughly, I'm not sure exactly when it started happening. I never had any problems with texts when connected to a TMo band before until very recently. -

PythonFanPA replied to Nextel49's topic in T-Mobile Merger/5G NR Deployment
I keep having a problem for days now, where if my phone (still pure Sprint) picks up/switches to nearby TMo signal (usually B66 per SCP), suddenly I can't send or receive texts (its also flips to an R for Roaming, but all phone data settings are set to allow all roaming possibilities as well). And toggling Airplane mode doesn't allow the phone to switch back to a native Sprint connection ever. The only way I can ever fix it is to reboot the phone, then suddenly its fine again. @Trip is the only person I know that has a G8X too for sure (or did) - granted you're in a completely different area than me, but have you experienced anything like this lately? -
Anyone in central PA region/Shentel land on this phone that can speak to recent behavior? Considering upgrading this this or possibly the LG V60 5G otherwise and moving my wife to my G8X, but trying to get opinion/feedback on it. If you chime in, state whether you're still pure legacy Sprint vs say TNA mode as well please for clarity.

Once you went more north into Sevierville proper it normalized....it was main stretch though from maybe roughly around Tanger/NASCAR Park region through the bulk of the Parkway strip south, and again, it was strictly a data-only issue. Was just completely dead while stationary in that area at 2 different restaurants on two different bookend occasions (26th and again on the 30th).
-
Fair warning to anyone traveling to the Pigeon Forge/Sevierville area in the near term....was through there twice in our down-and-back trip between Christmas and New Years last week to southern TN to visit with my mom/brother. There's something going on on the main strip through south SVille & PF with data connectivity. Signal is fine/strong, and calls or texts would go through fine, but data was completely dead. I know what happened in Nashville obviously but I thought that was affecting AT&T service and causing issues there for those users. Gatlinburg comparatively seemed fine on all fronts when we were there, as did Townsend area.

Received 'coverage update' emails from Sprint-Mo/T-Sprint today notifying me that Airraves are no longer needed and that: "Your device will be shut down within 30 days and removed from your account. There is nothing more you need to do." I suppose that's that. -
