  1. Saw techs working on two separate towers in SW Fort Worth. Hopefully 1x800 and LTE 800 are about to fired up. For that to happen, they just need to add carrier cards right? If so, does that involve them climbing up the tower or are the carrier cards located in the equipment in the base station?

    There is also testing and tweaking of values/antenna downtilt to ensure interference doesn't occur.  This takes some time.

  2. Man I really hope that is not the case.  I am really not interested in financing my phone on my plan nor I am interested in a phone upgrade every year.  I like to get two years from my device, its a really a pain to transfer all your photos, apps, contacts, videos, and custom stuff you do to your android device to a new device.  The idea of Sprint changing their offerings under the incentive that you get to upgrade sooner really is more of a pain in my opinion.

    Well I am not happy about that either but it seems like Sprint is trying to imitate Tmobile every day and even the industry in general so I could see Sprint moving in that direction.  Hopefully Rocket87 who works at Sprint can chime in and see if he has any further details if the subsidized phone thing is truly going away and when and whether grandfathered Everything Data/SERO/EPRP plans are able to still upgrade through this method.

    The world launch date for the GS5 is 4/11/14 from what I read but you know the US carrier versions are going to be later than that because the trend is that they always have been.  The Sprint GS5 probably won't have a launch date until end of Apr/early May date.

    Just FYI, the Sprint Easy Pay plans in no way forces you to pay your phone sooner than 24 months so that you have yearly upgrades.  The yearly upgrade thing is an added benefit for those that want the ability to turn in their current device so that they can qualify for a new device.  If you follow the 23 monthly payments with the 24th month payment slightly larger to cover the odd amounts then you are essentially just upgrading every 2 years.

  3. I know the G2 is supposed to have GG2 but this screen seems to be made of super soft glass. I already have quite a few hairline scratches in mine and I baby the thing.

    Get a screen protector.  Problem solved.

  4. What do I want, I want the price to be within the $200 amount that I have been paying for all my smartphones.  Yes, I understand those are contract subsidize prices, but hey that's what I can afford.  But with no pre-loaded bloatware, similar specs, and the plethora of LTE bands and both CDMA and GSM support so I can take the phone abroad, the N5 is looking better and better.

    This is assuming that Sprint will still allow old plans to continue to upgrade their smartphones at the subsidized price.  There is a rumor from Sprint reps on this site about a March 14th date that Sprint will only offer the Easy Pay plans as the only way to pay for your smartphones.  Who knows if it will affect grandfathered plans or is only mandated for those under the My Way or Framily plans.  I hope this is NOT true and only affects the new My Way/Framily plans but who knows.

  5. Any chance this phone is going to be a multi-carrier phone like the nexus 5 where you can just swap sims and move to another carrier with the same phone?

    Doubt it.  I am sure Sprint, Verizon, ATT and Tmobile will all have their own GS5 variants.  There are not going to break that model since all the carriers don't want to see their phones get unlocked and moved to different carriers with ease.

  6. I dont understand that statement? If it is triband, that is a benefit to anyone that has that phone. It's not a huge upgrade but for people stuck with older model androids or other devices it might be just what they were looking for.

    You do know that he was being sarcastic.  The point of Sprint even stating that it is the "ONLY carrier that supplies the GS5 with Spark speeds and Sprint Framily plans" is ridiculous.  Of course Sprint is the only carrier that can provide those services because no other carrier has access the same pool of spectrum nor have the same type of family plans.  Its one of those marketing statements to try to draw attention.

  7. soooo rather then sift through the mounds of crap in all the different phone threads...

    I thought I would post here and ask...

    how are they doing???

    do they all have the spark update (except the n5 i know)

    I have been finding bits and pieces....but maybe this could be a good thread to kinda of track real world use...

    if you can keep it to how its working on 800 voice....and the different bands of LTE....

    Because i just saw a screen shot of a 41 connection...very nice...

    Mainly I am trying to decide if i want to upgrade, or just keep sitting on my note 2..

    Thanks

    You should definitely upgrade to a triband LTE device.  I have the LG G2 and It is so worth it to get access to B41 LTE.  Personally on my route to work, the B41 LTE access fills in some of the LTE gaps that currently don't have B25 LTE currently until the other Sprint sites get upgraded to NV.  Not to mention that the specs on the Qualcomm 800 chip which helps with battery life and the nice 1080p display.

    I wish it were true but out here in the OC where I work, B26 LTE ain't coming for awhile due to rebanding issues.

  9. Just got this message in an area i never had lte before. Thoughts?

    I have been getting this stupid MIP 67 and MIP 104 issue out in my office.  Its rather annoying since it seems like it works outside.  However I have been using my phone in my office near a window since I got the G2 and never had problems.  Might need to call Sprint to find out what the heck is going on.

  10. Dang man.. Went to sleep with 94% battery at 12 noon and woke up at 15:45 with only 85% that's not right... Gonna try to clear my cache like the poster a few spots up did.. I ran it dead til it cut off then charged it all the way up before cutting it on.. Now in the process of running it dead again like someone recommended earlier..

    Anytime you see some unusual battery drain, check the Battery page in Settings and look at the usage.  Usually its the BS Google Play Services app taking up unnecessary battery.  Not only would I do the Cache thing but I make a habit of powering off your phone to restart the current state of the phone.  Sometimes the phone in its current state could be stuck on sucking resources that just need a reboot.

  11. If you get HD voice, you will definitely know it. Whenever I call my wife, the ability to hear each other, even while I am in the car driving, is amazing. We both have G2s in an Ericsson market. One of the biggest benefits is the ability to hear the other caller through background noise. Whenever I've called people while driving, no one can tell I am in the car.

    How do we verify if the HD voice encoder EVRC-NW is enabled on the G2?  Is there anything else we need to look for?

  12. Sprint says they plan to have 100 Spark markets by the end of the year.  Does anybody know which markets those will be?

    You are crazy if you think B41 LTE will be available in the top 100 markets by end of 2014.  The timeline that Sprint has announced is a 3 year timeline but given their track record I am going to say 4 years just because of the density required with B41 LTE.  We will have to see in the Q2 CC if Sprint will announce the beginning of B41 LTE deployment on Sprint sites.  Right now only Clearwire sites have been given the B41 LTE treatment and will continue to do so through 2014 and early 2015 until it is finished.

  13. So many quick responses, I can't Google things fast enough to keep up xD. I really appreciate all of you guys taking the time to respond, I have a lot of new things to become acquainted with!

    I would say my advice is to go into college with an open mind and just start off by declaring Computer Science as your major since that is your true interest.  Take a few introduction courses and you trust me you will know quickly if this is the type of work you want to do for your career.  You should be doing something for your career that you enjoy and not only for the money.

  14. Was there anything mentioned about customer additions or customer losses under the CLEAR brand?

    I don't think so.  I mean Sprint doesn't call out CLEAR brand customer adds/losses and probably doesn't consider them worthy of its own category since I am sure the numbers are pretty low.  If anything it might have been folded in the mixing point of prepaid/MVNOs customers adds/losses.

  15. I am really curious to see what Mr. Son and company have up their sleeve with their announcement today.  I wonder if this is just smoke and mirrors.  I sure hope Sprint didn't expect a Sprint/Tmobile merger to be a walk in the park in terms of regulatory issues.  I think the FCC and the DOJ does like what it sees in how Tmobile has been shaking up the industry especially in what they did in FY 2013.   I think its only going to get harder and harder as time goes on especially if Tmobile starts gaining customers in Q1 and Q2 2014.  No mergers result in no casualties and I think the regulatory boards are afraid of a Sprint/Tmobile merger could kill the momentum and the Tmobile culture of being a consumer friendly carrier.

  16. .17 and .15 are the amazing radio. .23 and after is the bad ones.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

    Sorry I misquoted the wrong versions.  I knew one of latter ones were not as good.  My goodness the N5 already has 3 versions out there?  I thought it was just .15 and .17.

  17. Ascertion, on 10 Feb 2014 - 4:23 PM, said:G2 is awesome except for slight static via bluetooth in vehicles at louder volumes, and signal connectivity isn't as strong as let's say the Nexus 5, but that's only because the Nexus 5 is a beast. G2 has great battery life and it runs any games I throw at it easily. If you're into modding your device, the G2 has some options, but not as many as the Nexus 5.

    The Nexus 5 has great RF performance and it's also a beast at running anything you throw at it (gaming wise), however, the battery life is shorter than the G2s. (It'll be slightly better than the LGOG you currently have in battery life.)

    Well the N5 .15 radio is a beast. The N5 .17 .23 radio not so much based on what I have read. The verdict is still out there on whether the new Spark update radio will have the .15 radio RF performance along with supporting B26 and B41. Either way if you are a N5 owner and download the Spark update, you will have to use the new Spark update radio regardless of the RF performance. If you have the Spark update firmware installed and then flash the old .15 radio then you are not getting B26 and B41 accessibility and lose the Spark functionality.

    EDIT:  Updated correct reference to .23 radio instead of the .17 radio since that was wrong radio version.  Thanks lilotimz.

  18. I dont know it sounded very different when normally it sounds subpar

    Do you remember the HTC Evo 4G LTE with HD Voice capability and how HTC was showing off HD voice?  When HTC did the demo with HD voice it should be able to cut down on the background noise when on a call dramatically.  There should be still some ambient noise but the for the most part HD voice calls are very clear.  I would say do more tests in noisy situations between the two G2 phones and see if you get the same thing.

    Maybe it is on and maybe not but hopefully we can get some confirmation by a sprint rep or corporate.   The NV sites definitely have the capability to do so with 1xA installed but just not sure everything has been enabled yet to support HD voice.  I believe that certain encoders need to be enabled so you might want to verify that as well.

  19. Don't get the Note 3.  It should be out of the question since it is NOT a triband LTE device.  Unless you absolutely love the S-pen feature and cannot live without SVLTE then get the Note 3 but I still wouldn't advise it.  I personally have a G2 and I love it.  Don't know much about the G Flex but it should be a solid device.  It is a big screen that will satisfy anyone who loves big screens but the verdict is still too early on the G Flex.  I always tell people to go to a Sprint store and try it out.  There is nothing that I could say or do that can replace your first hand experience with playing with each of the phones.

  20. It was a G2 to G2 call

    Doesn't matter if its a G2 to G2 call.  There are other factors that need to be in place before HD voice will be launched.  Also we don't know the effects of how handing off from a HD voice capable site (NV upgraded) to a non-HD voice capable site (non-NV upgraded) will occur.  Perhaps Sprint might be waiting until NV 1.0 is complete before deploying HD voice.

  21. So, I'm good then? I do not want to go in the edit menu as I do not want to adjust anything, just keep it as Sprint intended.

    The reason I checked is a lot mentioned that after the update the bands were still not enabled. But, my phone is completely good and how sprint wanted it and all bands are enabled, correct?

    Thank you

    Just enable all LTE bands and keep band priorities all set to 1 if you want Sprint default.

  22. Okay I think I have figured this out ! I believe that the Note 3 that they were referring to at the Sprint store was the Note 3 Neo. It is due for release next month and I have read that Sprint and other carriers are supposed to get it. So they may be right but failed to tell me the specifics like the fact that it was the NEO a cheaper version of the Note 3 with a 720p screen of 5.5" and 16g of storage. However it is supposed to have the Samsung hexa core processor for the LTE version. It would be hard to get a 720p screen at this point in time for me so even so it would be disappointing to me since I want everything to be the same but with tri band LTE and not go backwards in time speck wise.

    I noticed you started a thread on XDA in the Sprint Note 3 General section claiming a triband Note 3 was coming to Sprint without verifying the facts first.

  23. should i change mines from

    Band 25: 2

    Band: 26: 3

    Band: 41: 1

     to

    B25 = 0

    B26 = 0

    B41 = 1

    ?

    People always get

    Band 25: 2

    Band: 26: 3

    Band: 41: 1

    and

    B25 = 0

    B26 = 0

    B41 = 1

    confused.

    The

    B25 = 0

    B26 = 0

    B41 = 1

     is only viewable when you "Edit" the Band Priorities.

    Band 25: 2

    Band: 26: 3

    Band: 41: 1

    is only viewable when you "View" the Band Priority.
