  1. Things like this are to be expect led when rebuilding a network from the ground up. What really sucks for sprint (and their customers) is the six month delay NV has had put on it. That means 6 more months of building up a bad reputation, customer defections and delays rebranding effort.
  2. On the earns call they where a bit obtuse about their plans and seemed to go back and fourth a bit. I think the delays in the NV rollout have made then a bit less likely to give an aggressive rollout plan to the press.
  3. Kind of, niether could find funding for further roll out. Clear's business model didn't work and sprint didn't have the capital to absorb them until SoftBank. So it was both companies really.
  4. Hopefully, otherwise this brings us back to the WiMAX days and sprint squandering their first mover advantage by the limited roll out.
  5. Sure there is, if you go the whole way through you pay an extra 88 dollars over two years. That is 88 dollars so you don't have to put any money down, have the option to upgrade at one year (even if you don't use it you had the option ) and you don't have to carry insurance for the last 8 months or so (the price of the deductible and buy out the one up are about the same)... The last benefit makes up for the 88 dollars extra that you spend on the phone.
  6. I thought sprint paid Ericsson and all the vendors a lump sum with incitives for exceeded targets (lighting up sites faster). In fact I am pretty sure that is how sprint explained the payment structure on one of their conference calls.
  7. And international calls. With google voice intergration international calls are routed through Gv or at least the charges.
  8. If you lease something you have to give it back. This is not true with one up, you could go 24 months or pay off the phone when ever you want and not give the phone back. Lease is not the right metaphor. It is a trade in program.
  9. 8 is the high end of average speeds sprint is claiming their lte network will preform at. The answer for poor lte performance in SF is obvious really. The city is on of the densest in the US and not even half the sites are done. As for what the is samsung's choke point is that is something you would have to ask them about. If I lived in SF I would turn lte off until the new year, 3G speeds weren't terrible (at lest in September )
  10. They have the most 3G upgraded towers of any vendor, but I doubt that would hold true for lte. Further, they should have the most towers online they have the more of the top 100 markets than any of the other vendor. THe problem with AL is they are slow to roll out lte and 800. If you compare the progress of first round Chicago to first round Washington, D.C. You soon see the difference in deployment speed. There are stil tons of sites in DC that are 3G only and only a handful in Chicago.
  11. Half the sites in the downtown area have lte live and the other have doesn't. I think and samsung should either turn off lte or quickly upgrade the towers that have not been, to avoid people in sf getting a bad tast in their mouth with sprint lte.
  12. No, it happens with all carriers even vzw. Att would get hit pretty hard when the iPhone brought its 3G network to its knees. Sprint's network has been really bad for a couple of years now and in many place still is. These troll will be hard to find in comment sections as the network improves just like with ATT. But they'll never really completely go away as people do like to hold on there bad experiances for a very long time.
  13. Engadget has been horrible since a large portion of their staff moved to the verge.
  14. According to this video sprint is using all lte bands to achieve these speeds. Is this the result of carrier aggregation?
  15. Not really, the early upgrade fee is not charged. So you are turning in your current phone for that value, whatever it is at the time.
  16. You don't pay extra for in warranty repairs when you are still under warranty.
  17. I have never been charge for any in warranty repair at any sprint store ever. Every time i have an issue with a sprint phone that is covered under warranty it is either fixed or replaced for free. I have been charge the one and only time I broke a phone (don't carry insurance) for the repair.
  18. Iceland is a country of 600,000 or so If I remember correctly. The amount of spectrum per person is a lot more in Iceland than the US further since Iceland is such a small market they need to be in different markets beside smart phone and tabs to recover the fix cost.
  19. It's a forum, there is no such thing as hard evidance. Just appeals to athority
  20. That is because they have the most 3G complete. As far as 4g forget it, they are no where close. Their first round markets are way behind Samsung and Ericsson.
  21. Their equipment might not be second rate but the speed at which they deploy NV is. Just compare the progress of Chicago and Washington/Baltimore. Both first round NV markets yet Washington/Baltimore have a ton of sites without lte where as almost all of Chicago have lte. Ni really hate being in an AL market.
  22. I hope to here about the Iwatch. Way more interested in that than anything they are likely come out with in a new ipad. I think that is wishful thinking on my part.
  23. It's not really any deferent than an early term fee. If you pay off the phone over the two years you pay 88 more for the phone over the two years. Or 3.5 a month more the down side isn't that great. The cost of cancellation is higher that's all.
  24. You misunderstand what the subsidy is for. It is not to give you the customer A discount on a phone or service, it's to make you the customer more "sticky" to the carrier. The discount is a secondary effect, you the customer choose this option because you are willing to be more "sticky" to the carrier for a cheaper phone. It's a trade that both carrier and customer are willing to make. That is why the market functions this way and not another.
