  1. I should have been more clear, sorry clearwire *is able to* As I said in my second post 2 or 3 is more likely. The 100mhz was a clearwire marketing guy trumping up what they could do with there network in response to a question about competing with the big 2.
  2. yep but its td so its a big 100mhz slice not 50x50 clearwire says they can then allocate capacity to the up and down link as needed. Now just because clear can have a 100mhz slice dosen't mean they will do it. Most of what I have read from Clearwire interviews was 2 or 3 20mhz channels bonded. Apparently bonding much more than that has a drag on efficiency. The point is however that spectrum is the least of Sprints concerns. More pressing is getting the money to pay for all of this.
  3. 3g is not active in the athens/atlanta market so that would be expected I believe, I was going to map out coverage of that tower for everyone tomorrow and those LTE speeds are downright sexy. For those worried about capacity issues with sprint Clearwire has said they can aggregate a 100mhz channel with LTE advance next year with only a software upgrade required after a tower has the LTE equipment and they have an average of 160 mhz of spectrum nationwide, about what att and Verizon have combined.
  4. Could you tell me which tower you connected to? On the tower map it will have a cascade ID that starts with AT. If I know which tower I can map out the signal
  5. I lived in an official market as well the last 2 years (Cleveland) and didn't know what everyone was complaining about. We ended up using it for office internet as well DSL was maxed out at 1.5mbs and TWC wanted 8 grand and a 2 year contract at 200 a month for cable internet. We got 15-20 down 2 up for 35 bucks a month no contract from clear to go along with the evo 4g for everyone in the office.
  6. There was a issue about CDMA activations a few years ago. Verizon claimed that untested devices could cause interference issues with there network, however they agreed to test any manufactures phone they otherwise wouldn't carry and approve it for its network, after that I have not heard of a single phone that had gone through the process. Because the Nexus is already approved on both Sprint and Verizon's network If google wanted to sell them I don't think that the carriers would raise to much of an issue with it. edited for link http://www.zdnet.com/blog/btl/verizon-wireless-hopes-to-reel-in-developers-will-publish-network-technical-details/7146?tag=content;siu-container apparently sprint is part of the open handset alliance, sounds good but a review of there discussion boards has employees saying if you want to use another phone you have to figure out how to activate it yourself as they will not help or support anything. Duffman is a sprint employee right? he could have some insight
  7. 5.3.1 Cell status and cell reservations Cell status and cell reservations are indicated with the Cell Access Restriction Information Element in the System Information Message [3] by means of three Information Elements: - Cell barred (IE type: "barred" or "not barred") In case of NW sharing, this IE is common for all PLMNs - Cell Reserved for operator use (IE type: "reserved" or "not reserved") In case of NW sharing, this IE is specified per PLMN - Cell reserved for future extension (IE type: "reserved" or "not reserved") In case of NW sharing, this IE is common for all PLMNs. When cell status is indicated as "not barred", "not reserved" for operator use and "not reserved" for future extension (Cell Reservation Extension), - All UEs shall treat this cell as candidate during the cell selection and cell re-selection procedures. When cell status is indicated as "not barred", "not reserved" for operator use and "reserved" for future extension (Cell Reservation Extension), - UEs shall behave as if cell status "barred" is indicated. When cell status is indicated as "not barred" and "reserved" for operator use, - UEs assigned to Access Class 11 or 15 shall treat this cell as candidate during the cell selection and cell re-selection procedures if the reservation is set to “reserved” for the UE’s HPLMN/EHPLMN and the cell belongs to the HPLMN or EHPLMN [4]. - UEs assigned to an Access Class in the range 0 to 9 and 12 to 14 shall behave as if cell status "barred" is indicated. Also UEs of AC 11 or 15 shall behave as if cell status "barred" is indicated if the cell reservation is not activated for the UE’s HPLMN/EHPLMN or if not camped on a cell of its HPLMN or EHPLMN. When cell status "barred" is indicated, - The UE is not permitted to select/re-select this cell, not even for emergency calls. - The UE shall ignore the "Cell Reserved for future extension (Cell Reservation Extension) use" IE. - The UE is not permitted to receive any MBMS services from that cell - The UE shall select another cell The cell selection of another cell may also include a change of RAT. We might be able to change the device class, I don't have my phone rooted nor msl yet to fool around EDIT * I think this is sent by SIB3 which wouldn't help us if they are using SIB1? I really don't know much about this but its a nice brake from studying for property final
  8. 5.2.2.7 Actions upon reception of the SystemInformationBlockType1 message Upon receiving the SystemInformationBlockType1 message the UE shall: 1> if the frequency band indicated in the freqBandIndicator is not part of the frequency bands supported by the UE: 2> consider the cell as barred in accordance with TS 36.304 [4] and; 2> perform barring as if intraFreqReselection is set to 'notAllowed', and as if the csg-Indication is set to 'F ALSE''; 1> else: 2> forward the cellIdentity to upper layers; 2> forward the trackingAreaCode to upper layers; Looks like it would be telling the phone the cell tower is outside of the defined frequency range, I imagine that changing the frequency range value to include the value in the SIB1 could potentially give us access, I also would expect this to be in the phones radios which is not something you want to go playing around with unless you have lots of money to buy new phones after you brick them. I only watched half the video so if Im wrong or this is irrelevant I apologize.
  9. I could beat the 399 price just for you it assumes however that I will love the Evo (I have not unloved an HTC device before). The nexus however is the first Samsung phone I have ever liked.
  10. I will give you a great deal on mine around June 10th
  11. In the premier sponsors forum there are maps with construction dates for each tower in 10 or so markets that are being worked on now/soon. Robert likely can better explain what the other map means but I will try. The map represents information regarding which towers are active with what. If the Tower says 3g than information says 3g is up but not 4g yet and vis versa "may" is used for all because Robert is likely limited on time to visit each site to confirm personally each site. His information is reliable however and many of the sites have otherwise been confirmed by others. So if you do find a site working make sure to tell everyone in the forum
  12. I did just realize from reading that article that Sprint is going to be the only one with any international roaming on LTE with the 2.5ghz that is unless ATT and Verizon decide to put it in there phones, which I doubt.
  13. Sites upgraded may have to do with equipment as well, I recall a clearwire exec. saying that alot of there later basestations were software upgradable to handle LTE. http://www.clearwire.com/company/featured-story "Its WiMAX antennas and radios could pull duty for the LTE network, and on the base station side, Clearwire could easily upgrade to WiMAX [LTE?] with software, adding more baseband processing line cards to support LTE’s new capacity" http://www.lte-tdd.org/newsdetail/399
  14. There is no limit that I know of, we still get signal from the voyager spacecraft outside of our solar system. EMF is light, as long as you can collect enough of it to differentiate it from background light in that frequency you would be able to have "signal" I made a random cell tower for you with 100 mile radius so you can see the piratical limits with a cell phone https://cloudrf.com/gallery/index.php?id=43699
  15. I do hope its true, just not getting excited until I see it from a more trustworthy source.
  16. The radius on the map is just a cut of point for the calculation. How far the coverage goes depends on tower height, weather, your phone, conductivity of the ground, height of phone, interference, and many others I cant think of right now. For line of sight potentially could get signal until the curvature of the earth blocks your los with the right equipment.
  17. The have written of 31billion of the merger off and paid approx 2.8 Billion in cash Edited million to Billion
  18. While I understand that Sprint would not have gotten all of the spectrum Tmobile did get a substantial chunk of the AWS. Had sprint participated Im sure it would have gone for more but considering how much they paid for Nextel they likely would have been better off and had more spectrum.
  19. DIdn't sprint pay something like 38 Billion for nextel? That would have been enough to buy every license for both the AWS and 700mhz auctions which brought in a total 33 billion
  20. I would be willing to bet that they will have refurbs for quite some time. At least some people will be doing trade ins of working phones they don't just throw them away I imagine they will be sold as refurbs on sprints site at some point as well as giving assurion and HTC a source of replacements.
  21. I read all the posts here instead of studying for law school exams
  22. At release there will be no official 4g lte markets. Some sites may be up and operating but going through testing. The last thing sprint needs right now is angry customers expecting lte coverage on a map and not getting it. Instead sprint is simply saying LTE will be available by mid year in particular markets. Also if early maps are released for particular projected coverage areas and it turns out after testing that area has changed I can see people getting even more upset just because a computer says there will be coverage doesn't mean in the real world it will be there. http://www.sprint.com/landings/lte/index.html?ECID=vanity:lte
