Wow...never could pull that with my Voyager when I had it, even though I had perfect signal with low load. Maybe Clear has throttled such devices in the past and is now removing those caps? I had no problem getting 12-plus Mbps with the Clear Hub in the same location.

  2. The round table format ate hairy spiders when drunk. Its towers became bloated after swallowing a mouthful of baby formula. The baby ate his poisoned barbeque chicken ribs without A1 steak sauce. Fix the chair leg before somebody trips and breaks their sister's glass. It peed shards of LTE droppings from bubbly fermented apples. Doctors gouge the helpless when options appear dangerously silly for perpendicular slicing. Around 2pm there was another explosive diarrhea attack that drove Dan to SMS SoftBank, which viciously countered MetroPCS;s audacity to compete. Meanwhile, Mexicans discovered sparkly water of Rio which tasted like rainbows. LightSquared, however, beamed sparkly clusters of spectrum at GPS, causing multitudes of bananas being paranoid about world domination. This exacerbated an enormous flock of pelicans into your mother's house. Then seagulls confronted Darla with weapons manufactured in Korea that annihilated Kim Kardashian. She fell backwards after drinking highly intoxicating tequila shots. Uncoincidentally, she tripped over and fell on her face, then vomited major chunks of beef jerky

I thought we all used "S4GRUFTW" as our WiFi password? Oh well.

I use FBIsurveillance as my SSID's. Even though it provides no real additional security, I like the concept of messing with peoples minds. Additionally, I don't think most people want to jump on a WiFi titled FBIsurveillance. I even use that SSID on my Tmo and VZW hotspots. I wish I could see all the reactions of people who have come across it.

My new Airport Express's WiFi password actually has the word "S4GRU" in it... :o

  4. My dad recently passed 90 days of service. He called CS and was transferred to the International Department, who instantly gave him the International Unlock upon his request. He told me this morning, and I asked him if he's synced the phone yet. He said no. So I synced it for him, and sure enough, the majestic "Congratulations, your phone has been unlocked!" appeared in iTunes. I stuck an inactive AT&T micro-SIM inside, and got the Invalid SIM message. It said to contact the carrier. I wish the FCC would do something about this phone locking business. It decreases the resale value of the phone and creates fragmentation in the market.

    Example of this:

A family friend of ours got a Verizon iPhone 4. They are with Sprint, and the phone's intended user had recently dropped her Rumor Touch in the toilet. They actually had no idea it was Verizon. When they received the phone, Sprint refused to activate it. Now they have a $250 paperweight. She uses it on WiFi though.

  5. Just one more place that gets LTE before Phoenix :P

Assuming that bars(1x/3G) and LTE is coming from the same tower, signal strength seems to be quite good(dependent on how far off the coast she was).

iPhone 5 shows signal strength of LTE or highest data connection available.

I didn't find that at all.

I was in Atlantic City this past weekend and usually in the middle of the casinos Sprint looses its signal. Verizon must have installed some type of repeater system because they have solid signal through out.

My iPhone 5 immediately hopped onto Verizon when the signal (while still showing Sprint service) was showing 1 bar. Never did It show (or I never saw) a searching for service message. I even changed the settings so it would not roam and a Sprint signal reappeared. I switched it back to allow roaming and bang, the "extended" message showed up.

Overall I was happy as the iPhone 5 seemed content to stay roaming and didn't kill the battery constantly looking for a native signal.

Oh, it does kill the battery looking for native service. Believe me. The native signal at one of my good friend's house is very weak, and the iPhone will usually roam. But I once spent the entire day there helping him with some home improvement, and my phone was flat out dead by 3PM.

This is my area. There is a cable competitor (Cox), but their areas don't overlap, so I wouldn't exactly call it competition at all. They just cover the same geographic City. Cox covers Tucson proper, Comcast serves the rest of Pima county. Centurylink is here, but since it was Qwest, all of the equipment is old and maxed at around 25Mbps, but 90% of the area isn't capable of anything above 12Mbps, and my house is at a terrible 2Mbps maximum.

On top of that my Comcast bill runs around $160 a month for 250 channels with DVR/HD (most of which I don't watch because they are crap, seriously thinking of going cable-free for a year to try it) and 25/3.5 internet.

There are still a lot of Comcast-only areas, where VZ fiber doesn't reach, but the prices are still good. We wouldn't be able to afford smartphones with a cable bill over $90...

Not quite. We could call it indirect fiber. I have copper from my box into the house. About a 250' run. Also, Windstream does not offer fiber residential service. All their residential service is maxed at 12Mbps/768kbps around the country, even if it is capable of greater speeds. Supposedly, Windstream is going to increase those caps to 24/2 in places that can support it. Which I assume mine can since I have fiber to the Windstream box out on the highway.

Copper can be just as good as fiber sometimes. Especially when their is a competitor. I was paying $100 or so to FiOS, when I realized Comcast had much better deals- 50Mbps for $30, 30Mbps for $20, 300 channels for $30 (no HD). So I now pay $50 for TV and 30Mbps Internet. I had 15/5 from VZ and 150 channels before.

  9. Well, it's supposed to. Things get funny with upgrades, sometimes. I've seen them be all over the place for seemingly no reason, including people signing up for new service, with a contract - and an immediate upgrade date, despite a subsidized phone.

Yeah, my parents got the Samsung Replenish as their first Sprint phones. Someone told them that it was a horrible phone, so they were planning to return it. They went onto the Sprint site and it said they were eligible for an upgrade. They got 4Ses. The Samsungs are sitting in a box somewhere.

  10. Interesting. I did not know that a partial SIM unlock was possible. It must still lock out SIMs from other carriers with 310 and 311 MCCs.

    AJ

Yeah, they've been doing it since last December. Now, I wonder, if there is any way to bypass that.

  11. Fan of freedom to do what I want with the device I paid for. I could care less what it is called or what it has a picture of on it.

I agree with that completely, but don't believe it's worth losing the simplicity and reliability of iOS.

That's what I want for Christmas- a simple and reliable mobile OS that allows you to do whatever you want. Oh and that iPad.

  12.

Too bad it's not a domestic unlock. And I'm stuck with a spending limit until I can pay my bill on time for 18 months straight so if you don't have one, you are doing much better than me!

I'm on day 63 of Sprint service. 27 more to go!

  13. All I want for Christmas is for people to slap themselves when they talk nonsense about buying into the fruit cult. I have saved two people this season some money and frustration so far.

Second then I want is the tower a few miles away with panels and RRUs to fire up so I can put the purple on the map!
