  1. I got a question about 8T8R radio heads. I know this has probably been answered before but I couldn't find it on the boards so my advanced apologies.

Once 8T8R radios are installed and running, will wimax be taken down in order to accommodate the new RRHs? Or will both technologies run alongside each other until the end of 2015?

Wimax is already in the process of being phased out and will probably be gone completely by the end of 2015. 8t8r equipment being currently deployed does not support wimax and is (for the most part) being overlayed on Sprint's current NV footprint. Clearwire legacy sites currently have either dual B41 / Wimax or Wimax only equipment. These sites will eventually be converted to full NV builds with 8t8r or will be consolidated with co-located or nearby NV sites upgraded with 8t8r.
  2. Biggest problem with sprint customers is the execution of what they think the network should done at . They want all this done yesturday and think network will not improve.

There is some truth to that, but I kind of think most people who had that mindset have left Sprint already, especially in the fallout from service disruptions when NV/deployment was at its peak, when dropped calls and data outages were rampant. A good example of the majority of current sprint subs (i.e. John Q Public) would be my parents. They shrugged off the issues with the network last year and have zero complaints with the service they receive now.

The ones that complain currently are the 3% that either can never be happy no matter what service they have, or are still in markets that are experiencing issues with upgrades or are in affiliate areas that kind of suck (nTelos, Swiftel).

Just my take. I think most sprint subs understand that the network is improving every day. But sometimes you just can't please everyone, and that's life.

  3. I just flew into Kansas City for the weekend, it will be interesting to see how Chicago and KC markets compare. Already latched on to B26 at the airport. I'll be staying a few minutes from Sprint HQ in Overland Park. So my expectations are high!

  4. Where u at? Suburbs?

Yeah, NW burbs in Fox River Grove. Also noticed my local Clearwire B41 tower has been offline for the last 2 weeks. Its actually the closest tower to my house so I'm hoping they convert it it full NV, along with the deactivated USCC site that is right down the block.
  5. Many hundred(s) (if not thousands) of sites across the nation were taken offline for one reason or another at around June. Many areas that had B41 broadcasting from Clear sites have now simply vanished from the air.

Woah, I've been wondering why I haven't been able to connect to my local Clear B41 tower the last couple weeks... I wonder what they are up to.
  6. I have that same exact black Polo shirt in your pic. Although it makes me look fat. Or maybe it's the friend chicken that makes me look fat. Emmm...fried chicken...drool...

What were we talking about again?

    Robert

Its actually my favorite collared shirt. And I think it's rather slimming on the contrary. Also, now I have a taste for chicken.. So I'm about to order some chicken and waffles at brunch for my sister's birthday. Brunch Café, one of the best places in the NW burbs for breakfast, I highly recommend.
  7. So In my area they have been throwing up a lot of towers. I can think of 3-4 off the top of my head, with 1 to be built per my local newspaper (which was almost shot down by the village, but a compromise was reached to make it into a pine tree antenna).. however most of the ones already up don't even have equipment on them. I'm really hoping sprint is putting up equipment on at least some of them because service is pretty spotty up in the far NW suburbs. Is anyone aware of an aggressive buildout by a particular carrier in the area?

  8. You guys seriously talking about a nationalized telecom infrastructure? Have you seen the state of our transportation system in this country? Its horrendous. Wireless is making the industry way more competitive, even compared to the wire line days. Even if wireless operators are mostly at the mercy of competitors providing back haul and economic barriers that can be overcome by innovation is not reason enough to nationalize. You can say goodbye to innovation if uncle Sam runs the pipes that carry the goods. If the owners of telecom capital infrastructure aren't profit motivated there will be no way we can see the next breakthrough in technology for broadband delivery. No competition to one up the competitor. And no innovation to drive new economically viable ways to deliver broadband and competing wireless services to underserved areas means the ones paying for delivery of new services with current technology would be taxpayers.

  9. I guess I never really viewed signing a 2 year contract and using the device purchased with for the full 2 years before upgrading again to be "cheaping out". If the landscape of the market has changed I would expect the industry's whole 2 year contracts thing to go the way of the VCR.

At least you aren't in as bad of a boat as my parents and sister. They all got iPhone 4's a year ago when we upgraded. Still rocking the 3G. I got the GS3 at the time like you did, and I bought the Nexus 5 full price back in December with some xmas money after I found out B41 was live at my school. Made a world of difference.

  10. I saw a crew taking down what I assume to be old USCC or Nextel equipment on a tower in Lake Barrington today. I'm really hoping that when they take the USCC equipment down on the water tower near me Sprint will take over the lease and put up NV. There's no Sprint tower in Fox River Grove (with the exception of a Clear B41 site) and the other carriers all have equipment on that water tower, so service is pretty spotty. Do we know of any sites from USCC that Sprint has or will take over? I know it wasn't in the agreement to take over the sites, but I'm hoping they do take over this one in particular.

  11. Apologies if this was asked before and/or is buried in this thread/in some other thread. But can the Nexus 5 support WiFi calling? And will they count against my voice minutes? (Yes, I'm still on one of those 1500 min unlimited data family plans)

  12. As a workaround I guess I can pull out the good old spectrum analyzer every now and again. As of 4 weeks ago in the tower near me in Lisle neither the band 26 LTE nor the 2nd LTE on the band 25 were lit up. Does anyone know a procedure on the Android Engineering Debug LTE screen or otherwise, to determine if the 2nd LTE on band 25 is active. It would be far more convenient than the spectrum analyzer.

I believe the UL and DL channels are different than what is usually observed on the original carrier. Not sure what the values are but I know there are screen shots of it further back in the thread.
  13. Holy s-#t. At Universal! 2 months ago I was embarrassed to be on Sprint here. Wowmy5ejyna.jpg

Last time I was at Universal a couple months ago I could barely connect to B41. I wonder if they upgraded or added a site on property?

  14. eCSFB is not enabled for B26 in Manchester, TN at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival. However, being on the .15 modem on the Nexus 5, I can access the B26 carrier sporadically depending on B25 signal strength (B25 is pretty much unusable due to 60,000+ people at the festival). Network management is likely not integrated yet either. Pretty awesome when I am on B26 I probably am only sharing it with a handful of Sprint iPhone 5s/5c users, so my data is usable even when my friend on At&t (which has like 6 COWS here) is still spotty at best with data.

  15. I'm at a huge music festival currently and I've noticed that my phone sits on the useless B25 carrier when I know B26 is available. I basically have to death grip my phone for it to switch, and then a few minutes later of a perfectly usable connection, I get shunted back to B25, even with B26 on 1st priority. Is it possible that network management isn't fully integrated here yet? And yes, I'm back in EricssonLand...

  16. I hadn't realized that there were ever any GMOs in the Chicago market, as I've never seen one, and as far as I know, none had been scheduled. Do you think then that most of the 3G-only sites left are GMOs?

We didn't receive GMO schedules for every market. And even many of the ones we did did not hold. Just ask the Nebraska and Iowa markets. I know there are several GMOs in the Kansas market that were never scheduled.
