  1. This is true. Especially with the iPhone. Most people head to the a apple store when considering an iPhone purchase.

I think most apple folks already know they will get an iPhone and are just in the store to be part of the iCrowd.

  2. Yeah, welcome to the world where you pay for your mobile device. It is much like the world where you pay for your car, tv or anything else. If you move to the middle of SF or New York and the car your financing becomes impractical you sell it and move on with your life.

With this change to paying for your phone, shouldn't the monthly service fee go down to compensate and ETFs go away? It frustrates me that I don't think either happened... Except on T-mobile.

  3. Ive heard on other forums a LOT of AT&T customers calling in, mentioning the tmobile deal, and being offered TONS of incentives to stay - all without requiring any contract extensions

Is Sprint doing the same? Or is the credit purse still tight?

Sprint doesnt seem to understand that they need to make their current customers happy. It pays off in the long term. So many purchasing decisions are made thanks to recommendations between family and friends. You need your customers to be advocates of your brand, not disgruntled.

Definitely agree. Sprint used to be the best at this. Back in 2001-2006 they used to have their retention department call me (even though I never filed compliaints) and ask what I wanted. They would then give me options like 500 extra minutes a month, earlier nights and weekends, etc. This made me feel special and made me feel that if I left, I would be screwed. You don't know how many people I made into Sprint customers as a result of this.

Then, Sprint came up with their Premier status where they offered perks and the ability to upgrade every year. Talk about not wanting to leave Sprint!

Now I feel Sprint just feels like i/we are safe customers and that they should do anything in their power to get people off discount/special plans. This definitely doesn't make me feel like I am a valued customer of 13 years.

I hope Sprint goes back to the basics in this shake up. Unfortunately, my company recently laid off about 50% of its folks and we ended up with the older/not flexible people who got us into this mess so they need to go through it right. I believe a very flat level organization would do wonders for Sprint.

  4. What do the trucks look like? Hoping to spot one myself in my area.

Sprint is using NX Utilities for backhaul in the OC area. There website is here:

The trucks look similar to this but usually instead of a lift in the back, they have a bunch of huge spools of fiber:

I believe that Cox and AT&T are also used for some of the backhaul down here but I can't confirm that.

  5. Sadly, I think those numbers are way off. It wouldn't surprise me if they lose 2-3x those numbers. Now I'm debating rather to sell my shares and buy them back at a lower price.

I think you are right about the lost subscribers. T-mobile recently reported gaining something like 1.6 million customers and said that the majority of those ports were from Sprint. :-(

  6. SON doesn't mean anything n Samsung phones as it is broke. I had a samsung galaxy s3 next to a Nexus 5 and they both consistently received the same high speed test score. I checked SCR and the Samsung had a really chappy one and the nexus 5 one was a champ.

stupid auto correct. SON AND SCR should have said SNR
  7. Also, question for my city folks. Anyone have troubles at Ogilvy station? I now work here at 500 W Madison and my Sprint service is awful. There are fully 4G enabled towers in each direction just a thousand or two feet away and I can't get an LTE signal at all. Im stuck on 3G only and its unuseably slow. Im seeing 3G SNR of 1-2 DB. Just doesn't seem right. Anyone else had issues at or around Ogilvy?

  8. I still find it stupid that HSPDA can't be called 4g with consumers. If it is as fast as LTE that other carriers offer, then I don't care if it doesn't meet some definition. I'm a tad disappointed with Sprint's coverage maps with are hard to use (outdated Web technology) and say that southern OC is covered in the new Spark network which is not true in the least. I'm very happy with Sprint and the work they have done with NV but that is no reason to lie.

  9. Impressed. I made a big bet on both Sprint and Tmobile and have over 50% profit. I actually made more investing than working. My reasoning for buying Sprint still holds regardless of if the merger occurs so I am in for the long haul (another couple years) . My price target is $25 and at least the same price to earnings ratio as Verizon since the market tends to over compensate for momentum runs.

  10. So I ordered a Nexus 5 and I'll be getting it on Thursday. I called Sprint to ask about the SIM card issue, as I've heard multiple things from multiple people. The rep told me to order it online from Google Play but I don't see it anywhere. What's the real deal for this SIM? I want to be able to use it right away and not have to wait a week to get it in the mail. And will it connect to TD-LTE out of the box (I live in a Spark area) or is there any tinkering with it to be done first?

I think the best way to get a sim is to go to a sprint store. Some people have had some luck calling the International sprint line but I'm not sure many have actually received then in the mail even though the person on the line said they ordered one.

  11. I am concerned that without t-mobile the industry won't have as much competition as I've noticed sprint is now usually the last to do something uncarrier. But... I fear that we out t-mobile sprint will not last as T-mobile is stealing all of sprint's customers since it is the same minded customer base. Without free international roaming I'm not sure what I would do. I've been spoiled for too long.

  12. I know you guys have more experience with snr down in Chicago and how it effects signal and speeds. Do I want a lower snr or higher? My home tower is close to 20 the majority of the time.

I just picked up a new nexus 5 for my wife and I have the Galaxy s3. My Galaxy s3 in the same spot will have a low or negative SCR versus >30 on the Nexus 5 and we both receiver the same speeds on speedtest apps. I think the SAN on the Galaxy is broken but it doesn't matter.
