  1. I don't have a N5, but according to the map, LTE should work just fine. We don't have any 4G only towers, so you shouldn't get the tri-band phone issue. Milwaukee still has quite a few purple pins last I checked though (although sounds like they will be turning green shortly).

Well, i have been past a couple towers that have been marked 3g/4g complete, but was not able to pick up LTE. I will try again tonight on my way home from work, but updating profile and prl.

  2. What kind of signal strength are you guys getting on the nexus 5? I have been watching, and I almost never go past 2 bars of signal, and at that point I read somewhere around -70 to -89, at -90 it goes to one bar and sits there.

Does anyone normally see a strength good enough to hit 3-4 bars with this phone?

The N5 has been performing amazingly RF signal wise. I actually hit -52db the other day, which is the lowest i have ever seen on a device. My EVO LTE never went below -65 that i have seen. At home, im a solid -5db better than the evo, up to -10 to -12 depending where i am in the house. When they were testing LTE the other night, i actually saw full LTE bars in my house. Assuming the N5 shows LTE signal strength as bars. Can't wait till all the recently converted Waukesha towers get some LTE goodness.

  3. I have some interesting results to show. Like i said previously today, i started to get 1x800 last night like most of you. I was not able to get LTE though (inside house).

On my way to work this morning i held 1x800 all the way from my house, which is near Sunset and Grand ave in waukesha, all the way to 43 & Racine where i get on the on ramp. On the way home, i got 1xRTT until i forced it to toggle airplane mode at HWY59 & Racine.

Being the curious guy i am, i thought i would force my Nexus 5 to LTE only mode for the rest of the trip to see how long i could hold LTE for.

It looks like i held it ALL THE WAY home...didn't lose it once. Keep in mind, i don't believe this is a connection to any 4G accepted tower nearby...which there are not.

The interesting thing is, Signal Check did not list the connection as LTE. I ran a speedtest and got low results, but i did get a connection.

What do you make of the following screenshots?

  4. I think that you can? I have log-ins for both Tapatalk and S4GRU.  I know that Tapatalk gives you the option at the start to log in with your other credentials and then I think that filters through to the forums you click on as well.  I use the Tapatalk Pro as its worth the couple bucks.

I can create a tapatalk account using twitter, but i can not sign into S4GRU in tapatalk with with my twitter account.

  5. I live near the Goetz's driving range.  How can I tell if I'm picking up 800?  I have SignalCheck Lite and it show's I'm connecting 1xRTT.  Are RTT and 800 mutually exclusive? Will SigCkh Lite show 800 only if I'm actually connected to it?

I also have a LG G2, so maybe I'm not getting the 800 due to the CSFB issue?

Signal Check usually will show 1X 800 when connected to 800. There have been reports that it may show it as 1X RTT.

  6. Yea, it has been VERY quiet around Milwaukee for the past couple months in terms of actual acceptances. I think we will be getting a landslide of acceptances very soon. Just look at what happened in Madison. Within a matter of 1 week, pretty much all their sites have acceptances of one form or another.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm guessing that yes, a site has to be inspected by a Samsung/Sprint person to be 3G Accepted.

Im hoping the same thing. There have been no acceptances in the metro milwaukee area for 4-6 months. I really hope it comes beofore the end of the year!

  7. I would like to hear from others about the reported bulkiness of this case as well. And does anyone with the Ultra Fit case have issues with sharp edges? Quite a few Amazon reviews mention that.

I have Best Buy's version of the Seidio Surface case (BB calls their line "Platinum") on my EVO LTE, and it's exactly what I hope to find for the Nexus 5. Seidio says it is coming, but ETA is an unconvincing "hopefully by the end of the month". I checked Best Buy on Friday and was told they have no N5 accessories yet, and no idea when they would start arriving.

EDIT: I ended up grabbing a CruzerLite from Amazon, looks to be closest to what I want. Even if it isn't perfect, it will hold me over until I can check out a Seidio model. Just read that the company is basically a one-man operation and someone shared a private coupon code on SlickDeals that cost him $28k in just 3 hours.. ouch.

So what's the general consensus of the Spigen Neo-Hybrid case?  It looks to be thin and neat, but there have been a few posts here that said it's bulky...

I have the Neo Hybrid. At first i thought the case was huge, and that is coming from an EVO LTE with a Diztronic TPU case. I have got used to it, and i think if i dropped the phone the case would keep it pretty safe. I am a little paranoid from seeing a youtube video of the Nexus 5 drop test. It Insta-Shattered the front glass/screen.

  8. Every Samsung market is non-incumbent.

Could this be the reason why they're also pushing to complete as many sites as possible...? At least get the NV 3G side up so devices can go on LTE... hmmm

Here in the Milwaukee market, they were doing 4G only towers for about a month or two trying to get as many 4G towers up and running. Since then they are only activating towers as fully complete, and bringing them up in clusters.

  9. I traveled 25 miles outside of Raleigh and instantly got a strong LTE signal. I then kept that LTE signal for several hours in areas my EVO barely got signal and where I had no idea LTE even existed (super super rural areas). I traveled in and out of LTE areas for about another hour and the device performed handoffs flawlessly. I'm now getting LTE inside of a house where an iPhone 4S and a (older) blackberry have to step outside to keep a call from breaking up. I'm VERY VERY impressed.

This 100% confirms in my mind that the issue so many of us are seeing connecting to LTE is regional. I am absolutely confident that as soon as I get back to Raleigh I will go back to never seeing LTE again until Sprint fixes this. Which is disappointing, because the radio in this thing, especially on LTE is the best I have ever seen in my life, by far, but Sprint has something seriously screwed up in many parts of the country  keeping us from connecting.

I was thinking the same thing. Mostly mature markets are the ones who have the LTE signals on the Nexus.
