Now they just need to improve the 5x5 only areas and they other that still have Poor site spaceing so it drops to 3G. Last weekend I was in a area that only has 3-4 B41 towers. It was so slow uploading a photo failed.

I agree, just remember all macro sites will have triband lte so this will help

2018 is truly turning out to be a solid year for Sprint.
Exciting stuff.
Very happy the merger failed!
Me too. Sprint lives on!!!

Im sure Nokia’s and Ericsson’s Massive Mimo equipment are capable of the same thing.

This is the first phone with B26+B41 and B25+B41 carrier aggregation. Do we know if Sprint has this live in the field? This will solve the low upload speeds in areas with a weak B41 signal.
Soon I think. I believe Massive Mimo atennas are capable of TDD/FDD CA. According to Samsung their Massive Mimo Atennas will be capabale
“The new CDU 30, along with its new advanced LTE software features, will provide for Gigabit level speeds through features like TDD-FDD carrier aggregation, as well as inter-band FDD carrier aggregation with downlink support for 256QAM.”

I'm hoping for the best but I'm still very much a skeptic when it comes to Sprint. They are talking so much about 5G and they have not mastered 4G LTE yet. I hope they know what they are doing this time around.

I agree but I think the 5G rollout will be easier since most of sprint sites have the backhaul to support 5G.
More details of the 5G buildout process from John Saw: https://www.fiercewireless.com/5g/sprint-cto-parts-curtain-carrier-s-5g-buildout-process-goals-and-phones
I wonder if small cell vendors will ever make 5G small cells...I’m curious about that

Do you think sprint will turn on 4x4 MIMO and 256qam in coming weeks? Launch week of the s9?

So I’m guessing this is a loan they’ll have to pay back but under more favorable interest? I hope this 1.5b going towards the network. Each day Sprint kinda makes me nervous cause so much is riding on them his year. Failing to make commitment is not even an option.

They already announced they are raising CapEx and the network is a priority....did I miss anything else?

Yeah, plus a 8T8R "maxed out" should provide a ton of throughput. 4x4MIMO + 256QAM on 4 Carriers is almost 1Gbps for just that single sector. It might even be way more cost effective to just add additional sectors to the site or toss up another 8T8R antenna. I'd expect 64T64R to be extremely rare, especially if it is really expensive.
I think 4 carriers will be 1.2gbps. They accomplished 300mbps on a single b41 carrier. I’m excited to experience this!!! Now hopefully upload can be at least be 15-20mbps lol

I agree! From the faux VoLTE that I get on my iPhone after dropping off WiFi, I’m excited for the VoLTE. Sprint definitely has ALOT on their plate this year. I really want them to meet or exceed their plans.
Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkYeah they have a lot. I’m praying they execute flawlessly. Crazy to think 5G is next year.

The time has finally come!!!
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2018 is shaping up to be a huge year for Sprint. I dont know which one im more excited about. VoLTE or 4x4 mimo and 256qam lol

That's a good question. Small cells are supposed to help with the foundation to 5G. 5G will need more than 2x2 mimo and 64qam.

I would hope they are since they are only capable of 2xca. If they are in fact capable of 4x4 MIMO and 256qam then we should be ok.

Are Sprint Small cells/ Mini Macros 4x4 mimo & 256qam compatiable?

That's the thing about Sprint. They have so much they have not deployed that we have not even come close to seeing what they can really do yet. VoLTE, 4x4 MIMO, 256/64 QAM, 2XCA upload, 4xCA, 5xCA getting nearly every tower with b41 and now b25/41 CA and b26/41 CA plus b25/26 CA. Massive Mimo and 5G NR. They are not far behind the other carriers and none of this above is even active. What's going to happen when it is?

Would it ever make sense for Sprint to acquire Shentel or does the current affiliate agreement make more sense?
Makes sense. Shentel is paying for the network deployment for those specific areas. Less work for Sprint.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I think this is the fastest speed I’ve clocked to date:
241 mbps down—wow!
This is pretty impressive during rush hour time. Do you live in a large metropolitan area?

I just got my Magic Box (ordered it 2 days ago) and I have band 41 in my apt now! I used to pull 5-8 down on band 25 but now I’m averaging 42 down on band 41
i live in an apartment so my neighbors with Sprint will benefit too!

Im reading all of sprint network announcements from last year and I stumbled across this “In Plano, Texas, Sprint and Ericsson also recently tested Ericsson’s 64T64R Massive MIMO radios reaching peak speeds of more than 300 Mbps using a single 20 MHz channel of 2.5 GHz spectrum.” [Source]
does this mean that 3XCA with massive mimo can deliver 900mbps? And once sprint activates 5xca later this year that means 1.5gbps?
I didn’t pay much attention to their press releases last year because the merger talks overshadowed anything else Sprint announced IMO.

They are really going all in on the 5G things, look at whats sitting on the stage!! Its a Massive Mimo antenna, not to mention the banners.
I didn’t know the antenna was that small. I wonder how much it cost

Yes the S9 supports it. 25+41+41
26+41+41. Doesn't do 25+26+41 tho. It makes since tho as B41 will be download under this. 25+25+26 also

Nice. I’m happy they are rolling this out this year. I just hope the new iPhone will be compatible!

Network Highlights:
- An increase of the total number of macro sites by nearly 20%.
- Triband service on nearly every macro on their network with the majority of tower upgrades expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
-
40,000 small cells to be deployed.
-
15,000 are strand mounts
- Strand mounts are already beginning to be deployed in Altice's Long Island footprint.
-
15,000 are strand mounts
- Rollout of interband carrier aggregation.
-
Rollout of Massive MIMO
- Worth it because nearly all of their customers will be able to take advantage of massive MIMO antennas.
- They are software upgradeable to 5G-NR so they can run 5G and LTE simultaneously.
- They believe that Sprint is the best positioned to be the first carrier with a nationwide 5G platform despite claims by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.
- The expect to provide commercial 5G devices, mobile and otherwise, in the first half of 2019.
Is interband CA, CA between TD&FDD

Have you guys noticed any new sites since the Altice deal?

Well, now that they have Altice and Cox, I'm hopeful they will sign with Charter Spectrum next. Having two decent sized cable companies on board may help to convince the others to join in.
Agreed but I think Charter will like to see results first plus aren’t they already partnering with Verizon?

I have seen permits in my city 3 weeks straight for b41 equipment when there was no permits for over 18 months so if that's just here I think this year is going to be a good year to watch Sprint. What I don't understand is at the last conference they said they waited so long to build out 2.5 is so they wouldn't have to go back to towers but then they are deploying thousands of mini macros that are not future proof(no 2xCA and no 4x4 Mimo)that means you have to go back eventually and replace with full builds.
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
i thought mini macros do have 2xca?

Keep in mind Sprint is parterning with Altice which they cover the whole Tristate area. I would assume upgrades are on the way.
