ok, so some of the issues that some of you have mentioned I have had the same problems and most of them I just deal with for now.

The phone works great besides the hiccups we all have experienced basically since the spark update.

I love this phone but I am almost wondering if the N5 is a better phone all around besides the better rf. Are most of you confident that KK update will fix these issues? If you are not are you willing to stick with this phone or wait for G3 or go to  N5? I really dont want to switch phones so I just wish we can get some clarity on really what KK will bring to the problems with this phone. So can any one of you honestly say you want to stick around and wait for this update or willing to jump phones?

I'm sort of on the fence with switching phones as well.  I love this phone, but the RF performance is shaky at times for me, and I live on the edge of Sprint native service.  Also, I keep having issues with 3G completely cutting out whenever it wants even at healthy signal levels. 

I am definitely gonna give the KitKat update a chance though.  It appears as though it comes with a new baseband, so maybe it will solve some of my issues.  Otherwise I have been looking at the N5 or M8, if needed.  Probably N5 since it would be a lot less $ and has the superior RF performance.

On the western side of campus in Madison, and I picked up some B26!  Will post screenshots later after work.  Noticed roughly a 12-15 dBm gain vs. B25 in my office.  It's coming!  (Note:  it almost immediately went away, so probably in testing.  Or it just kicked me off of B26 and put me back on B25 since I get a B25 signal in my office... however it is rather weak at -110 to -118 dBm)

I would hope, but as each minute goes by the chances are probably fading.  From some research (a very small amount) it appears that Sprint typically announce OTAs by 11am eastern time on their forums, with a few exceptions though. 

If not today, then I would certainly expect, and hope, it to be on Monday.

So ive been getting the " unable to establish a data connection" error, but on on 3g. LTE works fine, any one else experience this?

Yeah I get that quite often while on 3G.  Sometimes a very good signal too.  Has been that way for me since the last update.  I'm hoping the KitKat update addresses that.

That seems about right.  There have been more than a couple sightings in that area.  Congrats...  Now if it can just spread to the Baraboo/Dells area, I would be a happy camper as well. 

I heard the HTC One Max is receiving KitKat via OTA today for Sprint... 

Doesn't look good for us.  Although, I noticed that the Sprint page for the One Max still hasn't updated to show that the OTA was being rolled out.  So who knows...

Question for all:  Do you think when all of this gets setup that Sprint will drop the Verizon roaming agreement?  I feel like that may be there next step in this to save some extra money. 

In my area at least, they certainly could.  Whenever I roam, it is on US Cellular currently.  I would love to be able to get LTE in the boonies too!  It truly sucks being on the edge of Sprint's native service.  This would resolve everything for me... 

Now I need to not get all excited until we hear the details and get a timeline.

Big takeaway from it is that Son is promising big Sprint commitment to make partnership happen.  Promising Sprint will offer financial support for Companies that join to build out infrastructure they need.

Yes, Band 26 device work with LTE on the Cellular band. So Sprint Triband and Dualband devices can run on USCC Band 5 if opened up.

I certainly hope this pans out and that US Cellular gets on board with Sprint.  They would need to reassess the roaming allocation though since 100 MB won't get you far. 

It would immediately help out SW Wisconsin and NE Iowa.  While not completely filling in the gaps in Wisconsin, US Cellular has by far the best coverage in the area.  Some of those areas without LTE in SW Wisconsin are in very remote areas with a lot of decent hills and bluffs.  Below I compare the Sprint and US Cellular 4G LTE Coverage:

Quick question: I know US Cellular has been deploying 850 LTE along with their 700 LTE...  Will our band 26 handsets connect to 850?  I believe the spectrum for band 26 encompasses band 5, but I'm not completely sure how that all works.

I think I may give in and root my G2.  Pretty sure whenever I root it and start tweaking everything is when Sprint will finally start rolling out the KitKat update... 

It appears that I've got quite a bit stronger signal and faster data speeds (again) on the west side of UW Madison campus by Camp Randall. Seems like the power has been turned up on the local towers?? Believe me it's not a placebo, I check signals and strength every morning on my drive in. Seems to hold higher LTE signal and stronger 1x800 dBm. I'm also bouncing to a few other towers I don't normally see on my drive in. Perhaps they're back working on the remaining downtown towers finally?

 

(I have no way of collecting the Band26 if it pops up here yet)

I work right in the area you described above, and I haven't really noticed anything different.  On my daily commute along University Ave I have been able to maybe pull in LTE a little bit more, but nothing extremely noticeable.  I keep hoping they would add a cell site on the hill on Hwy 12 between Sauk City and Middleton, but that probably won't ever happen.  (sick of the dropped calls!  1x800 ALMOST gets the job done, but not quite)

I keep hoping to look down at my phone one day and notice a higher LTE signal in my office by the way of B26.  On B25 I hold a fringe signal, typically around -115 dBm.  The day will come though. 

Hey all, I just got my G2 and am having an issue. I am in a legacy market (hopefully being upgraded) and have noticed my phone is dropping ehrpd data connection with relative frequency. My evo 4g LTE dropped evdo from time to time but it seems more frequent on my g2. It only lasts for a couple of seconds but it seems to be happening much more frequently. In my house I'm between two towers so I figured that was it but it's happening even when there's only 1 tower I could reasonably be connected to. Voice never drops and stays consistent, it's just 3g data that seems to drop on occasion even with a very strong signal.

I have been getting that as well whenever I'm on 3G lately.  It seemed to me at least that it started around the time of the last OTA update.  Maybe the new baseband within the KitKat update will improve things... 

and even verizon has now beaten sprint with the kit kat update....... sigh

Where did you hear that? I just searched and only found one article that doesn't seem that reliable. If it is rolling out for Verizon, you would think there would be more buzz.

Do you also find 3G is much slower now then before the Spark update?

Not really. With a weak signal it is pretty bad of course, but it has always been like that. A decent 3G signal still gives me around 2 meg. I do live in an area without many Sprint customers though. I wouldn't be surprised if my wife and I are typically the only ones on our local tower.

Since the Spark update, I for one, believe the radio is worse. Far worse. I receive 3G when others receive LTE all the time. Also, there is no comparison between 3G before the Spark update and after the Spark update. After the Spark update, 3G is extremely sloooooow. Slow as a snail.

Unfortunately I agree with you. My wife has the same phone as me, and I received the update before her. During that time while out and about she consistently held on to a LTE signal while I was stuck on 3G.

Hopefully the KitKat update will also address some of the shortcomings with the radio. It does include a new baseband as well.

I have been with Sprint for roughly 3 months or so.  I actually made the switch from Verizon primarily based on the information I received from this site.  I was interested in my first 4G LTE phone (I'm in IT, and yes I waited that long...), since my previous phone with Verizon was an iPhone 4S through my employer at the time. 

While switching jobs, I knew I wanted to avoid Verizon mainly because of their pricing and their data caps.  There coverage is probably the best in my area (South Central WI), but I just didn't like them.  Hard to explain... 

Honestly, if where I live we had AT&T or T-Mobile, I probably would've given them a shot with a Nexus 5 (so I could switch if needed and not be on a contract), but neither covers my current city.  That left me with Sprint or US Cellular (which with their pricing and data tiers now thinks they are Verizon's little cousin or something), so I went with Sprint since this site provided me with the reassurance that Sprint will soon have 800 LTE. 

Currently, I guess I can't complain about my coverage, but at the same time it is nothing to brag about.  Sprint has one tower in my city of 12,000+ which doesn't really get LTE all throughout the town (some areas even only get 1x800, no 3G too).  If I am in any sort of building I usually only can pick up a VERY weak 3G signal, in some places unusable.  Most of this hopefully will be resolved by the tower in town and another tower approximately 6 miles away but located on one of the biggest hills around here that provides a great range of 1x 800 and even 1x1900 getting 800 LTE.  I also should mention that I live in the "edge" of Sprint's native coverage, so I roam if going 10 miles to the west.  I knew this in advance though, so other areas fully within their coverage are probably a lot better.

I work in Madison, WI and things are definitely better here.  LTE in most parts of the city, but there are a few areas that drop you down to 3G.  I am almost positive that the holes here will be covered when the 800 LTE upgrades are complete. 

Overall though, it isn't too bad.  I knew when I signed up that I would have to deal with some of the growing pains still. 

I used to come home and have 76%-78% and that is from 6:00am when I take it off the charger to 6:00pm when I come home. Since this Spark update, I get home and the battery icon is orange, begging to be charged.

 

I know the Spark kicked in two more antenna's and now it is tri-band, which is most likely the reason for a HUGH difference in battery length. Is this something that can be corrected with a software update or it is just the world we have to live in since tri-band is now enabled on the phone?

I feel for those of you with the battery issues. I haven't had any problems with the new update. Last took my G2 off the charger yesterday at 7am and I currently have 58% remaining. Not bad for 35 hours of use. Haven't been using it heavily though, but normal usage. Lots of web surfing and calls and texts.

The way I see it is that you at least need a bachelors nowadays (too many experienced older workers and people with higher level degrees these days taking all the jobs lol).

I ended up only getting an Associates degree for Web and Software development.  Graduated last spring (went after many (fun but wasteful) years off.  Was easy as hell to find a job in my area.  After 7 months at my first place of employment, I ended up getting an offer at the University of Wisconsin - Madison as a PeopleSoft developer. 

In my opinion (in IT, at this moment) an Associates is plenty to get yourself in the door at a reputable employer.  I may take advantage of the 100% tuition reimbursment to persue my Bachelors down the road (I started off at UW - Madison and have all of my gen eds done.  I just switched majors a ton and wanted to get the hands on experience of a Technical college to make sure it was something I could do for the next 30+ years.)

Bachelors of course will probably pay out more over your lifetime.  But, I have found numerous employers around here that prefer 2-year degrees because it is MUCH more hands on. 

I sideloaded the update, complete eye sore on the spinning Walmart as its being referred.

 

After doing a profile update, my bands are showing 25:1 26:2 41:3. Does this seem right?

Mine are showing up as 26-1 41-2 25-3...  Did you reboot?  Also to those wondering...  I went for a little ride around my small town and LTE on band 25 doesn't seem like it is any better.  I was hoping for at least a little better signal, but nothing noticeable.  Maybe even a little worse. 

It certainly isn't anything scientific...  Hopefully it is just a fluke.

I'm not waiting up to 10 days lol. Never used ADB before but im going to update it using that or brick my phone trying. My struggle.

I just successfully got the update to install by the steps squigey outlined before.  It took a little bit of research on ADB...  (Installing the Android SDK etc)  But if you need some links to help you get through it, let me know. 

Sad part is I'm a web developer and actually have created some pretty crappy Android apps for a class a few years back.  I shouldn't have struggled with this as much as I did. 

First time trying to sideload an update.  I have the drivers installed, but I am not seeing how I can access the phone's folders?  Except for the pictures and media if I select that when I first plug it in.

Milwaukee market must be pretty close to being announced.  Check out the Sprint official coverage maps (not that they represent real LTE coverage, completely overblown.. but oh well)
