  1. I think only if you bought it direct from HTC. But it should have a warranty regardless...

HTC replaced my sister's m8 under uh oh protection and I purchased it from Sprint on easy pay.

  2. I dropped my phone on a sidewalk, with a case on it, and now the screen does weird things. I don't even know how to explain it, except that anywhere where there's white text there is a band that goes up and down the whole phone. FML

Does HTC still have their free replacement in place? I think it was called uh oh protection or something similar.

  3. Why is this posted in the Nexus 5 thread?

    AJ

Because I trying to show my gratitude to those that helped me with information about how to fix the power button on my Nexus 5 since without them I would have been stuck without a working phone for weeks while my refund is processed. Delete the post if it bothers you.

  4. Not sure about your issue (never had that happen on my 5) but that's almost half what I paid for my N5X 32G on launch (before the $50 play credit, so more like 2/3rds). So that's definitely something to consider.

If you're comfortable taking the back off of your N5 it should be pretty easy to see if something's jammed up in the power button. Just take off the back and unscrew the six screws on the upper plate cover and then you have full view of the power button assembly.

The back was a little harder to take off than I thought, there was a bit of foam tape at the bottom holding the back on. I found quite a bit of gunk in and around the power button assembly around where the button makes contact with the board and around the button through the side case itself. After scraping it all clean the power button feels crisp and smooth like the day I bought it, and the rattle is back that I had forgotten about. I think I may just use the 5X I have coming and put the 5 on back up duty, my current back up device is an OG EVO since I gave my EVO LTE to my dad a couple years ago and I did get it for a pretty good price. Thanks for your help.

  5. Service seems to have gone downhill a bit since all of the progress that was made last year. Two b41 carriers are live most of the place in Syracuse but it hasn't helped much if you aren't very close to a macro site. I've also been constantly dropping to 3g all over the place with constant data time outs while on LTE. I thought maybe my Nexus 5 was just showing it's age but I've been bringing my hotspot and tablet along and all three devices have trouble all over the city and surrounding area's.

  6. I was having an issue with my Nexus 5 the last week or so. It was like the power button was faulty and could cause the device to turn off as if you long pressed it randomly, or unlock/lock the screen and quick open the camera. I ended up ordering a 32GB Nexus 5x from groupon for $229 on Friday, and today I got the UPS notification that it's being shipped and the problem stopped on it's own. Has anyone else had issues with their power button? It's too late to cancel my order but I can still return the Nexus 5x after it arrives. I didn't want to replace this phone but the button issue was driving me nuts and $229 for a 32GB Nexus 5x seemed like a really good deal.

  7. AT&T has been a really great experience for me so far here in the Chicago area. Rarely ever drops off of LTE. I'm currently at my aunt's on band 4 AWS LTE getting over 20mbps, whereas T-mobile's LTE rarely ever could connect to LTE here, let alone get a decent HSPA signal. Much of the time nothing here on T-Mobile, meaning no signal at all. It makes me wonder if band 12 would even help.

Still, I'm hoping AT&T will make another attempt to purchase T-Mobile sometime after the new administration takes over. If T-Mobile can't secure a good chunk of 600mhz, I really don't see what future they really have left as a standalone carrier. My guess is if AT&T does get an acquisition deal in, they'll need to give off some spectrum to Verizon in exchange for the deal. However, I do believe this is going to happen, especially if Trump wins.

With how well T-Mobile has performed recently they would be hard pressed to sell that purchase as beneficial even with a new administration.

  8.

2-3Mbps is usually associated with a higher latency which messes things up. I can't properly watch a periscope at 2-3Mbps, even Netflix goes through hell at 2-3Mbps. Furthermore, it's not exactly acceptable. A minimum of 15Mbps everywhere w 50ms ping - perfect

I routinely watch video (netflix, YouTube etc) every day on lunch break with only an evdo connection. 2-3mbps IS acceptable for almost anything we do on our phones.

My believe is that the FCC ought to offer more spectrum at cheaper rates to the carriers so that the carriers could add spectrum without taking such a hard financial hit.

The spectrum is bid on. It is expensive because many parties find it valuable, and bid against each other. They could set the starting price at zero and it could still be auctioned off for billions, because that's what companies are willing to pay for it.

  10. I'm not blaming the FCC for any specific financial issue of T-Mobile or any carrier, specifically. However, I blame the FCC for making it difficult for carriers to get enough spectrum to serve their customers' needs. The amount carriers spend just on basic spectrum amounts already is astronomical, spectrum amounts that still don't give enough room for speed and capacity. I'm not a fan of these auctions and while I'm plenty critical of T-Mobile where I see fault as I mention plenty of here on S4GRU, I can't honestly blame all of T-Mobile's spectrum issues exclusively on them. The FCC does carry some blame.

How does the FCC make it difficult? They auction it off as it's made available. They only set the opening bid, T-Mobile needs to open up its wallet if it wants more spectrum at the next auction.

  11. I still don't like zero rating any type of data over another but the changes to bingeon do seem better than when it was initially launched. I would like to see Sprint offer something similar to bingeon, but without the zero rating. Sort of like an account data management tool. A family share data bucket would last a lot longer by keeping video streams in check.

  12. Well, I got the T-Mobile issue resolved. I heard from an upper level Executive Response person who is very nice. They looked into the issue and aplogized for what happened. Apparently I don't have to worry about the LG G5 order messing up like what happened with the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge order when the G5 is out for preorder. They are going to give me a slightly advanced preorder, so that the device doesn't end up scheduled to arrive several days after many others get theirs, or even over a week later as what was likely to happen with the SGS7E order, as the T-Mobile representative who placed it really botched the order. I can tell it was an embarrassment for the company to have an order made the first day of preorder get pushed so far behind in delivery. I'm glad T-Mobile has some genuine employees, which my mother and I are partly at fault for not trying to place this order with the people she already knew there, as this may not have happened otherwise. Still though, T-Mobile should not have any bad representatives, but then again, all carriers do have a few of them here and there.

You were upset because your pre order got pushed back a few days? T-Mobile bent over backwards and gave you an excellent deal with your plan. Shipping delays happen, with any company in any industry. I know you have some serious medical issues to deal with but damn. It sounded like they drowned a litter of kittens reading some of your posts.

  13. It would be nice if Sprint would try to do spectrum swaps to obtain as many 10x10 C-block PCS spectrum so that eventually they can do LTE CA between the C+G blocks.

C block is contiguous with G block. Why bother with CA when they could just use a larger size carrier?

  14. I don't understand why it wouldn't be in the system either. It was technically listed as refurb, which may have something to do with it, but I don't see how that would modify the imei and leave the old username and phone number intact in the software. It is pretty suspect, and I have considered getting my money back, but the seller has completed many sales and has a 5 star rating, so I'll see how it pans out after the 72 hour timeframe I was given from sprint.

When I had my ZTE livepro replaced under warranty, the refurb/replacement wasn't in their system. When they added it, they said it could take a week but it happened within a day.

  15. From the blog post it sounds like you only get refunded for the extra data you purchase that isn't used.

So the new plans seem like they're worse than Sprint's hotspot plans in almost every way.

The way I understand, its just like Google's Fi model but with much better prices for data. It could be good for some users, it just isn't for me.

  16. except that TMO will be bidding on 600MHz ... And why test with your "best" spectrum....

and as a customer it is nice to hear that 'your' carrier is planning and thinking ahead. So far ATT, VZW, and TMO have announced 5g tests soon. Has Sprint?

Until there is some form of standardization starting to happen, testing their own flavors of "5G" is pointless.

I should also add Sprint demonstrated more than 2.5Gbps two years ago. http://www.fiercewireless.com/tech/story/sprints-26-gbps-demo-shows-it-time-walk-walk/2014-02-06
