  1. *#0011# is only on Samsung devices.

Some devices, like the Nexus 5 use *#*#debug#*#* instead of ##debug#.

  2. It would appear not anymore, as I was given the same notification when I tried to enable WiFi Calling on my G5.

I was looking around at the FAQ and there are a lot of features that get disabled by opting in to WiFi calling. Hopefully they can make them work together at some point.

Are all features and options available with Wi-Fi Calling like I have on Sprint's cellular service?

The following features currently incompatible Wi-Fi Calling. When opting-in for the Wi-Fi Calling service, your phone will no longer be able to use the following features.

    • HD Voice
    • Premium Caller ID
    • Voice Account Controls from Sprint.com (Call Blocking by specific numbers)
    • Select Abbreviated Dialing Codes (Short codes starting with * or #)
    • RingBack Tones
    • StarStar Me
    • Google Voice with your existing Sprint number
    • Integrated Office (IO) Business Service
    • Sprint Mobile integration (SMI) Business Service

    • Sprint Direct Connect Now Application

  3. does anyone know what that white icon just to the left of the signal strength is? Looks like some sort of "N"

It means NFC is turned on.

Have used my new Bolt for a day. Will try to summarize my experience.

I was going to write a longish review but you've touched on almost everything I was going to say. Reception doesn't seem as good as my Nexus 5 and the phone randomly drops connection altogether more often. Battery life is better, but just barely it seems. So far I'm at 38℅ with 2.5 hours of screen time and battery saver mode has been on since 50℅. I used maps for 20 minutes but besides that it's been web browsing and Facebook/email type usage. I was really disappointed to find out I can't use Wi-Fi calling without removing Google voice integration. I miss a lot of calls at home because the phone switches from LTE to 3G often.

  5. what is the engineering dialer code? *#*#DEBUG#*#* isnt working for me.

##debug#. HTC doesn't use *#*# like some other devices.

  6. Got the Bolt today. First impression was how large and heavy the handset is, it's massive compared to my Nexus 5. In the box it includes some decent USB c headphones, a quick charge 2.0 charger with USB a to USB c cable, a sim removal tool and manuals. The phone has a ridiculous amount of preinstalled apps, only some of which can be removed.

The navigation buttons are quite small, and the home "button" and fingerprint scanner isn't a button at all. It's capacitive like the back and app switcher, unlike a Samsung galaxy s7. The power and volume buttons are on the right side, with the power being in a very comfortable position to press with my thumb. Engineering screens do work using the dialer codes, but do not launch through SCP shortcuts.

  7. Wish I qualified for the promo pricing! I don't know if I want to pay $600 for one, but $300 I would pull the trigger. Looking forward to a review!

Why wouldn't you qualify? It's on sale for black Friday. The $50 bill credit was a surprise to me. I was checking out and a box popped up asking if I wanted $50, I clicked yes and it showed up on the order page.

  8. Ordered the Bolt in gunmetal today. 50% off promo makes it $12.50/mo and I supposedly get a $10/mo loyalty service credit on top of that according to the checkout and email receipt. Also got a $50 bill credit, free activation and overnight shipping for ordering online.

  9. Thanks! I found it. Let me let it run down a bit....just took it off the charger. I'll post later today and let you know kinda where it's at.

How do the engineering screens look?

  10. This is going to sound insanely silly...where is this setting located now in Android?

It's normally under settings - battery and screen would normally show up. Clicking on screen should say time on.

  11. I'll work this backwards....first off, if your parents are using Nexii 5, the Bolt is going to be a superb choice for them. Comparatively speaking, the battery life on the Bolt is worlds better than the Nexus 5. Actually, as a phone it blows the Nexus 5 out of the water in every category. Seriously. Your parents would be ecstatic.

Feel in hand is a lot like the iPhone 6/6S Plus.

I'm comparing battery life anecdotally to the LG V20 and iPhone 7 Plus - I get significantly less time (2-3 hours less) per charge on the Bolt than the other two devices with very similar usage patterns. For a "normal" user, the Bolt would probably last all day. I run businesses from my phone and consume a lot of media, so I think my daily usage is probably significantly above average. Not to mention I am rarely on WiFi simply because the places where I work often don't have it.

So, to sum....compared to other modern smartphones that are similarly sized and equipped (like the LG V20 and the iPhone 7 Plus), the Bolt is just not quite up to bar from a battery life standpoint. But for the average user, I doubt it'd be noticeable and I suspect the phone would still last a day for the "average" user. Further, the Bolt's many other attributes far and away make up for slightly reduced battery life. I've been very  pleasantly surprised by this one, and I was already a raving HTC fan.

Hope this helps and it's not just a bunch of rambling. I've had 1.5 hrs of sleep over the past 50 hours.   :w00t:  :twitch:

What kind of screen on time do you get with the phone? I've been thinking about the Bolt since its part of the black friday deal and is 50% off next week and would also be looking to replace my aging Nexus 5.

  12. Sprint has announced their Black Friday deals. If you really want the HTC bolt, it's 50% off on the 24th & 25th.

Any idea if this will be offered as installment billing credits over 24 months, or just a flat price cut like they have done in the past?

  13. unfortunately I won't be back to the other location for a while, so I'm unable to check for another week or so. In the meantime I was trying to locate the sprint towers in the area. I'm 99% positive they're south of the location (probably at least a couple miles and with lots of trees between it). I can't seem to find a site that can tell me the locations of the cell towers though. I tried rootmetrics, opensignal, sensorly, cellreception, antennasearch etc. The best result I had was with antennasearch, but all the towers in the surrounding area had "tower not registered" messages, so they could be anything..

  14. With the iPhone 7 preorders going on I've been reading in some other forums about Sprint customers trying to figure out their lease/easy pay obligations and there is a lot of confusion. The subsidized model seems so much simpler. Did a 2yr upgrade pre-order from apple.com with no issues.

I'm not sure what is confusing about it. When I log into my account online I click lease/agreement details and it lists the buyout price, remaining lease payments, and total payoff if I want to own the device right now.

  15. Understood...it was just never a big deal with me

I do think that I may have read somewhere that Sprint was in the process of phasing out the Sprint-Google Voice Integration anyways. I am wondering if that was what the Sprint Rep was actually referring to when told the member that he would lose his Google Voice. When i have a little time I might research to see if I can find the answer.

Most of the time I use the integration to text from other devices like my work phone and computer. But I also receive calls a lot through my other devices as well. Honestly if it wasn't available, I would have ported out to another carrier a while ago. For whatever reason, calls still don't come through consistently in my area and a lot of times I only get the call because Hangouts rings.

  16. Now that Sprint is charging more for the iPhone lease, do you guys feel that the Sprint lease (old iPhone forever plan) is still the best deal? I'm having a tough time deciding. I've been feeling like the two extra dollars/month for an iPhone plus 128 GB phone through apple is worth it as it's unlocked and it comes with apple care. But I've been recently re-thinking that as it may be easier to upgrade though Sprint and I have never used Apple care within the first year of a phone...

    Thoughts?

I would pay an extra $2 per month for Apple Care on a leased device.

  17. A quick expansion of B26 800Mhz 5x5 LTE data and BC10 800Mhz 1x voice using microwave chained back-haul to locations where high bandwidth wired back-haul can be provided quickly and for less cost would be ideal in areas where there is no native LTE or partner LTE coverage.  Sprint should put a site every 20 miles or however far apart they can get the 800Mhz signal to travel with no LTE drop-offs between sites.  This expansion should occur along every road/highway that has 2 or more lanes in each direction where there is currently no LTE coverage for Sprint customers.  This would eventually pay for itself with additional customers and elimination of roaming fees in these areas.

Doesn't the NV 800mhz equipment also support PCS? I can't really see a reason to do 800mhz only sites if that's the case.

  18. The 8 and 9 were covered no matter what. The 10 only comes with Uh Oh if you buy it from HTC. At least that was the way the website appeared to explain it when my brother got his a couple months ago.

Ahh, that's too bad. It was pretty cool they offered that.

Well I'll find out soon! Gonna go online later and look into it.

How does that work? Do you have to send the broken one in? Or do they send the replacement first?

They placed a hold on my credit card and sent the new one then I sent the old one back in the same box
