  1. VZW's VolTE rollout is a mess right now around here. No simultaneous Voice and Data without it. No 1xrtt fallback. Dropped calls all around. You have to leave the Advanced Calling turned off.

Use a svlte device if you want data and voice without volte turned on.

  2. I just wish there was a way to have Hangouts only handle the Google Voice voicemail side of the house. Anytime I've tried to mess with it, Hangouts wants to take over my SMS and MMS side as well. I don't want to use Handouts for that. I just want Google Voice for my voicemail.

So, I am still sticking with the old Google Voice.

You should be able to do that. Just change the default SMS app to whatever it is you want to use.

  3. I wouldn't necessarily call it taking a load off the network. How many people stream local radio? My guess is not many. Most are streaming spotify, Pandora, etc.. It is, however, a fantastic tool for emergencies.

I used to use the FM tuner a lot when I had my EVO LTE. Its one of the things I miss about that phone, batter life was way better listening via FM tuner vs streaming.

  4.

I'll be honest, as an employee of an "Authorized Retailer" I always take offense when people make this argument. I have been here since Nextel (remember the $30 phone swaps?) and I have always strived to provide the best experience available in my market.

I'm not trying to down play your experiences, just wanted to speak up for all the reps out there that actually give a s*** about you.

I usually have a great experience from the authorized retailer I go to. I usually go back to the same rep if I can, I know she does what she can to make the in store experience good. The only time I use telesales or buy online is when its not available in store like when I bought the LivePro. I'm not in phone sales, but I do field services and I couldn't agree with you more. Repeat customers are one of the most important things.

  5. Having the two close together can work, but take it from a guy with a 50 year first class FCC radiotelephone license who used the license in his 50 year communications career-------it is not a good idea to have two devices that generate RF and receive RF sitting on top of each other.

That may be the case. However, just like your wireless router the airave must be centrally located in your home to provide the best possible coverage. By default they are going to be close together in almost every situation.

  6. I personally do not have a set up like this, but it is a bad practice to set an Airave beside the Wi-Fi router. They might interfere with each other. Separate them as much as possible. Use a long Cat 5 cable.

While I don't have the Asus router, my airave has set next to my wireless router for years without any issue.

  7. I wouldn't say its reliable. I've gone through at least 5 over the last 3 years. It works great when you have just a basic phone.

Router is great so far for me.

I've had mine replaced once in three years, I had the 2.5 and now have the 2.5+. The unit itself didn't fail, the 12v power supply did and the guy couldn't figure out how to just order the power supply so replaced the entire unit for me. Sprint's Wi-Fi calling needs some serious work to be considered reliable enough to provide coverage replacement. The Asus router is nice, but airave coverage is way more reliable for home voice service than Wi-Fi calling currently is.

  8. Which do you guys think is more reliable, the Airrave or the WiFi router. My phone has trouble keeping the WiFi Calling feature active all the time. Sometimes it says....enabling WiFi calling for an awful long time, but that is on my home router. Seems like the Airrave is a bit more reliable.

The airave is hands down way more reliable. However, if you have a triband handset and get any LTE at home you need to put the phone in 3G only mode.

  9. Not much of a change than before, except $20 a phone instead of $15 like it is now (and 12gb for 80/mo insgtead of 10gb)... also interesting to see the $5 per smartwatch... does that pretty much confirm that the next apple watch will be network connected instead of to the phone?

No, Verizon is pushing connected smart watches such as the LG gizmo pal. Apples watch already has battery problems, I can't imagine what it would be like having to also power an additional radio.

  10. I was just near downtown at the war memorial and was connected to band 41. I bet with the next announcement Syracuse is officially launched as a spark market. Band 26 can't come soon enough, I don't know why its not being deployed. Public safety is clear and there is an exclusionary zone around the city for the ibez.

  11. My battery is just garbage most of the time. It's really the biggest, and maybe the only downside to owning an iPhone. I've just learned to deal with charging my phone twice a day.

That was my experience for the few days I was trying an iPhone. The battery life was a little worse than my year and a half old Nexus 5, I couldn't make it through the day without recharging it once. Screen on time might have been a little better, it was hard to tell since battery stats didn't show screen time but stand by was significantly worse. I also had poor LTE performance, it felt like I was back on my old EVO LTE. I wonder if that carrier bundle that broke LTE is contributing towards the poor battery performance by dropping LTE more often. I wouldn't mind an iPhone that was almost twice as thick, with a battery that is twice as large.

  12. That's probably what happened.

Now, if it were 3 cents per mb, wouldn't all of you roamers be willing to pay that? That would be 30 dollars for an additional 1gb of roaming data. Sprint and USCC could make some additional revenue and everybody wins.

Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk

I would pay that, though I have a feeling Sprint would lose money at that rate. What I wouldn't mind seeing would be something similar to the international data speed packs, they could offer domestic roaming packs at a preset cost that you could add on before heading out on vacation.

  13. No no I think you are confused, I was connected to Telus's 3G EVDO network which is not part of the IVR program.  SignalCheck Pro confirmed it was EVDO and not HSPA.  That is probably why I was dinged the charge.  Basically the best way to avoid any chance of getting charged is to set your phone to GSM/UTMS phone mode and not on global so you don't bounce between potential networks that use CDMA and UTMS.

Not all phones have that specific setting. That doesn't show up on my Nexus 5 if a Sprint SIM is in the phone, just LTE, 3G, 1x, and Global. IVR is confusing, the PRL should probably be set up to disallow any international CDMA roaming to prevent that from happening to other customers.

  14. my run in with CDMA networks hasn't been great. W-CDMA is a whole different story and performs much better with texts for me

Unless you lose LTE, you aren't sending SMS over CDMA if you have a triband phone on Sprint. How would RCS improve delayed text messages? If SMS is being delayed what makes you think RCS messages wouldn't also be delayed?

  15. Shit. Well, looks like my wife is going to have to buy a 4.7" screen now that's too big for her hands to operate/reach the screen comfortably.

Or switch to Android and hate it for a long time.

Or switch to Android and see how much better it is and what she has been missing  :D. The 4.7" screen size could be perfect if they would just reduce the bezels and overall physical size of the phone.

  16. If RCS can be integrated into iMessage or Hangouts the way SMS and MMS are I might see it taking hold. I just don't see the incentive to add support unless the other three carriers add RCS on the network side and demand the functionality be native in those apps.
