  1. Something I think most people on old subsidy plans seem to forget is they are not owed an upgrade in the future. You agree to a two year service commitment for your device to be subsidized. Service plans should have been separated from equipment long ago. If you're still in contract, your device is still being repaid for via service subsidy. Anybody trying to switch to the new plan without the subsidy penalty is no different than some one on easy pay asking for a bunch of their device payments to be waived because they don't want to pay it.

Otherwise, it makes much more sense to go with a faster cable option, even with a rate difference. Also, I highly recommend the Netgear 7000 series Docsis 3.0 gateway. It works so much better than the Pace garbage on AT&T.

Did Comcast provide that free or via lease or did you purchase it yourself?

  3. I dont really know. My plan add-ons show "premium caller id" with a price of $0.00. With how slick it is, i would actually pay the $2.99. Still wonder how it works. maybe it is there way of keeping me from jumping to another carrier. others get hot spot of 10 gigs...i get premium caller id lol

It looks pretty slick. I was interested when I got the phone but it's on of those things like lookout security and visual voicemail that have those monthly charges I don't like. I would rather pay a flat fee than extra MRC.

  4. anyone else have the premium caller id working for free on the bolt? started within the last few days for me. it is a pretty decent service and works even when not connected to LTE.

How did you get it to work for free? When I open that app it says unsubscribed with a sub option for $2.99/mo.

  5. I got the free USB C to headphone jack adapter in the mail last week. I didn't get around to using it until today but I was surprised how much better the included USB C earbuds sound than my old headphones using the adapter. I signed up for the free adapter shortly after I received the phone.

  6. It has been talking about. Just need devices that supports it. When the HTC A9 came out it was said that it supports it. It doesn't sound like they will inable it on that phone. Which makes no since.

It's not uncommon for chipset features to go unsupported in devices. Just because the modem or processor supports something doesn't mean the handset has the rest of the necessary hardware in place to implement the feature.

  7. Part of me believes that Verizon has been plotting this Unlimited all along and waited until Sprint eliminated contracts to launch it with maximum impact at their most vulnerable moment. But then I can't figure out why they didn't launch it at Super Bowl.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yeah, that would have been an even bigger announcement at SuperBowl. I agree Verizon ought to have announced it then.

It's probably a direct response to being roasted over their $55 5GB plan.

  8. In the last 3 months, one of our bigger carriers surprised the market with a never-seen-before mobile data offering. Well, it was more than data: it was 100 "off-net" minutes, 10,000 "on-net" minutes, 100 SMS, 2GB data, 30GB promo once-off data and 50GB bonus data.

That's 52GB of data every month for 24 months.

    8dd814ddb94754db188b913c1fca5117.jpg

Well, the market exploded. Most people couldn't care less about the minutes and just wanted the data. With a cheap handset I personally got this for the equivalent of $17 a month! I also sold the handset for $75 which further sweetened the whole deal.

Have you guys ever had such deals in the U.S?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's a pretty cool deal. 100 sms is a little low but with that much data any OTT solution would work perfectly fine.

  9. Its a bad deal for essentially that it doesn't last, rauses the rates substantially once expired, puts those who chose it in a difficult situation at that time if the price hike isn't worth it to them, let alone once again, Sprint isn't offering another promo to existing customers.

The other carriers have promos that not only are for new and existing customers, they get to keep the same rate so long as they don't switch out of the promo. If Sprint had done this, then it would have been a great deal, imo, even if Sprint kept it at non-premium, although I think it would have been a nice added perk to it anyways.

I see this deal essentially the same as other "free" promotions like getting free HBO for a year when signing up for cable. Just because it doesn't last doesn't mean it's not good. That's money subscribers save, and if they are smart about their device they aren't locked into any service agreement either. It's a way to get people to try the service, if they are happy with it after a year and see the value they will keep paying for it. If they don't they can move on or cancel.

Sounds like a bad deal to me. I'll give T-Mobile credit, in at least they let customers keep their promo rate, whereas Sprint says "Okay, now we need to double your rate for those five lines. Trying to buy T-Mobile is going to be quite expensive for us, even if we don't end up getting them, we need the money for the breakup fee. Oh and btw, we are not doing many upgrades to our network this year and so if you end up not satisfied with us, you're stuck with us and your phones, unless you find another carrier to bail you out.".

How is that a bad deal? It's a promotional rate, and an excellent one at that. There's no way they could keep five lines for $90/month with unlimited plans permanently. If the service isn't good in your area, don't buy it. In a strong Sprint market this is as good as it gets for getting families to switch over. The network is much better than it used to be, getting people to come back or try it is hard and awesome deals are the best thing they can do to win back customers that might not have ever tried Sprint.

  11. FYI-Someone on Reddit noticed and it seems to work. If you set FireFox to Private mode the 2 year contracts show up on Sprint's website.

Now do I wait and see if it still works when the new phones come out in a month or two? :)

They may show up, but does the billing system allow an order to go through with 2 year option?

  12. I'll add a quick thought here. T-Mobile charging $70 for an individual line with vidro streaming limited to 1.5mbps, unless the customer pays $15 additional per month for the privilege of having to login everyday they want higher quality decent video streaming, is just ridiculous.

The model ought to be similar to what is offered by Cricket and other internet providers. Flat speed for all forms of use, with people paying higher rates for faster speeds, not just for audio/video. Hopefully the new, less FCC-intrusive environment will allow businesses to do this without regulatory pressure.

Why do you have such a hard on for crickets business model? I'm happy people have to pay more if they want to hammer the network with UHD video streaming. The plan works great for the majority of people, if you absolutely feel the need to have no restrictions then you should be paying more than someone else that doesn't need or want it. "Unlimited" plans have been getting more and more expensive because of usage like this. Those plans are an option to offer "unlimited" data to most customers without having to charge them extra for other people's usage.

  13. If you root, you can get all that info from Network Signal Guru and even turn off Band 25 and Band 26 so your phone can ride B41 indoors (albeit weak, but still faster than the sub 1 Mbps B25/26 offer). Unfortunately the app is a battery hog and heats up the phone quick, even when it sits in the background.

I like to turn off bands and exit the app to enjoy slightly faster speeds. B41 at -120 RSRP is still faster than the -95 RSRP B25 gives me. I also turn off CDMA PCS and SMR so that when I'm on fringe areas, my phone can roam perfectly instead of holding on to a weak Sprint 1x.

The new update wants $50 a month to use advanced features.

  14. It would be nice if Sprint also didn't charge a little premium on their phones. Sprint vs TMobile, Sprint S7 costs $25 more. The V20 is $23 more. The G5 is $65 more.

Different hardware variants of phones are bound to have different costs associated with them.

Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

  15. It wouldn't be so bad if Sprint would occasionally offer 50% off on decent phones like Verizon has done. The Pixel 50% holiday offer was quite attractive.

I see the V20 has a 50% off offer but appears it is only for new lines.

The Bolt was 50% off, the G5 and V20 both had promos and the GS7 had BOGO for adding a line. I would like to see more sales, but they have already been doing them for a while. I also got my sister's old HTC M8 for 50% off six months after the phone came out, and I got credits when I bought my LivePro on easy pay the week it came out.

  16. Ya I agree... well at least send out a carrier settings update allowing for simultaneous voice and data then like what The other carriers have

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There is no carrier settings update that can be sent out to allow simultaneous voice and data. Existing devices that are hardware capable would need to be recertified and new firmware pushed once VoLTE went live. You could always use an older device like the HTC Evo LTE if you absolutely need voice and LTE/evdo data at the same time, or use an over the top solution like Google Voice, Hangouts, Facebook etc.

There are surprisingly a lot of audiophiles/audio enthusiasts interested deeply in portable audio. There are two particularly huge web forums online that caused me to rethink this, Head-Fi and Super Best Audio Friends, as I use to think 320k audio was just fine. Then reading these audio sites, particularly upon advisement and education by a friend of mine o the differences in audio, I tried flac on the LG V10, and from then on was totally convinced by FLAC's superiority.

I get that are enthusiasts and audiophiles that want high quality music, but what's stopping them from loading their high quality music on an SD card or internal storage? Unlimited freedom is about as easy as it gets to understand compared to any other plan in Sprint's history. I would be willing to bet 95% or more users on unlimited freedom don't even realize network optimization is being done when they are streaming. Most people don't even care about speed either, if it loads when they open an app or plays when they click play they are happy. It's when buffering happens, or data times out that customers get upset and post slow speed tests and ultimately port out.

Very good ideas, and I definitely agree!

Especially good point about the simplicity of these plans, which the current plan structure is way too complicated, furthering difficulty at the store level. In regards to Sprint plans, I believe the current Sprint Unlimited Freedom plans are an absolute disaster. Having several different speed caps on different uses is just bad, very bad for Sprint to do. It not only complicates things, but it makes the network look weak, particularly having speed caps for audio streaming. Sprint really does not need to do that when it has so much spectrum and network capacity.

Besides, no other carriers are doing it. I for one, will not blame Sprint store employees for having difficulty explaining to customers how the audio streaming speed caps operate and can limit certain types of audio file streaming, because god knows having a few minutes of Tidal Flac streaming could kill Sprint's network. That certainly shouldn't be a message Sprint ought to convey, but sadly it does when people figure it out. Besides, Sprint's network can in fact, handle far more Tidal streaming than T-Mobile in areas such as Chicago.

Unlimited freedom seems pretty simple to me. How many customers even experience any kind of throttling while streaming audio on that plan? I don't know anyone that even uses Tidal, and I never had to set up streaming for any of my customers using that service. Everyone primarily used Spotify, pandora, Google play music, or apple music. The vast majority of customers care about having their stuff available to stream and want it to work when they hit play. I can't recall a single person that required Hi-Fi music streaming on their device.

  19. Try again. Tell them the airave isn't reaching your entire house.

I called tonight and they supposedly put in the order for me after argueing for a bit about my service. It's been a while, but I recall they did that before when it first came out and it got rejected because I already had an Airave. I'll have to wait and see what happens, thank you for the info.

Sprint offer customers a free Dual band Asus router. It is a free 1 year "lease" and after the year it's yours to keep. The router works extremely well IMO.

    Try calling Sprint up.

    https://www.sprint.com/landings/airave/?ECID=vanity:inhomecoverage

I couldn't get that router because I have an Airave, they wouldn't even let me pay for it when it came out. I'll try calling about it again, maybe their policies have changed.

  21. Ubiquiti AC Pro/ Lite + Edgerouteri.

If you want an AIO then a Tp link c9 or an Asus AC1900 will work on a dime.

Make sure you get the ethernet port of the ONT activated and a cst5/cat 6 cable ran to it.

Sent from my Pixel using Tapatalk

Thanks. My ONT is already set up that way. When I had service originally installed the technician did that for me so I could use my own router if I wanted even though I ended up sticking with theirs. I'll be disconnecting my FiOS service for cable, since Charter provides free services for its employees.

  22. I was hoping some of you could recommend a decent router in the $100-$150 range. I've been a Verizon FiOS customer for years so haven't really had to look at anything else since they provided me one. I was hired by Charter last month and they provide free cable TV/internet/phone services to employees so I'll need to get a router of my own after I disconnect FiOS. I was looking at Google's WiFi router but it seems to be sold out everywhere, and had also heard about the possibility of a Sprint Airave 3 with WiFi support but haven't seen much else about it. My house is roughly 1200 sq/ft (roughly 50' x 25') with one floor and a full basement.

  23. Can I buy a Pixel XL from Verizon, then take it over to Sprint and activate it? Seeing mixed answers via Google search.

Sent from my m8whl using Tapatalk

Yes, you can. Keep in mind the bootloader on Verizon pixels is locked if that matters to you.
