  1. I've been having to reboot this router about once a week because WiFi craps out and all my devices stop authenticating. It's still broadcasting, but nothing connects. Has anyone else been running into this or know a fix? Between that and the stock firmware hard limiting my internet speed to ~90Mbps I may just send this thing back. I had high hopes for this router and WiFi calling at home but neither seem to work very well for me.

  2. With HPUE being an uplink enhancement, would any of our tools or apps even be able to measure the difference it makes? I thought all those tools we use like SCP, lte discovery, network signal guru etc all show downlink measurements.

  3. I just got the update notification myself, it says system enhancements and bug updates.

  4. I wonder if the new carrier update improves HD voice between Wi-Fi calling and macro network Sprint calls. I think that's currently the only situation in which HD voice doesn't work now, right? (Assuming Sprint to Sprint calls)

Does HD voice work at all with WiFi calling enabled on iPhones? I went to activate it on my Bolt and my sisters iPhone 7 and I recall seeing something that enabling WiFi calling would deactivate HD voice completely even when not using WiFi calling, among other things.

  5. And as of Friday, the 17 month lease option is gone on Sprint.com. Talk about scaling back options.

I wonder how many utilized it. The two year upgrade cycle has been shoved down our throats for so long I wonder if most were picking 24 months.

  6. Well they say this is the final bill and that it's for an entire month even though I was only a customer for three days. That's what she wrote. I don't care anymore. I'll just pay the damn thing. It was excruciating talking to this person.

You'll receive a final pro rated bill for however many days of service you used the last month you were active. Sprint CS is hit or miss, when I get their Oklahoma call center it's excellent otherwise it's been poor for me.

  7. With the Bolt its around 600 dollars or so on Sprint but, 399 on Boost.

I bought mine for $300 on easypay when they did 50% off around Thanksgiving time. They might have it on sale again.

I'm considering replacing my Note 5 with the Bolt. I read the posted opinions, but now that it's a few months since release, any changed opinions? How is the battery life holding up?

Battery life is still the same for the most part. Randomly Facebook and messenger will destroy the battery but that's happened with my last few phones. I've dropped mine several times and it's holding up well with only minor scuffs. If I handed you the phone and didn't point them out you wouldn't notice. I've had buyers regret with a few of my devices, but the Bolt isn't one of them.

So I noticed today that I have the Google Assistant on my N6P. Out of habit I hold home button due to the original Google Now on the N7 2012. After holding a pop-up came up asking to activate the assistant. I am completely stock but am enrolled in the beta program. My build number is NPG05F, Android 7.1.2. My Google App version is 6.13.25.21.arm64. My Google Now Launcher version is 1.4.large.

Several devices running nougat have started getting the assistant via Google play services update. My HTC Bolt has it now.

We're talking about the LG V20, not an LG G4. It was released just months ago, during a time when Sprint knew HPUE was right around the corner. I'm sure Sprint and LG have conversations about what Sprint needs in their phones.

In addition, LG advertised as the modem as "future proof."

Tech gets outdated with new releases all the time. New LTE bands, processor features, camera quirks etc. Nothing is ever future proof. Whatever was necessary to make HPUE work just probably wasn't available in time for the V20. It doesn't make the V20 instantly worthless, it just doesn't have the latest and greatest.

  11. I can regularly pull 120ish on my charter cable through the asus with no issues.

I am using the un-sprintified mod and merlin asus firmware.

I would suggest turning off all extra services and wifi, unplug anything that might be in the usb ports, and plug only 1 computer into the asus:

Make sure any QOS or speed limits are removed or disabled in the asus web config. I don't remember which section they are in.

arris <> asus <> 1pc/laptop that is known to get more than 90mbs speed tests

if that gets you above 90, then you can start enabling wifi and other services to see what affects the speed.

otherwise not sure what to advise, I don't know if the sprint QOS will limit your total speed or not.

QoS settings aren't accessible with the stock Sprint firmware. I was reading around and some others have had the same speed limit problem using Sprint's firmware, so looks like I'll need to look into modding it. It seems silly they would hard limit network traffic like that.

Edit- somehow I managed to brick this thing. I was trying to tinker with any settings combination to get it to allow faster speed without changing the firmware and the unit said it had to reboot. After it finished the login page has a generic message saying the IP and port has changed and to connect to the new network, and the WAN and LAN 1 and LAN 2 lights stay on solid. My computer just says network cable is unplugged now. I tried the reset button, and putting it into recovery mode while holding reset down and powering the unit on and all I get is those three solid lights.

  12. do you get more than 90 without the asus ?

Yes, regularly 350 wired with just the Arris. It only has 802.11n so around 60 on wireless.

Test another ethernet cable between the router and the modem. Maybe a faulty cable.

I tried several different network cables all with the same result.

  13. I'm having trouble getting this router set up properly, I was hoping one of you might be able to help me with the proper configuration settings. I have TWC (Spectrum) Ultimate 300 internet, and no matter how I seem to configure this thing I can't get better than 90mbps dl (wired or wirelessly) almost as if its stuck in 10/100 network mode. I'm using my ISP supplied Arris TG1672 gateway. The Asus router was plugged into the Arris gateway from the blue WAN port into LAN port 1 on the Arris, and my desktop plugged into LAN port 1 on the Asus router. I tried changing the NAT setting on the Arris to Bridged from RoutedWithNAT and disabling DHCP on the Arris and also tried several other network cables. Windows reports the adapter link speed is 1gbps in network settings. I feel like I'm missing something simple, any help would be greatly appreciated.

  14. My experience with manually paying while auto pay is set up on Verizon has been double payments. When I called Verizon customer care, they told me if the account balance doesn't show $0 a week before autopay is scheduled then the autopay will still go through even if you manually pay a few days before due date.

  15. Well, that is your opinion. In fairness, there is a chance for everything, even a far off idea as Verizon and AT&T merging, which someone mentioned on S4GRU earlier as an example of what the FCC is capable of allowing in this environment. Even someone I spoke with at a nearby Verizon corporate store told me the idea sounded very interesting and somethings going to happen with the way things are going.

Even being pro business there is no way the Trump administration would allow Verizon and AT&T to merge. There would be huge job losses between the two companies merging, not to mention the combined debt of the two companies would be astronomical.

  16. I forgot to mention the phone. My mother has a very good working Microsoft Lumia 950xl that I'll be using until the unlocked Sony XZ Premium becomes available, which at that time, I'll give the Lumia back to her.

I understand changing providers because of price and value, but why would you consider things such as spectrum they have yet to deploy or theoretical mergers? That's like someone switching to Sprint because they may one day finally utilize all their spectrum holdings and finish deploying the macro/small cells necessary to make it useful. It just seems like you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

Sprint is in business to make money.

You're right, they are in business to make money. You're asking them to take a loss on revenue because you and others feel entitled to the new benefits of new plans without following through on your commitment when you signed a two year service contract to receive a discounted phone.

I don't understand what the problem is, when you're done with your two year commitment you are free to move to whatever new non subsidy plan you want without penalty. Or move onto another provider without an early termination fee.

You agreed to pay for your device by signing a two year service commitment. If you want to change service to something that no longer includes that device subsidy then you pay that subsidy fee, or an early termination fee if you change providers. It would be no different than me bitching I don't feel like paying the last six months on my lease because I want to change to something new.

OMG it just flies right over your head. RETENTION. They won't make any money on the phone or the plan if they don't RETAIN THE CUSTOMER. The contract plans are NOT SWEETHEART DEALS. Based on comparison they are hands down some of the most expensive. And you missed the math yet again. Based on 12.50 per month for 3 phones for BE point and a difference 45 dollars per month from current plans to mine, they already made GREATER THAN RETAIL price. Now factor that across 12 years. I am sure that it would be in the best interest to retain me as a customer. Hence the reason why they are calling me to try and retain me.

HOWEVER, my original point was the inconsistentancy of how they go about it and how it would be better be proactive rather than reactive on RETENTION. As the cost of new customers is higher than RETENTION, of current ones.

I'm not missing anything, nobody is owed anything. You have paid them for twelve years, and in return they have provided twelve years of service. Neither you, me, or anyone else are entitled just because we have been customers for any period of time and they come out with new plans. You agreed to the terms when you signed up for two years, knowing you would be locked in for two years. You were fine receiving a discounted phone up front, why are you not fine with holding up your end of the bargain when Sprint held up theirs? I don't understand why you or anybody else would be complaining, if you can find a better deal with another provider then go elsewhere.

The legacy ED plans were sweetheart deals up until subsidized upgrades were killed off, they are no longer the cheapest without that discounted phone. When you're eligible then move onto a newer plan, or pay the fee and move now if hotspot is really that important to you, or port out to another provider. You and everyone else have options, but you want Sprint to make up another option that you want that isn't available.

  19. So again I will say this again. It is about retention. The phones are paid for and their costs don't go down if they lose me as a customer. It's not like they shut down a tower if I leave.

Furthermore the people on contracts are generally speaking the bread and butter. Like me most are upper middle income, excellent credit and buy top line phones. Retention, Retention, Retention.

Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

Yes, the phones are paid for and they expect to receive a certain amount of money from them back in plan subsidy. Just because they bought them wholesale and sold them to you on contract does not mean you should expect them to accept less money for them because you want to change plans to something that no longer includes the subsidy.

The people still on contracts are the ones left over trying to hold onto their sweetheart deals from the past. Easy pay and leases lock customers down just as much as the subsidy model if not more in terms of retention.

  20.

You are missing the fact that you pay a large part of the cost down on a subsidised phone vs a financed phone.

I'm not missing anything. You pay a portion of the phones cost down and then the rest of it in subsidy over two years. That's why some cheaper phones were "free" and an iPhone was $200. That's why there's an early termination fee, and why there is a subsidy fee if you change to a newer plan that doesn't already include it. There's little to no difference in the end besides the actual price of phones is no longer hidden by subsidy.

Sent from my 2PYB2 using Tapatalk

  21. Your comparison is a bit off. The difference is how things are being financed. With subsidised plans the provider would buy the phones direct at a massive discount compared to the full price. When cell service first came about the phones would be about 1500 in today's dollars and the customer would pay zero up front. Now a top of the line phone is 650-700 retail and wholesales for about half of that, with a customer paying 250 up front, that leaves about 50-100 in real cost to the provider. Now the cost of the phone is factored into the plan month by month, at a pretty hefty premium.

Easy pay is a whole different ball of wax. The provider is selling you a phone at retail price and making money doing so. They then have the option to monetize that payment by selling it up as an account collectible. Similar to how banks sell mortgages as derivatives.

At any rate it isn't about entitlement it is about retention. Walmart doesn't have to sell you big screen TVs at a loss either, but they do to get you to buy the much higher mark up accessories. That is the way business works, sometimes you take a loss on one thing to make a profit on another.

Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

It's really not. A portion of the subsidized plan cost is to pay for that discounted phone you receive at the beginning of the two year agreement. Do you think it's coincidence that the subsidized plan was 80 and the unsubsidized plan ended up at 60? When you agree to a two year contract and receive a discounted phone, it's not any different than agreeing to pay for the device over two years on easy pay except the phone payment is now separate from the service plan, as it should be.

Wholesale on these phones is not nearly as low as you seem to think it is. Just because the bill of materials for an iPhone or Samsung galaxy is a couple hundred dollars does not mean that's what carriers and retailers are purchasing them for.

Many people are still locked in for two years with phone payment plans.

Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

As they should be, since they have not finished their obligation to pay for the device via the plan subsidy (or easy pay/lease for that matter) that they agreed to when they signed a two year contract to receive a discounted phone.
