Shentel / Sprint LTE - (was ntelos - West & N&W Virginia)
blackwaterstout replied to marioc21's topic in Markets
This would be bad-ass if Sprint overbuilds. nTelos sucks. Do you know if Morgantown/Fairmont/Clarksburg was on the list? -

When this first came up a month or so ago I was told by an nTelos rep that nTelos customers would NOT be able to roam on Sprints LTE network. Which for potential nTelos customers is not a selling point. So the premise of nTelos reps lying to move Sprint customers over to nTelos is not 100% valid. If they were bold enough to lie about Sprint customers not being able to use their LTE towers you would think they probably also would lie and say they could use Sprints towers. I'm not certain but its just a thought. -

This is certainly a frustrating position for those of us that are Sprint customers living in nTelos territory. I've been with Sprint for over 6 years now on Sero 500. Prior to LTE I felt like Sprint was definitely by best option. I paid $68/month for 2 lines the first 2 years of my contract and now I spend $111/month since moving to Sero premium. I'd rather stay with Sprint in order to keep my unlimited data. Although the other carriers (ATT, USCC, VZN) all have LTE here, a 2 phone plan would cost significantly more and wouldn't have unlimited data. If Sprint over builds it may take a vary long time before WV residents would be able to take advantage of it. If they don't over build then we are at the mercy of crappy little nTelos and we may have to pay additional fees to access their LTE or even worse not have access to it at all. -

If it was strictly the nTelos reps saying that their LTE will be off limits to Sprint customers I would be more likely to believe they are lying in order to drum up customers of their own. Its kind of disturbing to hear Sprint reps repeating the same thing. This makes me wonder if this rumor may have legs. -

What are the ultimate financials of the Sprint/ntelos relationship. I keep hearing everyone talk about how much Sprint has to pay ntelos. But nTelos has 500k subscribers that use sprints nationwide network so is this as lopsided as we think? ~60 million sprint customers, how many of which live or travel through a small state like WV? versus ~500k nTelos subscribers that travel across the entire country (minus VA and NC) using sprints network. What do you suppose the total data usage is by each customer set on the others network? My understanding is that WV is the primary state where Sprint has minimal footprint and relies on ntelos. Some of the ntelos territory in other states like VA actually overlaps with sprint doesn't it? -

When I talked to the store rep in Morgantown he was adamant that sprint customers would not be able to use nTelos LTE network, and vice versa ntelos customers would not be able to use sprints LTE network. He said that Sprint and ntelos agreement was only for 1x and 3g. I know you can't put any stock into what store reps tell you but that is what he was pushing. The screen cap of the iPhone with ntelos LTE..........please tell me the guy ran some speed tests! If so what were the speeds like? 3G on ntelos towers in Morgantown have been good for a long time. Normally around 2mb down and 0.8mb up. -

That's why I hate nTelos. They keep pushing their lower cost plans but in the end they are not going to be any cheaper than the big 4. I really hope Sprint over builds in WV and they sever ties with ntelos. -
Was at Cabelas near Wheeling WV today when signal check alerted me of 800mhz. It was only on for a few minutes and there was no LTE but what I found interesting is that the tower is physically located in WV. Isn't that supposed to be nTelos territory? The tower is located 2-3 miles from Cabelas and when I drove right next to it on my way back toward Washington the 800mhz was not operating.

Sprint LTE Coverage Maps via Sensorly
blackwaterstout replied to S4GRU's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
I wish there was an option to differentiate what I've mapped versus what other people have mapped. Since I travel a lot I'm curious as to how much of the state was actually mapped by me. I suspect a lot. Lol -

Today I was in the Morgantown mall and stopped in the nTelos store for my monthly dose of laughs. "when are you guys going to get LTE in Morgantown?". Was my standard question. This time the rep said "i think early next year but they are installing it in Beckley and some Virginia cities right now". He went on to ask me how many lines I had and I told him I was with Sprint and that I was aware they used nTelos towers throughout much of WV. He said I was crazy for having Sprint in WV as it was more expensive than nTelos for the exact same coverage. I told him I was on Sero and his comment was that id never be allowed to upgrade again and still keep that plan. Then he went on the say that Sprint phones will not be allowed to use nTelos' 4G LTE network because the companies agreement was for 3g only. He said that nTelos customers won't be allowed to use Sprints LTE network either. Any truth to this or is this typical worker bee jargon? If Sprint is not over building in WV and there is no 4g agreement then I'd be screwed. -

Has LTE roaming started?

I'm in the same boat only I'm in Morgantown. nTelos does not provide much information but I have heard that nTelos first LTE test markets will be Beckley/Bluefield along with Waynesboro VA. So maybe this isn't a Sprint overbuild and an actual nTelos upgrade. Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using Tapatalk 2 -
So that is just the 1x on 800mhz? I assume the LTE is still on 1900? If the 800 is operable that means its been NV'd right? Does that also mean the 800 LTE is installed but hasn't been activated yet? Sorry for the newb questions Sent from my EVO 4G LTE using Tapatalk 2
