  2. Got the Android 12 based upgrade today with May 2022 security.  They now have favorites in contacts. Have not yet figured out how to get rid of the google/T-Mobile screen. Wall paper changes.

What band selector options does it have for NR, if I might ask?  Been considering picking one up and then disabling all future updates on it the way I did with my new S21FE.

    - Trip

With the factory unlocked, a lot more bands show:

    AT&T MVNOs: n2, n5, n66, n77

    T-Mobile MVNO: n2, n5, n25, n41, n71, n77, n78

    Verizon MVNO: n2, n5, n66, n78

Note that Verizon currently limits access to n77 and n78 and mmWave depending on MVNO and account type.

Also note that T-Mobile locked just shows n41 and n71.

  4. Finally got the One UI 4.1 update (Android 12) for the A32 5G factory unlocked.  It has April 1 2022 security patches.

Not a fan of getting another update given the destruction of the Samsung band selector app abilities. 🙄

Man I wish I could get on their beta right now.  Looks like I'll have to wait until Dec or so.

The report is not surprising really.  Largely only have employees roaming around running tests and what not.  I am sure lots of testing is needed to iron out bugs, fix things.  Though a lot of it might be denser network.  Only so much you can do and money is spread out very thin when you have such a large target to hit.

I see it as more of an economic calculation.  Basically go after the areas where they have the best odds of retaining or attracting customers versus their MVNO arrangements. The quicker they can switch back and forth between 5g and MVNOs the finer grained this decision zone can be.

Field results will beat theory.  In Sprint days this was up to 15 minutes in theory. In practice AT&T could be quite sticky.  I remember driving by 3 Sprint sites while still stuck on AT&T roaming. Dish will need to do better to thrive. Both their MVNO arrangements reportedly now cost them about $1.50 per GB. With volume that may fall to $1.

  6. The see Dish as the Beta network for a while. Basically once they have secured their licenses and have inexpensive phones that utilize all their bands I hope to see them reduce the edge space of their network or improve the transfer performance so customers have more of an invisible handoff experience. This will likely be late 2023.

The key wording here is "phased approach".  Not certain the airlines really need this exemption given the thousands of flights canceled during holiday weekends are primarily from staffing shortages. Doubtful that grounding planes with outdated GPS systems would change this.

Hopefully T-Mobile keeps the *#2263# menu enabled. Honestly I use that more than the band selector app since the app used to be fairly glitchy.

Only way to go with most other carriers for band selection.

They specifically say it is live in my area.  My phone sees 8 plmns, but not theirs.  My guess is protection sites.

Might be a samsung issue like the TA issue. My S22 Ultra is showing SA n41 as n7 also. Saw it for the first time today.

Great to know. More likely to get fixed when issues also appears in the latest flagship.

In a bit of a situation... since the Netgear LTE 6100d router/gateway I have is being retired/phased out with the June 30th shut off date, I need a LTE/5G router that I could purchase that would be BYOD capable to replace it with...

Any suggestions or help is MUCH appreciated!! 😀

Any thoughts for MarshieZ in 2022? @ingenium may also have ideas.

Of course there are also the T-Mobile and Verizon internet offerings, but those are likely higher cost and lower priority.  Starlink is a lower tier of service based on my testing. Unless one lives on a farm or in the Great Plains, trees (quite common in the north woods of Wisconsin) can be a major impediment to continous service (chainsaws should be sold as option equipment, although Musk would likely prefer you buy his flamethrower https ://youtu.be/qLcma0YyzhY )

Came across this on Reddit, its a T-Mobile site plan including n77 gear. Don't think I've seen this yet. Anyone else seen n77 gear in other parts of the country for T-Mobile?

They are only licensed in major metro iirc.  I would look for it in one with unmet demand which would likely have limited n41 spectrum. San Francisco might fit the bill.

Thanks for that.  That answers a lot.  Very cool about the international WiFi calling as well.  Is that typical across carriers and MVNOs?

My MVNOs now do support this,  but you diffinately want to test this in advance. Model coverage is not as extensive. Sometimes changes to APN settings will fix issues.

T-Mobile sure hopes no one notices any difference with 5G VoNR

Looks like T-Mobile is done beefing up their LTE network. Now that CDMA is gone they're gonna use that 5MHz of spectrum for n25.

Currently n2 and n25 aren't enabled on my S22 Ultra on T-Mobile firmware. Hopefully they enable that soon if that is indeed their plan to use that spectrum for n25.

I tested for this (n25 and n71 VoNR) on my s21 ultra factory unlocked without success, however T-Mobile firmware may be needed for the VoNR along with a good location.

    · The security of your device has been improved.

This does not fix the n7 showing instead of n41 issue. During the update, T-Mobile appears several times. Updates may be becoming more carrier specific.

My factory unlocked A32 5G remains on Android 11 with January 1 security fixes.
