  1. I actually got 4G LTE in a few spots today. The speed is still really slow for LTE but it was there. It works in Morris park, down by Allerton ave+white plains road and also at the BJs down off Boston Rd.

The speed are no better than what I had with 4G on my Epic touch but they are faster than the 3G.

Are we ever gonna get speeds anywhere close to what ATT and Verizon have? I can dream, cant I?

you should look back a couple pages of this thread you will see plenty of users getting over 20mbs and awesome pings that wimax can only dream of
  2. I think the Brooklyn signal was up high at that location. There is an elevated train platform there. You probably will not get it at street level. But it may have been testing, as described above.

I actually tried out LTE from obove on the train platform and walked around the area, but no dice...also the train platform in that area is farely low.. So i dont know how much difference a 30ft elevation would make.

Sprint doesn't promise any speed. They advertise 6-8 Mbps. They advertise that, not because of loads, but because LTE performance is signal strength dependent. The peak speeds are people with a strong signal. If you built a heat map of signal strength, most customers would have 6-8Mbps or greater. Some will have less, but they would be in building that hinders RF or at the edge of service.

I have a VZW LTE hotspot. My speeds have been dropping dramatically. My peak daytime speeds most days are now 4-6Mbps. So there is no guarantee of future performance if even VZW gets bogged down. But Sprint has half the customers of VZW, is building a denser network, and has more options to add more carriers for capacity than VZW has. All in all, I feel good that Sprint will be able to keep their LTE speeds up for a long time. Especially now with Softbank coming on board. They will not tolerate failure.

Sprints network seems extremely promising, but I wonder how much effect will them leasing there network to other providers would it have on sprints own network on the long term.

  4. Remember that the 3G only sites are quick and easy to get 4G LTE running on. However, there has not been a lot of movement in NYC since the hurricane. So if things don't get moving again, then you may very well end up being correct.

On a side note, good to see you still actively responding to post Robert. We all appreciate the work you put into this site. Hope your well man...

  5. Just a quick update for the Westchester folks.

I am getting LTE on my Galaxy Nexus in North White Plains by the train station and I'm lucky enough that my home is within range. Speeds on LTE have been between 5 to 9MBps download and 2 to 5MPps upload. If these speeds stay consistent I will be very happy coming from terrible 3g of 0.07MBps - 0.3 MBps on a good day.

Your Profile info doesn't specify what type of device you own, but if its an android device fire up sensorly when you are in that area..
  6. I wouldn't go as far as saying the gap has closed between Kingsbridge and 167th just yet,

Notice I said between Jerome ave 178st to Kingsbridge road...I was able to hold a signal until yankees stadium stop..on the 4 train (downloaded a 300mb podcast from jerome 183rd street to 161st) Take a look @ sensorly you will see there was still abit of signal over jerome and 161st (but very faint! 3-4mb second) But enought to finish the download. Also you mentioned Webster? is there LTE on fordham and webster?
  7. No one can force me to stay, I have to right to say how I feel. If u don't like it don't read my comment. Not complaining just saying my speed is unacceptable. I post on here all the time.

Your in the bronx! Definitely should not take it for granted...the bronx is the only borough with some decent 4G coverage..I have more empathy for some of the other members and sprint customers that have yet to even see the first sign of 4G in there vicinity. But besides all that, I would assume that most members that follow this forum (and not just this thread) have a new found appreciation of the scale and the hard work that's being put into this deployment, plus the technology going into it is quite impressive compared to the "competitors" and as other members have pointed out, this deployment is going quite quickly in comparison to those other guys..Take a look @ sensorly and zoom out on ATT's 4G coverage and that will give you a pretty good idea of how fast Sprint is moving!
