Its funny that you mention that, my buddy just recently got a Nexus 4 on Tmobile, and he gets decent speeds (5mb-15mbsec) but his pings are 150ms+, and a side by side comparison indoors i saw between 5mb-10mbsec but my pings were 35-60ms and the difference was clear browsing and streaming etc..Also on a side note, outdoors around my place i get between 15-35mb sec, his levels out around 15-20mb sec with about the same pings mentioned above.I know! Kind of reminds me how those T-Mobile Faux-G users post their screenshots of 17Mbps speedtests with pings in the high thousands.
-
But look at those pings! that's what makes everything load nice and snappy, Just think, in a few months you can probably say bye bye to those 300ms pings and 100k/s downloads..My LTE speeds. I was moving so speeds fluctuated greatly. In Brooklyn. Those uploads aren't so great besides the 5mbps upload.

Alright guys, thanks for the clarification, thats why I love this forum..

Thanks for the info, that kinda makes more sense, I just figured since sprint is actively upgrading now as we speak PRL updates might be a better way to have the latest list of updated towers. Plus, I ride the subway very frequently, and am a firm believer in airplane mode on the subway as a way of conserving a ton of battery life, and also receiving signal instantly after getting off the subway.Since PRL's don't change all that often, running the PRL update is pretty much a roundabout way of cycling your radios, it forces your phone to re-scan through all the frequencies, checking first for LTE then 3G. Much easier to just cycle airplane mode.
-
So your saying that cycling airplane mode on and off does exactly the same thing??? I thought something else entirely different.Updating a PRL will do nothing for even your 1x signal. All it does for you right now is cycle your radio. Only real change you will see in a prl update is when 800smr is added to your market.

Hey Robert,
how much effect does updating PRL have on LTE signal? Since 3G/1x can come from a separate site, would updating the PRL and Profile help with picking up better signal wherever you are..Im currently getting pretty crappy voice signal, when before i was getting excellent voice in the same place. But, unfortunately I am on a AOSP Rom (CM 10.1) without a way of updating my current PRL.

WOW could you imagine if that were the case, alot of people here would have left sprint a long time ago..if that were all to look forward too lolIts probably Sensorly mapping out future soon to be announced LTE towers or unactive LTE towers

You should sign up for sponsorship so you can get detailed info on deployment and tower locations. The finished NY deployment is definitely promising. It does. I see a lot of medium to dark shades of purple. I'm a bit concerned about in building coverage though because AT&T and Verizon have very strong signals indoors here in NYC.
In my apartment I have about 3 bars and my cousin with AT&T has 5 for 3G and LTE. So does my sister with Verizon.
-
Im sure once the density portion of the deployment is well underway..we should see a nice stable situation, take a peek @ chicago, on sensorly, looks really promising.I would love some 800mhz LTE. Too bad it's gonna be a while and my iPhone 5 isn't capable. :-(
-
So its more of a logistical thing rather than a technical one in terms of making the switch. At a network vision site, all the hardware is new and replaces all the legacy equipment. The new NV equipment is 800MHz capable.

Hey Robert, since we are on the subject of signal strength and quality, I noticed Chicago has a ton of 800Mhz towers, were those sites converted from standard 1900 or were they setup from the ground up? and if they were converted, are they planning on switching all towers to 800Mhz eventually?Signal strength is only one factor. Signal quality and carrier capacity can reduce the quality. A very weak signal with a device with a strong radio, with little noise and ample carrier capacity can be crystal clear.

Got crazy speeds on grand concourse and tremont ave in the Bronx..near the D train. I used to get between 2-4mb a sec now 15-20mb sec.
-
You should probably go back some pages, and not only that check out sensorly so you can see where it is in NYC.No LTE yet in NYC. I drove around NYC the past weekend and find no LTE.

I get it every place i visit for the most part...burnside area, fordham, kingsbridge, boston road, yankees stadium..so yeah pretty much all the areas I tend to visit..on some occasions it will drop to 3G, and i just do a quick toggle of airplane mode (I have an icon on my main screen with airplane toggle) and im back on LTE.Nextgen, Do you get LTE on almost every block your on up in the Bronx?
-
I have never lost 4G in the bx(posting this from my 4G connected phone) , what locations are you having issues in?Everywhere I used to get 4G I don't get it anymore. Why turn it on and then off? To knock me back down and tell me 3g is better than before. At least give me better 3g speed.

Actually if you notice the completed sites has accelerated considerably in nyc so I don't think it will be at the same rate regardless..If u think about it each borough takes 10 weeks that could up to a year for some boros that would suck for some but I think everything will spread out in the next coming months so I wouldn't worry
-
Yes Sir! and that's also taking into account that Hurricane Sandy definitely delayed things!Wow was it only 10 weeks ago when someone spotted 4g for the first time in the Bronx? Wow
-
BK is definitely ramping up now..@ this point your probably gonna be covered very soon! I suspect less than 6 weeks BK will be well lit! Look @ the bronx, just 10 weeks ago was almost nothing.I'm losing my patience waiting for 4g! Help!

yeah those pings are actually pretty great for 3G..LTE is more inline to the pings you mention..The speeds seem good but the ping times are a little high for a nv upgrade. I heard pings should be in the low 40,s- 60,s
-
Try between 5th and 6th aveDown any specific ave?
-
I think its more around the Bryant park area...Considering the fact that sprint LTE sites cover limited range, Macy's on 34st might be a bit of a stretch taking into account the massive amount of obstruction in the city. Try walking towered 42st..i think you will have better luckBy Macy's now. No lte here
-
It looks like that LTE area in midtown is finally expanding.

Looks like strong LTE signal coming in and around 162st and i87 in the bronx.. Near Yankee Stadium.

This sounds Great! but dont see anything on sensorly..did you start mapping the trip?Just caught an LTE signal inside the McDonald's on Empire Blvd. Lasted from there until I got inside the Prospect Park subway station. Just mapped it with Sensorly.
