  1. This would worry me greatly, but, as partially quoted above from Ars, this phone is based on the G2, which apparently is getting good battery life... 11.5 hours with the screen on!? The G2 is has a 3000 mAh battery, so if the same tricks are used in the Nexus and the hardware is similar, the Nexus' 2300 mAh battery should last 8.8 hours with the screen continuously on. Keep in mind the Nexus 5's screen will actually be smaller. Not too shabby. AnandTech did a solid, in-depth explanation of PSR, and it looks to have the potential to really help out with battery life. Let's hope is makes it to the Nexus 5. I'll also add that AnandTech was absolutely amazed by the G2's battery life, which bodes well.
  2. I definitely would not draw any conclusions about the battery from these 3 second videos. People's charging habits differ widely, and this is almost certainly a preproduction prototype. When you say it's connected to Google Services, what do you mean aside from the phone having an Internet connection?
  3. This would seem to be the bigger news here. Will Sprint force those on legacy contracts to switch any time soon? e.g. by denying legacy contract customers the option of adding 800Mhz phones to their account?
  4. My contract ended today (happy contract ending day to me!). Just checked a New York zip code to compare my shared Everything Data plan to the new ones to see if it was worth making the switch on my three lines. I was shocked to see the Everything plans are completely gone. The My Way plans are all that are available, and they are more expensive in my case. It's a real shame as it was one of the few things Sprint had going for it over the others. What's the consensus on how long it'll be before you can't even renew the Everything plans? I have my fingers tightly crossed I'll be able to upgrade to the Nexus 5 under the old contract. If I have to switch, other carriers will be a whole lot more attractive.
  5. I'm connected to BSL "461-599 Jefferston Dr, St Louis" according to SignalCheck Pro. Anyone know exactly where the tower is? Also, does anyone know the closest tower to the intersection of Big Bend and Forest Park Pkwy and if it's already been upgraded? I'm on a GS2, there's no WiMAX nearby, and my reception and data speeds are horrible. Thanks!
  6. An Android Central guy also seems to be skeptical of evleaks and seems to have another source telling him evleaks is wrong: ... and later, in reference to the above second sentence... evleaks has been solid in the past, but I'm really not sure about this one. Here's the image he seemingly posted as evidence, although the model numbers don't match up (remove it if this violates forum rules): Those dimension don't match up with the FCC filing, do they? ETA: mc_gusto already linked to this article.
  7. I tipped off the tier 1 blogs and made sure to prominently mention S4GRU, so I'd hope they give proper credit. Dieter Bohn was particularly classy in mentioning S4GRU in the second sentence. Engadget was the first to act just a few minutes after I gave them the tip so they seem to have the most linkbacks.
  8. I sent your quick analysis around to some of the blogs hoping you guys would get credit for the scoop (hope you don't mind). Looks like it's getting some traction... http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/05/lg-nexus-5-fcc/
  9. Serious question: given the hedging on the meaning of the band certifications (quoted below), what are the odds this will be a Sprint device? Are any of these bands unique to Sprint and unlikely to be in a non-Sprint phone? Is this device intended to work across all carriers? Interpretation from the more knowledgeable is appreciated!
  10. The Verge (certainly not the definitive authority on the matter) unequivocally says: And here's a little bit of motion: Check out the reflection on the left where the LG logo is on the Nexus 4. Those don't look similar/identical to you? Either way, as a Nexus it probably won't come to Sprint, but I'm still holding out hope.
  11. Not strictly a G2, but seeing as the last Nexus was a derivative of the Optimus G, there's a good chance this leaked Nexus is a derivative of the G2 (especially considering the LG logo on the back). Holding out a sliver of hope there's a Sprint version... http://www.theverge.com/2013/9/3/4691652/did-google-just-leak-the-nexus-5-kitkat-video
  12. Gizmodo says... And direct from Mr. Wimberly... It would be great if this is true and there's a version for Sprint (that's tri-band)... If it really is coming Q4 we should see FCC filings in the near future. This could also be a sign that Android 5 is coming down the pike.
  13. LG has “no plans” for a Google Play edition G2 Damn. Ditto I don't want a phablet and I won't be switching to the iPhone, which leaves me out of luck for the foreseeable future. Here's an insightful comment by an AnandTech commentor.
  14. I mentioned this a few pages ago, but the consensus was it won't happen on Sprint.
  15. My markets are NYC and St. Louis. Supposedly LTE is almost ready in both. In NYC WiMAX is ok (nothing special - in a midtown skyscraper I'm currently getting 4.6Mb/s down and 1.5 up). St. Louis is where I could really stand to benefit from the upgrade - very little usable WiMAX where I tend to be. And to think, I thought I was future-proofing by waiting for a WiMAX phone. Anyway, so long G2. Glad to see it usher in the tri-band future. Here's to hoping it helps flag any problems on the LTE network as they finish up the buildout.
  16. I held onto the Pre for 3 years until something I liked came along. In this case it's even easier since the GSII I've got has Android 4.1.2. So software-wise, there's not a whole lot I'm missing out on, at least until Android 5.0. Even the GS4 and this G2 don't actually do anything that I can't do right now. It's the network upgrades I actually care about.
  17. Awaiting the Nexus 5 on the off chance it A. is actually made and B. shows up on Sprint. Otherwise, looks like I'll be waiting for a "Moto X Phone Pro" or X2 with tri-band. Argh.
  18. Edge user seems like a bastardization of Edge Case. I don't mind the term actually. Agreed that Gizmodo is not the definitive authority, but that whole post does not bode well. This is really the only way I'd consider it, but I'd much rather buy the phone with the software I want instead of having to break the warranty and go wild with customizations.
  19. Just as I feared... DOA as far as I'm concerned... http://gizmodo.com/lg-g2-hands-on-killer-hardware-dead-on-arrival-softwa-1055611732
  20. http://youtu.be/xRtCJmcw-6A The skin looks terrible. Look at the monstrosity that is the notification panel at 0:25.
  21. You're definitely right about that. I was contemplating that exact scenario and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. You'd essentially be wasting the built-in subsidy that you're always paying for as part of the plan. I'd probably still opt to do it, but I can't imagine the market would be worth it. But if the hardware is already there (which it is), then maybe the negligible work on the software could make it profitable (to LG) if they sell it at the exorbitant unsubsidized price? Create more buzz and tinker-friendly street-cred...? Portability between the various Sprint MVNOs could be a selling point. But I agree that it's an extremely unlikely scenario.
  22. That seems like an argument against the likelihood of future Nexus devices, which I agree may be in doubt, not Google Play Edition devices. I know there are technical hurdles (there's a decent discussion of them here: http://www.androidcentral.com/ask-ac-google-play-edition-phones-verizon-or-sprint) but it's by no means an impossibility. There are plenty of ROMS to convert the Verizon GS4 to a Play Edition version (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343355), so the software side can't be that complicated. What were the problems with the Galaxy Nexus on Sprint and VZ that you're referring to? I have multiple friends who have the VZ Galaxy Nexus who love it and get updates pretty frequently (though not as fast as on the GSM carriers). Eh, some parts are now broken out, but not the main components of the OS, new features, capabilities and bug fixes are not added or fixed, and it does nothing about the terrible skins OEMs put over the OS. The leaks so far point to the G2 having a completely ridiculous skin which is a deal-breaker for me... That's interesting. Definitelty explains a fair amount. But I would point out that the Google Play Edition devices are not AOSP. They do include proprietary components like customized camera software, so special APKs don't seem like they would be impossible. Overall, yea, you're all probably right that it's extremely unlikely, but I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed anyway. Really hoping it's possible to get a Play Edition Sprint Tri-band LTE phone, even if it's not the G2. I'm sick of skins and a horrendous OS update process.
