  1. I may give it a shot tomorrow afternoon. By 5 blocks, do you mean 140th and Broadway or 130th? Also, I ditched Android in favor of the iPhone 5 so I have no idea if there's anything comparable to updating profile and prl apart from resetting the network settings. I believe there's some dialer code to do that but why should updating the prl have any bearing on LTE?
  2. big pockets of the city have abysmal speeds and it's why we're so eagerly anticipating NV. don't get me wrong, there are some areas where coverage is good, but the problem is how tempermental it is. move a block in either direction and while data speeds are still ok, pings go through the roof. then move a few more blocks and data speeds are terrible. that's how it's been here for at least the last year and has been getting progressively worse. the idea of LTE being not only fast but actually connectable - unline Wimax most of the time - is very exciting for those of us who've suffered though (and paid for) poor service for a very long time.
  3. am I doing something wrong? - I don't see an image
  4. that's fantastic - would have to assume you're one of the only people connected right now, though. is your phone intermittently grabbing the connection or are you able to stay on for a while? I may run up there to see if I can pull an LTE signal, too.
  5. no need to be nasty - I think the issue is that you don't really understand the nature of headlines and that something like, "Some Sprint markets may only partially be active before March 2013" isn't the kind of thing editors want to see.
  6. well it kind of does: I think the overall point of the article, that there may not be widespread coverage in these markets until next March, is justifiable. Quite frankly, it's difficult to excite customers by telling them a footprint of a few blocks has access to a faster network while they're dealing with subpar speed(s) in their own neighborhoods. I understand your point that it's unfair to make blanket statements like "Sprint won't show up in X until Y" but for the average customer, they don't really care about a company's infracstructure projects until they can actually benefit from them.
  7. I was referring more specifically to how little has happened in my neighborhood to improve the data service. Most other areas in Manhattan have pretty extensive upgrades blanketing them; up here the nearest upgraded sites are too far away to be of much use to people in and around Columbia University. My concern going forward is that Network Vision will be similarly sporadic in this neighborhood. I have no idea what the locations are of the NV towers, but I do know that the current 3G and WiMax sources are spread really thin up here and as such are woefully over capacity. Not really sure why it's the case up here that coverage thins out while immediately north of here coverage is far more dense, but that's just how it is.
  8. what's interesting is the viewing a close-up of that map shows absolutely nothing happening for those of us in Morningside Heights. I have no idea if the "data speed upgrades" and "data capacity upgrades" shown have anything to do with Network Vision or not, but according to their own map, nothing is happening in this neighborhood.
  9. I was recently sent an Airave 2.5 after my Airave 2.0 started to behave oddly. To be honest, it's performance with the iPhone 5 has not been at all reliable. Both my wife and I are using the 2.5 for Sprint service in our apartment, she's on an Android device and has no issues with the 2.5 at all. With the iPhone 5, however, I'm constantly losing connection to the 2.5, often roaming for no reason whatsoever. Data constantly bounces between 1X and 3G, again, for seemingly no reason. In addition, my iPhone often seems to have trouble finding the 2.5 and occasionally requires me to flip to airplane mode and back in order to search for Sprint. I'm considering taking my iPhone to the Apple store to have it checked out because something is up but I can say that the iPhone 5 actually worked better with the Airave 2.0 than it does with the 2.5.
  10. I've never owned an Apple phone. But I've not bought a new Android device for three reasons: 1) Sprint's data service in my neighborhood is terrible. 2) I have no interest in carrying a 5+" tall device in my pocket; that's why I've got a tablet. 3) NFC is far too easy to RFID sniff. I don't need all of my stuff stolen because I walked too close to a hacker. now tell me how tight my jeans are
  11. there are changes. perhaps your problem is with the Apple logo on the case.
  12. totally agreed, just seems like people either dumping on Apple (an understandable practice) or rationalizing their decision to stay with an older device. plus, if I'm not mistaken, no on other device this year will have lte 800 support.
  13. that's interesting, care to elaborate as to why?
  14. CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)
  15. yes and that's why I'm here. basically I'm trying to determine (1) if there's any significant chance Sprint will be able to offer service comparable to Verizon and (1a) how long that will take to happen. I don't have the disposable income to burn on phones and lackluster data service the way some here do so I have to be a bit more careful about my decisions.
  16. amen. plus I'm seriously skeptical about Sprint's ability to deliver any of the things they've promised (particularly within this market) and to do so within an acceptable timeframe. my monthly Sprint bill is very high and to continue paying them nearly $3K yearly for data speeds that don't crack 0.3Mbps in my neighborhood is just tossing money in the garbage. to get on the hook for a new device and a even longer period of time is borderline masochism.
  17. I think the A6, the increased screen size and addition of LTE are a huge upgrade from the more or less pointless 4s that being said, it runs into the same situation that every LTE device does for me and that is that I have zero intention of buying an LTE phone until Sprint has working LTE coverage in New York City.
  18. were you inordinately disappointed when the 4s was announced?
  19. what exactly is "meh" about it, or, a better question what is anymore "meh" about this than the 4s
  20. quite frankly, and based purely on my hundreds of phone calls to Sprint, they seem to know very little about what their equipment is doing at any given time. every device my wife and I own, including our friends in this neighborhood, all get atrocious data speeds. every call to Sprint is met with an unflinching, "everything is working perfectly." it's not until hours are spent on the phone arguing with Sprint that they'll acknowledge a problem exists and even then the subsequent results are dubious. one of the biggest hurdles between Sprint and its customer's satisfaction is that it can be extremely difficult for the customer to actually get his point across in a way that will lead to any action.
