  1. The 3G drops are likely caused by capacity issues at the site. Where I live there is only 1 site that services the town. Prior to the NV equip, 3G would not drop probably due to having more carrier cards. After the NV equipment install, I started having even worse 3G speeds and lots of drops. Its been almost a year and this site still doesn't have LTE. In other locations where there are a lot of people and poor LTE signal, I will have similar drops when on 3G. Other times in less populated areas, the 3G doesn't drop at all and data works really well. So essentially it's just insufficient capacity for the single EVDO carrier. 2. I think connecting and dropping EVDO is not an issue of the phone. It's a cell capacity issue. I live in a town that only has one cell site and is only 3G accepted. Speeds are horrible and I do lose the EVDO connection. But everywhere else the EVDO stays connected. On a side note, it appears the cause of the issue I was having is the radio baseband version. The one for android 4.4.3 and 4.4.4. have a bug that messes up the CDMA radio when switching from a CDMA SIM to GSM and back. Flashed the radio for 4.4.1 and its working fine now. 3. The issue returns upon rebooting. I have to either run a PRL update or reboot the phone in 1x mode otherwise the 1x part of the radio is disabled. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  4. I think my phone has taken a crap. Every time I reboot the 1x part of the radio disables unless I put the phone in 1x mode beforehand. also the disabling will happen at random during standby. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk Edit: so I did a PRL update via WiFi when the 1x is disabled and like magic the radio starts functioning normally. Could it be a bad PRL? I'm on 55020.
  5. again this happened. I tried the Radio Info page and nothing was different. I tried flashing a new radio baseband and nothing. popped the SIM out and put it back and nothing. So far the only fix is to put the phone in 1x mode and reboot. Not a big issue except I don't know when the radio is disabled if I am on LTE.
  6. I don't know why but this kilo vs kebi reminded me of this. Its totally not related or the same thing. Just posting this for laughs. I thing we all could use a laugh. Verizon Math Fail:
  7. A quick Wikipedia (yes it's not the absolute source for everything) search puts the kebibyte designation as a replacement for kilobyte. Kilo as a standard unit does mean 1000. Kebi is supposed to mean 1024 and was created by the international electrotechnical commission. 1000kilobytes for a megabyte is correct if counting via decimals. 1024kilobytes is correct for counts in binary. But in an attempt to differentiate the two, the kebi, mebi, gibi prefixes were created. But for the sake of this thread we will stick with the traditional more well known 1024 kilobytes even though it is in a sense incorrect. As AJ stated, the kebi is essentially moot since its not a widely used designation. I highly doubt Sprint or any other carrier will care to know the difference between kilo and kebi.
  8. Google should know better. 1000 kilobytes is not 1 Megabyte.
  9. According to Google it's 41.943 GB...odd. When I did the calculation it came to exactly 40GB. Edit: I misunderstood what you meant. I see the issue now. you have more data then what you're supposed to have.
  10. Can always use google to convert the kilobytes to gigabytes.
  11. Hmm so it only happens to you after each swap? The last time I swapped was Friday August 29. The first issue was on Sunday Aug 31 and again today. Usually after swapping SIMs you have a notification stating the requested network is unavailable. I didnt get that notification in this case. The disabling of the 1x was random. Next time it happens, I will look at the radio info (*#*#4636#*#*) to see if something changed.
  12. So it's a SIM swapping issue then. I too have used a T-Mobile SIM in this phone. But I haven't swapped in a while. Looks like a full restore might be in order?
  13. I doubt it's a signalcheck bug because phone calls won't work. Oddly enough the phone will still try to connect the call. I don't get the "mobile network unavailable" message like when I am outside of voice coverage.
  14. Sorry if this has been addressed, I don't come to this thread often. Has anyone had issues where the 1x part of the radio gets disabled? EVDO works, LTE works too if I toggle airplane mode. Just 1x refuses to work. The only fix that works is to put the phone in 1x only mode and reboot. Its only happened twice so far.
  15. The Moss Landing site is quite rural and under utilized but it could NOT handle the data stream. just want to clarify. I know quite well that the theoretical max of 3.1 Mbps is being shared; it's just frustrating to be go from having 5+ Mbps LTE to barely 200 Kbps EVDO especially since I rely on my phone for my work to download maps and permits and reference other documents. Its quite embarrassing when I am doing an inspection and can't download the contact information for the property I am on. On a positive note, I finally got a glimpse of Band 26. (don't know if i can say where since it might belong in the Premier Sponsor thread). Sadly the Band 26 only propagated as far as the Band 25 assuming it originated from the same site.
  16. I do hope that is the case but it honestly doesn't explain why some towers in rural locations where the population is quite small, barely hits 1.0 Mbps and have LTE at about 15Mbps. One location I went to recently had 32Mbps down on LTE but it can't even run a live data stream of 192Kbps on 3G. This particular site is located at Hwy 1 and Hilltop Road in Moss Landing California. Very rural, only some shipping businesses are located. there is no large population.
  17. i am somewhat skeptical that 3G speeds remain slow because more users are on 3G than LTE. do the 3G cards at sites have a separate backhaul input than the 4G cards? or are they both on the same input? What I am getting at is could the install crew have left the 3G card connected to the T1s even though they went back to activate the LTE connection once the fiber backhaul was ready?
  18. This is what it is. Although this picture is a bit old as well. If you guys want up an updated picture, I can get one. Right now that water tower looks crazy. Has a giant scaffold and being repainted. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  19. Look what popped out of the ground the other day, could the recent rain we had have led to this? Seems like the old water tower may no longer be the sprint cell site. Can't wait for it to be completed. This is in Gonzales, CA. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  20. I believe yesterday when I updated signal check pro, it was mentioned that the update disabled showing band 41. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  21. I am quite surprised about the issues many people are having. I haven't encountered any problems with LTE. I wonder if this problem could be due to the SIM card. Maybe we should have a poll to see which SIM (UICC) people have and if there is a connection to the LTE issues. As for activation taking a long time , I just skipped it once I saw bars on the phone. Voice worked, data didn't. Proceed to do a profile update then rebooted. After the phone booted up I received a message indicating the network was preparing data services and then the phone was fully functional. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  22. So after a large headache and much time spent on the phone with various sprint reps on Monday the 5th on trying to get a UICC/SIM card, I was able to get my phone activated yesterday (Nov. 6). so far I really like the phone. I wonder how people are doing now with getting the SIM. Do what I did, go to a Best Buy and first see if they have Sprint SIM Cards. They wont' be free, mine cost 29.99. Before I made the purchase, I contacted customer care to see if they would be willing to credit me the amount. after explaining the full situation and difficulty in obtaining the card to activate my new phone, they were willing to credit the amount. It may or may not work for you. I might have been that lucky person. (I hope this doesn't violate the rules, if it does, then I have no problem with the post being edited)
  23. Mine is set to arrive tomorrow. I ordered a 32GB. hope there are no issues. I went to my local sprint store and the girl told me they haven't even received the training materials for the phone. When I asked her about the SIMs she told me they don't carry any, not even to replace the ones in the iPhone. Something tells me that activation is not going to be easy. 24. wouldn't that defeat the purpose of using the Nexus 5 as the method of payment?
