  1. I would take the Straight Talk suggestion. I tested out T-Mobile (for the same reason as you) where I work (King City, CA) for about 3 weeks, at which point I switched to Straight Talk. The T-Mobile network was very spotty and according to the coverage maps, my place of work only had 2G. I initially didn't see that as an issue since I was going to use an iPhone which doesn't support AWS but turns out the 2G was actually GPRS, not EDGE. I was quite disappointed. I was peaking at 50kbps....close to Sprint's network here. Straight talk is better here but I do get slower speeds at times, probably due to the proxy on the data connection. I hope T-Mobile works out as a temporary solution for you.
  2. I understand. I guess I should have asked a more general question such as: is it on track or delayed? Unless that type of question is under the same restriction.
  3. Hey Everyone I apologize in advanced if there is a thread for this. I looked (yes, even with search) to find a thread regarding the south bay market. I am certain there is one since there was a topic regarding the first LTE sightings in Palo Alto and Cupertino, California. Anyways. I just wanted to know if there are any new updates to NV for these areas. Specificially for Salinas, CA and King City CA (zip codes: 93905,93906, 93901,93930) I ask because I have debated on either switching completely to T-Mobile or just suspend my Sprint line for 6 months and wish for the best at the end of that timeframe. Just pure drama right now with Sprint Tech Support.
  4. All this talk of LTE in San Jose area has me excited since I am in the south bay market. Probably explains the odd collection of cell towers near my work. 3 towers. one has just at&t equipment, the second tower has only Sprint equipment (actually the cabinet being used is small and usually associated with 4G equipment) the third tower has a Verizon Room (that big building, whats the proper name for that modular building?), a Nextel Room and a small MetroPCS cabinet same in size to the Sprint one i mentioned.
  5. a bit late to the game here, but i finally got to test out a wimax device and can confirm an active protection site in Salinas, CA specifically around zip code 93905 and partially in 93901. I have since switched back to my Apple device so I dont' recall the data speed results but I know in one area it reached more than 7Mbps down. and it reached the cap of 1.5Mbps up.
  6. a bit off topic, are PRL's dependant on device and/or market?
  7. Oh wow that's great news. Hopefully it's like that when I'm there.
  8. I have the same concern. I have a weekend trip planned pretty soon to Vegas. It seems like everyone here is recommending to switch to a WiMax phone. I currently have an iPhone but just recently purchased a Samsung Nexus S 4G through eBay. anyone have an idea how well the battery performs while using WiMax? I know the battery would die fast on my old EVO 4G. then again any EVDO phone will die quickly in poor data speed areas.
  9. So I got the follow up call this morning. Data speeds are still meh. Not much of an improvement but what can I do. The rep said he would escalate the issue (like they always claim). I guess I will call ticket support or advanced tech support next week.
  10. Hi Everyone, I called Sprint to try to report slow data speeds in the town I work in, only because the sprint.com/network site did not have any scheduled data upgrades. The rep told me that [supposedly] a tower about 8 miles from my location is undergoing data upgrades which is putting the data load on the tower that is one mile from my location. What I am wondering is, what is the likelihood of this being true? The two closest towers from my location are between 5-10 miles away. The one south of me is undergoing data upgrades. Can anyone tell me if what the rep said has any truth to it? I work in Zip Code 93930 (King City, CA), that tower is located off Lonoak Road, near 1st Street. The two towers away from me are located in Greenfield (to the North) and San Lucas (to the south), with the one in San Lucas undergoing the data speed upgrade. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. I trust the community here more than I do the Sprint Reps.
  11. cool thanks. I was just looking at the Network Vision/LTE Deployment Running List thread which you updated. It shows the SF market doesn't even have one LTE site available yet (expected in October). I take it's going to be several more months of waiting before deployment begins down here.
  12. Any updates on South Bay Market? I live in Salinas and work in all of south Monterey County (Gonzales, Soledad, Greenfield, King City) and the data speeds just keep getting worse. King City and Greenfield had decent speeds until schools let out for summer. Salinas has some spots where download on 1X is "faster" (if you can ignore the higher latency) than EVDO. I'm talking about the difference between 5kbps on EVDO vs 30kbps on 1X. Either way, they are not useful.
  13. did not think about that. I haven't been out there in person to look around to see if there are 2 towers. According to Google Earth's images there is only 1 tower. The location itself is in the middle of a bare field near some railroad tracks, so public access might not be a possibility.
  14. New tower in Salinas, CA. Zip code is 93901. its located off Brunken Road between Brunken and Elvee Court. Oddly enough it used to be immediatly adjacent to another tower (according to Sprint's maps) that was scheduled to receive the band-aid fixes. That tower is no longer listed on Sprint's site. Despite this new tower, there have been no improvements. I wonder if this new tower is an old Nextel tower that was repurposed. It first popped up around mid May.
