  1. This is true and a lot of reviewers did mention how cluttered touchwiz can be. I think LG is trying a litte too hard to be like samsung and coming up short every time rather than trying to do their own thing.
  2. Not really surprised by this at all but I will hold on and wait for a few other reviews being that gizmodo is definitely not my go to place when it comes to anything.
  3. Personally I like this device(from a hardware perspective anyway) I just don't like the buttons on the back which is totally stupid in my opinion. I also would have preferred a removable battery and micro sd slot but I don't expect things to stay same as technology advances. Memory simply can't be that expensive so I don't see why they just don't offer at least a minimum of 32gb of storage if no sd card is supported. I travel quite frequently and I don't have any issues with my One and battery life, if need be though I do also travel with a portable energizer 8000mah charger which works great.
  4. No problem, just keep in mind that the sprint's version of the one doesn't support as many bands as the unlocked version directly from htc so service could be hit or miss depending on carrier and what frequencies are supported. Also, lte connectivity will only be available on sprints network, you can get edge and 3g in many cases on att/tmobile and of course many carriers overseas.
  5. LOL!!!! ok. Yes the sprint version has a sim slot which can be unlocked which is different than bootloader unlocked. The sim slot is on the upper left side of the device. You can unlock the device to be used on other networks. The only two ways to unlock the sim is through sprint but the device will have to be active for at least 90 days on your account. You can get it unlocked before 90 days but that will need approval and may take a couple of days to go through. The second option is if you are rooted, this will do the same thing sprint does over the air to unlock the device but you are just doing it manually. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243724&page=86 This particular thread is long as hell but start with the very last post on that page which tells you what you need to do. The rest of the discussion gets interesting from there. Download an app called terminal emulator and even though his post didn't say, make sure that you first grant terminal emulator superuser permissions.
  6. You can sim unlock the device which will allow you to use the phone on other gsm networks(for the most part), that should add quite a bit to the resale value. Edit: Please tell me that you already knew that the sprint version of the one has a sim slot and concidered a world phone?
  7. A lot of the times it takes a minute for the esn to show as bad in sprints system. I have seen phones with bad esn's be on an account for almost a year before it was flagged for having a bad esn. Sometimes these things happen but what you can do is get it rooted and sim unlocked which should add to the value on ebay.
  8. The button layout doesn't bother me as much as before even though I do think that they should have gone with the more traditional layout or even onscreen buttons with a phone this big. Anyway, this had better not be just a large One, I hope it has comparable software features like the note series. If not then note 3 here I come.
  9. Oh ok, cool. I am in Jonesboro which is about 5 minutes south of the airport. Forsyth is about 30 minutes south of where I am. Not sure of the lte status in that area though, the last time I was in that area several months ago, I had lte right up until I got to forsyth then it dropped to 3g. Macon does have a few sites live though for what its worth.
  10. Oh ok, as far as reps, they don't know whats going on what so ever. About 2 weeks ago I called to get a credit on my bill and the rep wouldn't give it to me being that based on their system the VI market hasn't had one single outage for the entire year so she thought I was just trying to get a freebie. Needless to say the rest of that conversation didn't go to well and I almost bolted to ATT, but I managed to resist that urge. Anyway, I am back in atlanta so I am smothered and covered in lte with no complaints until I get back to st.thomas. In all honesty though, service in my opinion has improved quite a bit over the last few weeks in St. thomas so hopefully we see lte soon.
  11. Back in march the St. John tower was accepted along with 7 st. thomas towers. Not to long after that the final 8th tower was accepted on st. thomas. The sprint website has been showing 8 on st. thomas and 1 on st. john since then.
  12. Its always said 9 upgrades, St. John's 3g nv upgrade was completed the exact same time as St. Thomas back in march.
  13. Yes I am familiar with our history and how things changed after hurricane marilyn, I was still living on the island and experienced it first hand(damn those clueless weather people) on the night of Sept.14 into sept. 15th. My point was simply due to how buildings are constructed, it will lead to significant signal loss regardless of location to the tower.
  14. That's not the issue, the problem in the VI is that due to strict building codes most homes are concrete fortresses since there will always be a constant threat of hurricanes. You could be standing outside and have full bars but as soon as you go inside your signal strength gets cut in half at the minimum. 800mhz would work wonders in the VI for sprint customers but I don't think that will happen anytime soon if ever.
  15. Yeah me too, but man that was a hell of a lot of rain that fell yesterday.
  16. Trying to find a way to "beat the system" can be considered fraudulent. In either case I am sure they have that covered in writing somewhere and you just somehow overlooked it. As a matter of fact something like this sounds a little too simple for anyone to overlook.
  17. You can get a higher resolution display for sure but at this point 1080p is more than sufficient for a mobile device. The nexus 10 has a much higher resolution which is appropriate being that it has a larger 10 inch screen.
  18. Uhhh, what else were you expecting?
  19. LG has always been trying to make their presence known and to compete the big dogs but fail because of lack of support. LG had the first dual core phone, LG had the first 3d phone, LG was one of the first with a 720p screen, LG was one of the first with a quad core device. LG has a wide range of devices but they have always had a flagship device to run with the other big dogs but in the end they never supported their products. LG would release a device and that would basically be it, on to the next device. As of now there is no way I would sign a 2 years contract for any LG device regardless of whatever type of options it comes with and there is no way I would pay full pop for one either. For anyone that is really interested in this device I would say wait a month or two and you will be able to get one on ebay for a couple hundred dollars. The LG optimus pro is a prime example, great hardware but no one wanted it which meant you could have found great bargains on ebay, the same will happen with this device.
  20. Other than the temporary 3g outage this morning, 3g speeds has been very steady for me throughout the day and night for the last week and a half or so(at least for me anyway). Haven't really had too many drop calls either, can't wait to go back to atlanta in a few days.
  21. Well sprint did have a press event in Puerto Rico a couple months ago stating that the VI "should" be completed by June. Based on other information that sponsors had available at the time it was reasonably safe to assume that the VI would have lte in June or at least sometime over the summer especially since the VI had been upgraded to network vision(3g only) from in march. Now I personally been saying from the beginning of this thread that the VI will lag considerably behind Puerto Rico even though we are part of the same market. As of this moment, my service seems to have stabilized over the last week or so. I haven't experience any drop calls and data seems to be fairly consistent for me.
