  1. Yeah, I don't get samsung at all. All their tablets seem to be about the same from year to year and they still want to charge you a ridiculous price. Its the reason why I still use my original tab10.1, which I almost sold to get a nexus 10. Anyway, I think the next great phablet(note 3 or one max) will fit my smartphone and tablet needs. Oh and thanks for the article Josh.
  2. How many times have people tossed their phones around or drop it on all sorts of surfaces and nothing happens but that same person would be sitting at home and accidentally drop their phone a few feet onto the carpet and shatter the screen? If there is a crack somewhere then more than likely it was from an unlucky drop or bump. I have also seen screens get very fragile with a sudden and drastic change in temperature. If there is an actual scratch and not a crack then more than likely it was caused by sand/silica which be found virtually everywhere. My OG evo, evo 3d and evo lte all had minor scratches on the screen at some point but so far I don't have a single blemish on my one(watch I go outside and drop it in the parking lot, LOL).
  3. I'm not having any issues with google now.
  4. It's not weaker, its just by coincidence it happened to your one compared to previous models. The one uses the same gorilla glass 2 thats on the evo lte but IMO a lot of people give "gorilla glass" more credit than it really deserves. I am sure that 90% of all scratches on a smartphone screen are caused by sand/silica getting in contact with the screen and thats the one thing gorilla glass won't be able to protect against.
  5. I said a year ago that within two years htc will have to merge with someone if they plan on surviving much longer and as of now I still feel the same way. It would be nice if google can come in and buy them out which is unlikely but would be nice.
  6. I almost severed my finger about 2 and a half years ago, pretty gruesome scene at the time, LOL. Thanks for the reminder.
  7. Yeah, until I get you drunk and passed out then take you finger and unlock your phone, LOL.
  8. Oh come on, just root the thing already. With every phone I have owned I have always been addicted to flashing but honestly with the one I haven't found a need to flash as often if at all. The phone runs incredibly smooth as is and I rooted just a for a few things here and there.
  9. I would agree that a trackpad is more useful than a fingerprint scanner but when I look at a device this size, making it more usable for one handed use simply can't be a priority.
  10. It better not be a trackpad, in my opinion that would idiotic at best. It would be way more cumbersome to use versus just using a finger on the screen. If they want to compete with the s-pen, then they need to improve on what they had in the past with the flyer/evo view. Other people are saying its a fingerprint scanner, which I think will be gimmicky at best. The only logical guess I can come up with is some sort of infrared port, but for what? I am not sure.

  12. Your miles may very but basically yeah. Check out the thread over on xda, there are few that have issues and others that don't.
  13. Really? Don't confuse what you want(or like) to what is reasonable not to mention "heavy use" will vary from person to person. What would you consider to be a decent battery capacity for a phone? A Heavy user could be sending hundreds of emails and texts throughout the day, a heavy user could be streaming videos all day non stop or making several hours and hours worth of phone calls, another heavy user could be doing all of the above. Which one do you think will burn more battery? Your best option would be to replace the battery with the largest extended battery you could fine but the question is, would that ever be enough for you? Because I don't care who you are, unless you are using a car battery for an extended battery you won't able to get a day and half if you are truly a heavy user but again the definition of heavy use varies from user to user. You also have to consider all the different radios that these devices support and the fact that the quality of the signal will directly affect power consumption. We have to be realistic here, 10 years ago phones would last half the week but all we were doing was making calls and sending texts. Look at devices now, the typical flagship smartphone comes standard with a 1080p screen(your average pc/tv still has lower res screen) with a minimum of 2g's of ram and a minimum of 4 cores for godsakes, there isn't much of anything we can't do with our smartphones today. We are using very small devices with the processing power of a pc, yet we complain about battery life? Name any other type of tech that runs on battery that will last a day and half with constant heavy use? Don't get me wrong, I would love my phone to last 2 days as well but at some point we have to realize that sacrifices has to be made somewhere. To be quite frank, with all the tech these oem's can cram in a tiny device I am surprised more of these things don't randomly explode.
  14. There is no exact answer to this question. I have seen my evo be able to use lte while connecting at -126db and other times it will drop off at -115 to-120. I can also say the same for my One and a gs4 that I had for a few days.
  15. For the sprint version of the One for example, there isn't an actual unlock code but they will unlock the device for you over the air through an update that they will push to the device. The only catch is that the device will have to be activated on your account for a minimum of 90 consecutive days and of course your account will have to be in good standing. A few weeks ago, someone over on xda figured out how to manually make the same change but you will have to be rooted to do so(not sure if rooted option works on the gs4).
  16. Of course it matters, user accessible sims means that it will be a world edition phone once you can get it unlocked through sprint or through other ways if you're rooted.
  17. Its not surprising when you think about it. I don't know about other smartphone users but how much time does your smartphone stay turned off? For me its never, so basically our phone's battery is always in use either getting charged or getting discharged.
  18. LOL, I was going to mention my evo in my last post but yeah, I sold my nexus and replaced it with my evo(not counting the 2 days with the gs4) so I can put the One on my main line. Honestly, I can definitely tell the difference between now and then. When I first got the evo my battery would last me from 7am when I got to my office to 6pm by the time I got home and with my personal usage I would still have about 40% remaining. Now over a year later I would say that by mid afternoon I have to put my phone back on the charger with similar usage or else by 6 my phone will be close to dead if not totally dead.
  19. Oh, I fully understand but it still has to do with what I said. Being that iOS is much more efficient, on average, you won't feel the effects as much as an android device with similar wear and tear.
  20. Well in defense of iOS, it is a very efficient operating system and to be honest you can't really compare it with android. No matter what, when it comes to "hours per mah of use", iOS kills android no matter the device.
  21. I was actually thinking the same thing, this would make for a pretty bad ass google edition device.
  22. What you believe does not represent what is. Personally I would also prefer removable batteries and sd card support but at the end of the day thats not why people buy gs4's. Now obviously there are people out there that specifically bought the gs4 because of it but those people represent a very extreme minority of overall gs4 users. Samsung's success can be directly related to how they market their product and thats a fact and if they continue to do so they will continue to break their own sales records whether or not their devices will have removable batteries and sd card slots. Even though samsung is the number one mobile device manufacturer the iphone 5 is still killing the gs4 in sales so obviously removable batteries and sd cards are not the issue. Apple was and still is the king of marketing and thats why they been so dominant, samsung have learned from apple's marketing success and have been extremely creative and aggressive on how they market their devices. How many advertisements have you seen on tv with samsung talking about how you can replace your battery and add an sd card? Now is it an advantage? Yes it is but is it worth talking about? No its not. Your average consumers want to see how this device can make their lives a lot easier by owning it, and you do that through showing cool features and ease of use.
